Inchoate, Vancouver has fantastic food. If you love Asian food (Chinese, Japanese, seafood...etc) then Vancouver is your town. Due to the large population of Asians, there's a plethora of asian eateries all over the city. Also, due to Vancouver's location and it's easy access to fresh seafood, the sushi is rated as the best in Canada (also the most affordable too).
However, Vancouver also has a high crime rate. My cousin was in Van two years ago, and he said that Chinatown is adjacent to the worst neighborhood in Vancouver and possibly all of Canada. Curious, he deliberately walked into it, thinking that he would be safe in broad daylight and with his two companions (his best friend and his girlfriend). Three blocks in, he realised that he had made a teribble mistake. The streets were deserted, the few cars there were - cops cars even - were zooming by at high speed, afraid of stopping for fear of being carjacked/attacked. Every person in the neighborhood was either a pimp, a prostitute, and/or a drug dealer or addict. My cousin quickly hightailed it back into Chinatown. He said if it was that bad during the day, he wondered how much worse it was at night. |
