Isn't "taste's bad to monsters" a classic D&D advantage?

Additionally, meme, a Teen Titans quote that has just become relevant:
"I'll have two large Mega-Meaty-Meat combos...and a diet soda."
"I'm sorry, we don't have soda. Just meat."
"Ok...I'll take a large meat juice."
"Coming right up, sir."

Then again, there was the later line:
"Beast Boy, you're, like, the only employee here. DOn't you think that's a bit...I don't know...weird?"
"Dude! Even the FRIES are made out of meat! What's NOT weird about this place?"

...meat...god I want food...so hungry...

I'm a huge fan of Ostrich meat, UUUMMMM delicious. Had some Wild Boar recently, which was delicious, slightly richer than beef.

MEAT MEAT MEAT

Wagyu beef is amazing. Marbled, rich, rare... to die for, honestly.

(And though they don't really fit, I've been SO into black and white pudding of late. Fabulous. Can't believe I didn't discover them earlier.)

black pudding sooo black, even the white bits are black!

ahh, michael palin. so funny. but so delicious! black pudding, crisped bacon rashers, mushrooms and a slice of rare fillet steak in pepper and tarragon. eggs scrambled and coffee black and strong. thick crusty toast and butter. what a start to the day a vegetarian never had!

no-one said anything about coconut meat yet. this too is delicious. does that make one a cocovore?

And they're like, it's better than yours
Damn right it's better than yours
I could teach you but I have to charge

I hear they have Roast Boar Feasts at Park Asterix in France- this plus Zeus' Thunderbolt, generally held by affecionados to be the best rollercoaster in the world- I'm there, dude.

I really want to try Beggar's Chicken, too, it's a Chinese recipe where they seal the chicken in clay and cook it on a slow flame ALL DAY. It's supposed to be so tender the meat just slides off the bone, and melts in your mouth...

I had wild boar sausages at Belgo Centraal in London last week. Nice stuff. Had wild boar ravioli before, with a nice port apple sauce its fantastic. Had wild venison sausages down in a place in Oxford, but found them a bit dry.

Had emu steaks once. Was good, a bit tough, but tasty.

Lord Morgue:

and white pudding (lamb's brains). Ooh yeah.

Isn't Irish white pudding black pudding with meal and barley?

What IS black pudding anyway? Its blood sausage, and its black. That is all I know. What else is in it? Presumably some other form of meat? Or is it just blood and stuffing?

Not Here Still
12:56 / 24.08.05
Thought it was congealed blood, with something added to help congealement such as fat or certain meats.

Scab sausage basically...

(Sorry to anyone eating it. And not meaning to suggest it's a strike-breaker either.)

Pretty much - you mix blood (usually pig's blood) with suet and/or some other form of fat or meat until it's thick enough to congeal to a solid. Barley and oatmeal to taste.

Incidentally, Morgue, white pudding doesn't involve brains - either the cooks were joking or tragically misinformed. It's black pudding without the blood - pork meat, fat, suet and a cereal base - barley, oatmeal, bread or similar.

Wasn't there someone here who thought that a white pudding was a vegetarian black pudding? I love the thought of someone deciding to make a vegetarian blood sausage.

When in Shetland I saw a chippy that had white pudding listed as vegetarian. I suspect up there anything that isn't 100% meat is classed as vegetarian.

Would it be vegan if I made black pudding with my own blood? Would the vegan police still get me? Cause I really like black pudding, especially with mango chutney.

You can make white pudding vegetarian - just use a different bnding agent (i.e. not suet or meat fat), and up the oats. Vegetarian haggis adopts a siimilar approach.

I can't believe I'm discussing cookery. I must be tired.

Veggie haggis is great but I've never seen veggie white or black pudding.

Blood veggie situation is a weird one though, guess it would be ok - how about those bio yogurts what's the official veggie standpoint on them?

Not the best meat but the only meat I know miss since being veggo is Pork Pies, no idea why something sometimes draws me towards them in the supermarket.

You can get veg 'pork' pies, in Holland and Barrett, I think? This is not a recommendation, merely an observation. But do report in if you try one.

I honestly don't know what the 'strict' view would be on bio yoghurt. I'd say it's akin to eating yeast - most people wouldn't worry, but some might be against it.

Loomis
14:24 / 24.08.05
What on earth is bio yoghurt? One of the best things about being vegan is not having to eat the silly stuff. Why would you want to replicate it?

Apologies for the pinko vegos taking over the meat thread ...

Get out! Keep your filthy vegetables to yourselves, this thread is about the joy of meat. Meat like chorizo, which I eat all the time, you can put it in sandwiches, omelettes & eat it in pasta sauces & stews. Fantastic.

Isn't white pudding then just...errr...sausage?

Ariadne
17:24 / 24.08.05
Well, I suppose it's a sliced sausage, technically.

Never had grapes with my white pudding, personally. Maybe that's the vegan bit.

Grapes go with a lot of sliced meats, especially in places like France and Italy. They also go well with cheeses. So if you're having a cold meat and cheese plate...grapes!

The really funny part was when I was served water crackers, brie, grapes, and pineapple on a flight to Japan. ...brie. I'd have expected...I don't know. Tofu snacks? That's Air Canada for you. Mind that the other two meals were quite good. Business class does surprisingly good unagi donburi.

speaking of scrap meats, locally we have something called scrapple. my mom grew up eating it with a fair dousing of king syrup; I like mine cooked and served plain. many people are extremely grossed out by the stuff, especially non-locals, but most local people have eaten it at some point, particularly those with a poor childhood. the cornmeal gives it a texture that I particularly enjoy.

So...scrapple is basically meat loaf made from pork instead of beef, right? Not sure what the big deal there is. Seems normal enough.

bitchiekittie
20:45 / 24.08.05
scrapple is made from the typically undesirable scrap parts (usually pork, though it sometimes includes beef bits), mixed with filler to make a fairly dense loaf. you usually buy it prepackaged, like a pack of sausage or bacon, both of which are usually served as a breakfast side, like you would with scrapple.

whereas meatloaf (or at least, the kind with which I'm familiar) is made from ground beef - actual meat rather than castoffs - and also often mixed with filler (usually bread) to make a loose, loaf shaped patty. it's more of a loaf shaped hamburger! and you can't normally buy that packaged, except maybe in the frozen foods section (ick).

I'm sorry if I'm overexplaining, but I don't know how big the culinary differences are in the uk vs the us.

i was in New York a few days ago, and i think i may have had the most scrumptious dead animal part appetizer i've ever had in my life.

the Steak Martini.

a largish martini glass, full of thin strips of tender flank steak soaking in a vodka and vermouth cream sauce with bleu cheese.

i almost fell over.

Chipped beef! That's something I've never tried.
I've got this trick of using a hypodermic syringe to jack up a leg of lamb with pineapple juice overnight before I cook it- the pineapple juice is a fair match for human digestive fluid, what with the acid and enzymes, and predigests the meat, tenderising and flavouring it. Fruit cannery workers get these rashes from working with pineapple all day, because the enzymes are slowly digesting them! Cut some slits and push some garlic cloves down to the bone, cook that mother and bammo- that's some good dead baby sheep.

Black pudding with mango chutney. That's so kinky I have to try it.

The all-night cafe in Brighton did a wicked black pudding and fried egg sandwich, naughty and greasy and just the thing after a night on the town.

Talking of greasy, post-pub, meat products. Kebabs. Satanic things generally. But Don-a-chile in Ashford, Surrey, did a doner kebab that I willingly ate sober. Homemade chilli sauce that was heaven to the tastebuds.

Dammit, I'm making goulash this weekend.

Actually, this thread comes as something of a relief, because I thought Barbelith was a big vegetarian conspiracy founded by people who'd read (and likely owned) Animal Man and that issue of Swamp Thing, you know the one, with all the cute anthropomorphised animals, when they were idealistic enough that it'd made a difference.

Phew. I eat meat all the time. It's kind've disgusting how much meat I eat, probably. The best meat I ever had was a pepper steak in an Argentinian restaurant in Bielefeld.

Reading the story about the space ship "Find a New Lady" always gets me teary eyed...and I LIKE Animal Man. But at the same time, I also like all those issues of Batman where Bruce sits down to a big dinner of roast beef, or steak, or turkey. All lovingly preprared for butler-spy-master chef Alfred Pennyworth.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned baby back ribs. Mmm...ribs. I like mine marinated in a brine solution of water, vinegar, and liquid smoke. Then roasted in the oven just till done. After that it's to the grill, where they're barbequed to perfection on open flames, and then drenched in sweet'n' tangy spicy barbeque sauce. Oh, so good!
