Congratulations to you all, and (non-procreating Auntie type here) try not to worry about the jaundice/breastfeeding thing, my sister had similar things and it just took a while to get them going. They're no growing like weeds. (she says this is really really common.)

And the jaundice will sort itself out. I had infantile jaundice too and I've been as healthy as a horse for near half a century since.

As I'm sure you know, it's as common as bums. Just this afternoon I was speaking to a new mum who's baby was jaundiced at birth.

I was jaundiced as well.

re it's as common as bums

... absolutely, as my startlingly active and healthy whirlwind of a boy, who also had jaundice, would testify if he could stand still long enough

ps huge congratulations

re if he could stand still long enough

... and, as if on cue, he just paused to say barbelith!

... by the way, the missus just informed me that jaundice is also apparently particularly common in breast-fed babies ...

I have a bum. They're common as jaundice, which I had as well.

Congratulations on the newborn. It's a bloody everday miracle!

Are all babies born with jaundice and more importantly what is it? I'm sure I had it TWICE!

It makes you yellow, I found a page about baby jaundice.

And I see I mistook the name of this glorious Barbelette. Amaya is an even better name than Amida. And has more vowels, which is always good. Particularly if she ever appears on Countdown.

More vowels? Where?

My whole family is y--

--wait no, this isn't jaundice.

Congrats, cute baby!

Depends upon your definition of vowel, I suppose, Ariadne. Clearly I ascribe vowelness promiscuously. Y seemed more vowelly than D. But, with neonates, the vowels are always out of control.

Well my mother said I seemed jaded at a rather young age, but....

Sorry, everyone. It can be quite difficult to get away from baby-watching (that sounds creepy...) at the moment.

Everything is starting to calm down, they're both back home and doing fine. Jaundice has cleared up nicely.

And Xoc is right, in school (remember I am a filthy American) we learned that the vowels are A,E,I,O,U and sometimes Y. That always freaked me out, surely something either is a vowel or it isn't?

Yes, it also looks like I'm turning out to be a fussy, concerned dad. Someone save my daughter!

Ah! You got to say "my daughter", you proud man, you.

Glad to hear everything's going well. Must be tough the first few weeks.

Congrats to all concerned and hope babby's doing good.

Also adding congrats, and hopes. To all three.

And y is definitely a vowel in Welsh, and sometimes in English.

Why is y sometimes a vowel and all that...
