Okay so far;

Have disc from Frownland (my original swapee) - really good, great fun, great mix of stuff (loving Chica Bonita and One Way Street especially). Sent Disc.

From Anna, got two discs, sadly haven't listened to them as much as I don't have track listing yet so haven't put them in my i-tunes yet, but the early spin throughs have made me smile, again great mix of stuff in there. Sent Disc.

Sent Meem disc (so hope you've got it?).

Have Lekvar's disc in my bag at the moment, ready to go.

Anyone else up for a swap?

I apologise for not posting tracklistings last week -- my laptop battery ran out. Oops. I figure I'll just post up links to them all here and you can figure them out for yourselves...

Volume One cover and label

Volume Two cover and label

Volume Three cover and label

Volume Four cover and label

Volume Five cover and label

Volume Six cover and label

and label

Hmm apparently I haven't uploaded the cover and label for Volume Eight yet. Not sure if sent that one to anybody, yet? But, in any case, I no longer have it on my hard drive so I'll have to dig out the disk I dumped a load of files onto this morning....

I haven't sent out CDs yet to some people who asked, because I'm waiting till I get another batch to send off at once, so if you want one, PM me!

How much am I loving these CDs, Anna?

Very, very much.

That California Uber Alles had me staring at the car stereo in combined horror and glee.

Anna you star! I can get them on the machine now, and will listen to them more and more and more.

puter still not burning CDs, have backup plan involving girlfriend's laptop, maybe. Anyone who wants one from me, just PM me if you haven't already, am making a list and checking it twice.

Have perfected the barbelithpopmix and am very happy with how I couldn't stop dancing in my seat as I roadtested it while finishing layout on a zine of mine. I'm inspired by anna's sending out two discs (I've only listened to one so far, vol. 6, i think, and it's aces) and am going to work on a barbelithweirdmix too.

soon, my pretties, soon.

ack, I forgot to dig out that disc of random image files to upload the cover to Vol.8. Did I even send that to anyone, anyway? If not then I won't bother about it...

I'm currently battling with fucked up printers to get artwork (of a sort) done for my second CD, and then two CDs with which I am wholly spiritually satisfied will be winging their way to all the people I owe them to.

I'd like to join in, provided people don't mind that a) I do not have cutting-edge taste and b) I can only do tapes, not CDs. Can understand if this is agin the spirit of the exercise though.

Kit-Kat, I'm up for a tape if you're up for a CD. Tapes is cool. I have no CD player in my car.

Anna, I got disk 8 from you. Am still enamoured with #6, but have given first couple of listens to #8 and is good also.

Recieved Benny the Ball Barbemix last night when I got in from work- I'm loving it.

a very cool mix of soul, funk, hip hop and vintage r n r.

Particularly loving... well all of it... i guess the Stevie Wonder track is pretty great- and one i didn't have.. The Beach Boys made me realise that i mostly listen to music on my computer but i have lots and lots of music on Vinyl that very rarely gets played anymore... I also loved the Sexual Healing/ High and Dry bootleg, Herbie Hancock, Dusty Springfield... all very good i'm a happy man!

Thank You Benny!

any more offers takers for comp CD's- sorry Kit Kat- i'd do a swap but i only have a CD player if you'd like a cd though PM me and i'll get one sent out- my cassette deck died a couple of months back- your post made me realise that i don't have a tape deck any more- i feel slightly sad about it too...

Um, did fridgemagnet ever get his from me?

I sent out Bambling's and PolytheneHarvey's yesterday. Tracklistings linked above, natch.

Spatula, where's my CD (and your address)?

And it's lovely, Anna. Flattered that you would make a bespoke mix for petit moi.

Have nailed the barbenuttymix now; puter goes to hospital this weekend, then mix CD ahoy. Or else I work out some way to get this all onto my girlfriend's laptop and it happens even sooner.

Glad y'all like.

grant and Rizla, ever since you both put cover versions of Thirteen on those CDs you sent me, that song has been haunting me in various places -- but never in the original version. I heard a half-decent version sung by a woman last night in Borders, though.

It's a helluva song, isn't it?

I thought it was an Evan Dando original until I picked up Big Star's first album last month..

Anyway - all my CDs are going in the post today. So be prepared.

Ooh, ooh, can I join in, even if I've swapped with lots of you chaps before and I can't remember exactly what I've sent you, so you might get the odd duplicate?

grant
16:56 / 27.05.05
Yes!
I know the ones I've been sending have had dupes on 'em, but they're thematic.

Sav! I've missed you! I'm totally up for swapping more CDs with you -- I still listen tons to the ones you sent me a couple of years ago (if you're desperate for tracklists so you don't make doubles, I could arrange something but it might take a while unless you know some way of exporting playlist information in iTunes without actually exporting the music files)

Actually, I ganked a few tracks off your CDs to put on the ones I made...

Rizla's Easter Everywhere one almost made me weep with joy at work.

I really need some 13th Floor Elevators of my own.

I'm working on Riz's 'Are You Subversive' at work right not, and it's a fookin' gem.

Riz - what's the quote on the start of the disc from? Sounds like Lili Taylor.

Highlights from the six times I've listened to it end-from-end:

Greetings (this is Uncle Sam) is a great antiwar doowop song, a genre I want to know more about.

The 'meow, meow meow meow... meeeow" chorsu of milky wimpshake makes it obscene that I'm sitting here typing instead of pogoing into the foyer. but that's life, I suppose.

Shonen Knife's daydream believer - how sincere do these girls sound? They always sound like they're really concentrating to get the words right.

Bonzo Dog Band - bigshot. An old favourite of mine, a jazz-noir-parody-spoken word work of genius

that's all i got so far. bless, riz. bless.

Oh, and have any of you swappers seen this? Our very own Mr Gene Parmesan Birdie is putting a callout for mixtapes to be featured in his minicomics.

Comics and mixtapes, together at last!

Rizla, it's funny that you should mention the Vaselines. Barbemix synchronicity would have it that the mix I made just after the one I sent, the "Oh, fuck. This is what I meant to send" tape, had "Son of a Gun" on it.

In fact, I think it's a lot more fun all around and will be sending it out shortly.

I am working on Anna's at the moment and 'twill be sent by the end of the week.

Anna:

" Sav! I've missed you!"

Dawww, I've missed you too.

"I'm totally up for swapping more CDs with you"

Hoorah! There's a PM in the post about that, but I forgot to say that if you *are* interested in the two discs I mention, I'll be glad to swap 'em for any of the discs you've done for this thread; they all look great.

"if you're desperate for tracklists so you don't make doubles, I could arrange something but it might take a while"

Don't worry, I know exactly which discs I sent you and what was on them, so no probs there.

"Actually, I ganked a few tracks off your CDs to put on the ones I made..."

Excellent, that makes me much chuffed. The last couple of comps I made were pretty much 80% Tracks From Other Peoples' Comps; I'm completely reliant on swapsies for good stuff these days.

Apologies to those I still owe CDs (grant, Benny, matsya, iconoplast). Have just come to the end of a period of extreme busyness, so should be able to complete them very, very soon...

I'm overjoyed to know people are enjoying my CDs. Thanks guys!

Greetings (this is Uncle Sam) is a great antiwar doowop song, a genre I want to know more about.

It's the opening track from a great compilation I found in the library called "A Soldiers Sad Story: Vietnam through the Eyes of Black America". It would be no lie to say that almost all the songs on it are that good, and there are some fine essays in the CD booklet - so probably the perfect place to find out more.

Rizla, it's funny that you should mention the Vaselines. Barbemix synchronicity would have it that the mix I made just after the one I sent, the "Oh, fuck. This is what I meant to send" tape, had "Son of a Gun" on it.

I'm making sure to listen to 'Son of a Gun' every single day at the moment - just to remind myself how good it is. An excercise I'd recommend to everyone.

A belated thanks for the CD by the way iconoplast - it's real good!
