Need any more? I'm up for this.

Okay, but I want to swap with more people. I want CDs from Grant, Rizla, Gypsy Lantern, Petey and Matsya, at the very least. (I mention these people cos I've either had a lot of pleasure from tapes/CDs we've swapped before, or cos I know they'll gimme a groovy mix of stuff I'm into.)

Am I being awkward? Well, stuff it, cos it was my idea in the first place, so nyah! :]

Maybe we could all initially swap CDs with the person we've been nominated to swap with, then that person could post about what is on the CD they got and what they liked about it, then anyone else who wants a copy can PM whoever made it and get one themselves?

It might avoid huge convoluted chains of CD swapping (that never quite seem to work...) if everyone does one initial swap, as outlined above, followed by a few request swaps. I mean, I know for a fact that I'll probably pass the CD I burn onto a few people I know IRL anyway, so it's just an extension of that really.

Right, so: PM sent to itsybitsyspidergod, Mixtape in the works.

However, I'm absolutely down to swap with other people.

So, once the CDs are done and sent and reactions are posted, we'll maybe have another round of mailings?

I too would be happy to spread my little Meem/memes further...

The way I've done it in Other Internet Places is that you get a list of everyone who wants to contribute, then at a certain date you assign everyone two other people to send them CDs, in such a way that everyone sends out two and everyone receives two. (In theory. In practice, people are a bit lazy.)

I'd like to participate in any case.

Anna, just PM me.

Matsya makes good tapes, too, yeah.
And Rizla is legend.

I'm gonna PM Petey now.

Well, I've just been PMing those I wish for to get swappin' with and devil take the hindmost. I reckon this thread isn't so much a proscriptive thing as an indication of those who are so inclined. So perhaps PM madness is the best way to proceed.

Grant, I'm working on a mix for ya already. Anyone else who wants a mix from me, just PM me your address and it's a done swappin' deal.

I'm in on this to a limited extent. Can think of people right off the bat who I'd like to trade with based on previous similar threads, even if that does slightly defeat the point. Will need to get a few things sorted my end before it happens to any great extent, but I'll PM the relevant peeps when I can get involved properly.

Yeah, I think one advantage to this is pairing off of people who HAVEN'T swapped wif each other before - those who have and are in touch with others they've committed swappage with can kind of look after themselves, right?

Yeah -- as I linked to in my first post on this thread, the offer for a swap is open to anyone who wants. Just PM me an address.

But I am married to Petey Shaftoe, by the authority of the Barbelith Music Forum.

Congratulations, Grant and Petey... In celebration of this happy day, I too hereby pledge to send a CD to each and every person who requests one. And, time permitting, they'll all be different.

So, I'll be PM-ing everyone else who says it's OK to, just as soon as I've honoured my commitment to Skellybones... (And stocked up on jiffy bags)

Wow - if nothing else, this whole project has really underscored just how cheaply and quickly one can get objects transported between countries.

That CD I sent out last week? Yeah, it's in Ireland, now.

Dunno - I'm just pleasantly surprised.

I got mine on Thursday. And I've already played it to death, and included tracks on it on other CDs I'ved compiled for non-Lithers. Yayness.

I still haven't heard from Petey. Sigh.

Am enjoying iconoplast, though -- the move from garage rock to hip hop to, what, alt.country? is pretty fun to think about. So far, I enjoy the first bit most.

grant's CDs arrived last night in a bundle of tabloid goodness. I'm still listening to the 'Spring' CD - with the weather all perfectly sunny and just faintly warm, these are just the songs to be driving around to.

I've been held up on this because my flatmate has been occupying my computer for the last two weeks doing freelance work... This should be done with after the weekend so I'll finish making my... very strange little CD.... and send it to all who ask/have asked for it.

Oooohhh! Got me some music today!

Okay, not happened to me, but has anyone done a swap and gotten some of their own songs back (the ones they sent I mean, not just something that you own)?

Mike Modular
00:17 / 22.04.05
No.

Well, I have two CDs now, and very fine they are too. Some lovely acoustic/electronica/grime from Skellybones and a genre-hopping mix from Anna that I've not had time to listen to properly yet...

Rizla gets his at ATP tomorrow and you overseas types will have to wait til I'm back before I can finish yours (this is what happens when you vow to make individual mixes, artwork and labels...)

I'm still up for more swaps, though. I've got the fever...

Benny asked: "Okay, not happened to me, but has anyone done a swap and gotten some of their own songs back (the ones they sent I mean, not just something that you own)?"

And my short answer is: yes, sort of.

Longer answer follows, along with a leetle critique of what I've received so far....

Benny the Ball's CD is full of a lot of familiar stuff (and a few surprises), but nothing I had on CD (which is the only format I can play at the moment), so it was good to get it (and that Beastie Boys track is one of my favourites, but the very same one that fucks up on my DVD, so I was delighted to get that one!)

I've kind of flicked through grant's two CDs but I keep stopping and repeating the tracks I really, really like, so I haven't played the others as much...

I like what I've heard of Bambling's CD so far -- you can't really go wrong with jangly 60s-style guitars, though the songs do start to all sound a bit alike when you can't understand the lyrics.

I'm half-wishing I'd sent Meem one of the other CDs from the one I did, based on what he sent me...

This swapping thing is proving verrrrrry interesting, actually. Even though there were no themes set, I have noticed that there are a number of groups or songs that I put on my CDs (which I put together before receiving anyone else's) that are also cropping up on other peoples' tracklists -- not the same songs by the same groups, but different songs by the same groups, or different versions of the same song. Is this some sort of weird Barbelith Hive Mind thing going across the ether or something? It's not been stuff from whatever the latest, Best Band In The World(tm) is at the moment, either, as you might expect, but old stuff. (In fact, I haven't had anything from whatever the latest, Best Band In The World(tm) is at the moment, which also comes as a bit of a surprise).

Things that have been coming up a bit:

* Two of the CDs I received had tracks by the Temptations, and I put a track by them on one of my CDs, and also a duet with the Supremes on another

* I've also had CDs with tracks from Elliott Smith, Dusty Springfield, Nada Surf, all of whom I put on my CDs.

* There have been tracks by Mouse on Mars, and tracks which aren't by the Fall that feature Mark E Smith, featured on my CDs and other peoples'.

* I put a Funki Porcini track on one of my CDs which appears to use a sample from one of the tracks on Meem's CD (which made me jump when I heard it, cos, of all the FP tracks I could have chosen...)

* There have been a couple of tracks about Jesus

* I put two cover versions on the CD I made for inconplast, which he put the originals of on my CD (purely coincidentally, mind you)

I was getting into this whole thing so much that I put together eight different tracklists -- some of them were made more or less with specific people in mind (V4 and V5 were made with grant and Rizla in mind, V7 with Benny in mind)...

I haven't sent out tracklistings with my CDs because I need drivers for my printer and I really didn't want to write out by hand the tracklistings for the amount of CDs I've been sending out at the moment! But I have designed covers for them all, which I'll post up on here at some point... (maybe even later today if people are desperate)

It's funny. I spent hours looking for Mark E. Smith covering "Now I Wanna Be Your Dog", then gave up and didn't put it on the CD.

Which is for the best, I suppose, if everyone else's CDs are Fall-laden.

(has anyone not gotten a CD from me who's supposed to? I lost track of who I sent them to and have this feeling I had one more trip to the post office to make...)

Not got mine yet, iconoplast, but I'm alowing for transatlantic postal delays and the fact that I've not sent yours yet... You, grant and BTB should all have a CD despatched within a week, all going to plan.

Just got a bright red package of seasonal joy from grant today, which has solved my bedtime music dilemma...
