Evening Alas. Whiskey sounds lovely in any amount.

A friend of mine made a standup bass out of plywood (body), a short chunk of railing (fretboard) and fishing line (strings). It was tuned using a wrench or a ratchet set and sounded 100% better than it had any right to.

Oh well. I think I am goint to take Alas' cue and go home and try to drink my lack of bass away.

'Night all.

I love the word luthier. What more could one want than to hear it whispered in one's ear while a double bassist gently weeps?

Luthier. (It's getting luthier in here, don't you think?)

I've just come home from watching Edward Ka-Spel.And he was fucking ACE. And the Dots (all of 'em) are playing tomorrow. And a friend of mine who I haven't seen in about five fucking years came down for it. And all was good.
I'm all happy. I'm also all drunk. I may sleep at any time. But hello all anyway!

Goodnight lekvar, don't let the bassbugs bite.

Alas, That's quite simply the most beautiful image I've had in a while. It's giving me a bit of an Edward Hopper vibe.

Anyway, top of my list now is a Double Bass and a plinth upon which to mount it between Hot Jazz Swing sessions.

Sooooo, how are you this evening? Take my mind from this Basslessness.

iamus
02:09 / 19.03.05
Ah, Stoatie..... but do you have a bass?

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
02:11 / 19.03.05
I can go "BBBRRR BRRR BBBRRRR" and hit things.

That wasn't really answering the question, was it?

Must sleep now. Or pass out. Whichever happens first.

iamus
02:19 / 19.03.05
Sorry alas, Stoatie just stole my "most beautiful image" prize with his hitting and his noises.

Whiskey, Double Bass and gentle weeping.

It's been working for me so far.

02:41 / 19.03.05

Night all.

Good night to you too Meludreen

Not so sure about this Amirillo song going round and around in my head, I know I like it and it's all in good cause etc., but some things can get too damn catchy and you just start humming or singing it, in your Mind, and then before you know it you're chatting in the rillo, and my sobriety waits for me

Present, Sir! Busy ripping my Sisters vinyl to mp3 and getting excited about the legit Who DVD I got today.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
22:51 / 21.03.05
Is that the new Who? I'm steadfastly NOT downloading it... it's meant to be watched on tea-time on a Saturday, and by George that's when I'll watch it!!!

Good show. I'm excused because I'm a filthy filthy journo whore and I'm allowed. Big dose of Dan Cruickshank as well tonight. Now I have itchy feet to see the cosmos as well as most of this planet. Shame I love comfy beds and safe water so much.

Evening Stoatie. What's news?

Bugger. Just lost my reply in SQL hell.

Just had fun explaining to our personnel manager that not only myself, but another sector head will both be going to the opera on the day we've just been urgently asked to come in for overtime prior to our company's big merger and therefore can't come in... honestly, some people are so uncultured.

Smoothly
23:58 / 21.03.05
And other people are soooo redundant come the merger.

"Sector", huh. That's new to me, but I'm so out of touch. [soto voce] Good gear though, yeah? Sweet with opera, you say?

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
00:07 / 22.03.05
Oh, the job's divided into different sectors depending on the news content the clients are after. Mine's all government-related clients.
I don't think there'll be redundancies- I'd be surprised if we didn't suddenyl take on a whole bunch of new staff, to be honest.

Ah, that was funny. She was all like "I don't suppose I could pay you extra to miss it? How long have you been waiting?" Put it this way- it's Gotterdammerung, and it's been over a year since Das Rheingold was on. We should have held out for an upgraded set of tickets a fortnight later, but I don't trust the company's ticket-buying abilities.

Detroit. 9:20. On the Night Shift.
Chad's here. Yo.

Smoothly
00:19 / 22.03.05
Oh, the head of a sector. I seee.

Gotterdammerung, eh. Can't say I'm a fan, but..... Jeeezus. I'm spirally into contrived comic misunderstanding hell. Not that it takes much of a spiral. If you ask me, the slightest attempt and your there. And they say *sarcasm* is the lowest form of wit.

You're right to stick to your guns, Stoat. Where's it on? Covent Garden? Forive me, but I'm so ignorant of opera I could probably work in your personnel department.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
00:21 / 22.03.05
It's English National Opera... quite a strange, modernist setting for the thing, but it's damn good. Or it has been so far, anyway.

Smoothly
00:31 / 22.03.05
Ahh, I know the ENO - the Coliseum? I love that building. I hear that it's amazing inside (having spent £42m of lottery money on it, and i can't help but wonder how many of the people who financed it will actually see it). A masterpiece of structural engineering, I believe. Years ahead of its time. Self-supporting gallaries, or something; no pillars or whatnot...

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
00:32 / 22.03.05
Yeah, 'tis nice... don't get the really cheap seats, though... they're bloody uncomfortable, and opera does have a tendency to go on for a while...

So Sally was the secret party? Tres controvercial.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
00:49 / 22.03.05
No, I don't think she was...

Aertho
00:50 / 22.03.05
Nevermind. I read the hot thread. All caught up.

It's all gone very quiet...

Bonjour la gang!!!

Im back from my 3 week trip to beeeeyootiful British Columbia. Vancouver...wow... a city that feels haunted by the ghost of itself. I loved every second and want to move there as soon as posible.

How's my fellow Lateshifters doing on this fine night?

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
03:31 / 22.03.05
I'm good, anyway... happy because we've managed to unlock the great £50 thread, which I'm guessing you've missed out on the joys of thus far...

04:13 / 22.03.05
Mmmm mmmm Mimosa made with cheap pink champagne and eating tiny marshmallows. I've discovered in the past month that I really rather enjoy drinking.
