Definitely the best cover so far.
Does anyone see this series ending any way but badly for We3? We know that they're going to die if they don't get their medicine, so it seems like the best-case scenario is that they get to die free, on their own terms, instead of being hunted and shredded by that (really disturbing) mastiff biorg.
I hadn't bought anything but trades for five years, because I don't like the monthly pamphlet format (chock full of jarring ads- didn't they put all the ads in the back of the book for a while? What happened to that?), but I broke my self-imposed boycott for Grant's new stuff yesterday. I picked up JLA: Classified 1, We3 1 & 2 and all three Seaguys. I just couldn't wait any longer. I suffered through interminable waits for The Invisible Kingdom and The Filth, but I just couldn't take it anymore.
Seaguy, incidentally, is the best comic I've read since the Invisibles. I love the innovative art and design of We3, and the whimsy of Classified, but Seaguy was absolute top-notch comics. Kudos to Cameron and Grant. I've found it difficult to become emotionally invested in We3, although I have the utmost respect for the technical aspects of it. I really felt for Seaguy and Chubby, whereas I can't help but feel a little detached from Pirate, Bandit and especially Tinker, as I'm not a cat person at all. I'm not sure why this is, as the execution of the book is nothing but brilliant, and I feel like I should care about them more than I do. Strange, really, as I'm kind of a big softie. |
