I think it already HAS happened to an extent. This is probably comes down to what Haus refers to as differing levels of sensitivity especially in the arena of 'stupidity', which I would prefer to characterise as a lack of intellectual rigour or rigorous thought.
Barbelith has traditionally been a home to debate constituted of above average levels of intellectual rigour. Unless we all remain vigilant in maintaining high levels of intellectual rigour while composing our posts that 'above average' status will continue to slide. Again, as Haus alludes to, your assessment of what constitutes 'above average levels of intellectual rigour', may vary from mine, or that of other Barbelith posters. Perhaps the best solution is if we all attempt to spend more time thinking before posting - particularly in interpreting what other posters could mean before firing over-hasty replies. |
