Come again?

You know the story, a character meets a drunk Santa Claus fella and helps them out and then it turns out in the end that it was the real Santa Claus all along.

In this case Clark is helping Chloe deliver gifts around the city where he comes upon "Santa" on the roof of building about to jump, blah blah the spirit of Christmas has been lost, blah blah Clarke tells him what he's doing with regards to the gifts.. Santa falls off Clark catches him... end of the episode Santa appears at the planet and tells Chloe he wants to help with the room full of gifts, she turns around, turns back and all the gifts and jolly dude are gone.. Christmas magic for all!

The other thread in the episode was better with Clark being shown by the ghost of his Mother what the future would be like if he changed his ways (rattle of chains) - all happy, buying Christmas trees and going to party and Clarks house (who's now been promoted to reporter at the Planet) Pa Kent is all suited and slick backed hair Governor...

How about the Dukes of Hazard reunion a few weeks back, they should make it the Smallville/Dukes show, so many possibilities.

Cyborg's ep is coming up soon (Lex makes him into a Cyborg), and for those who have called for the appearance in full force of ZOD (the excerpt from Smallville fan site Kryptonsite):

>> James Marsters returns in this episode [three ep's after the 100th ep. in which a cast member DIES!!!] as Prof. Milton Fine/Brainiac. He'll be seeking out Lex's help in freeing Zod from the Phantom Zone, and he'll use Lex's fascination with the spaceship as a way to do it.

Whoa Nelly.

That was a suprisingly well put together episode, even if it did have time travel, easily one of my most hated plot devices. However, an interesting take on Donner's Superman climax.

For the first time ever, the Lana/Clark stuff actually affected me emotionally while watching it. Going into it, I had an idea about what the real death would be in the end given Supes history, but the end of the first half of really bummed me out. I was sort of taken aback.

I agree - I tuned into this for the first time in months; and man, it was a very well-done episode. Tight script, dense with quality, very strong acting all around (even from Lana!) and the characters moved forward in dramatic ways.

Everyone loves the Donner Superman films...and man, it was sad when they killed THE LEAD CHARACTER WHO THEY KILLED.

It was weird to hear the Peter Gabriel song "I Grieve" on a WB TV show...I picture all Gabriel's recent stuff being so 'indie' that no one would put it on a teen-marketed TV show. But they did, and it really worked.

I agree completely. It was like the quality was amped up throughout the entire episode, every scene. I don't know who the writers are who wrote it (2 were credited) but they were damn good.

The ep. also psyched us out nicely, at first I figured it would be THE CHARACTER WHO DIED IN THE END, then I figured "Oh, shit, it's actually going to Lana, and that works because she knows his secret and Lex will freak out!" and then it turned out to be the character who I thought in the first place. I figured it would be a bold move if Lana died in their version of the mythos.

news from Comics Continuum:

Season 5 of Smallville will end with another cliffhanger, executive producer Al Gough told The Continuum.

The show, coming off its 100th episode on Thursday, has ended each season with a cliffhanger.

Smallville hasn't officially been renewed yet, but figures to be back for a sixth season on the new merged network, The CW.

"If we have a cliffhanger and don't get picked up, it will be terribly frustrating," Gough said, laughing. "But we're going in with that assumption (of Season 6). That's our plan."

Asked about more DC Comics characters appearing on Smallville after Cyborg's appearance in February, Gough replied, "There may be someone in the season finale."

In other Smallville notes:

* James Marsters' Brainiac will return beginning in the season's 16th episode. "His nefarious plan to release Zod from the Phantom Zone has not seen its last day," Gough said.

* Dean Cain, who starred in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, still looms as a possible guest-star, Gough said.

"There have been a lot of rumors about him," Gough said. "We continue to talk to Dean. Again, we don't want to bring anybody on to the show until we can find the right role. We don't want to have them on just to have them on. Will it happen this season? I don't know, perhaps. It's something we're always talking about."

* Look for some synergy with the upcoming Superman Returns movie this spring, perhaps in the form of a preview like the Batman Begins preview with Season 4's finale. "I know the network is talking with the film side," Gough said. "If we can make it happen, that'd be great."

Glad you were as affected by this episode as I was. It's weird, but now I'm left wondering, a little sadly, what has become of the Clark and Lana relationship in the show...and it also now makes me a little sad knowing that Clark eventually ends up with Lois...who, let's face it, is kind of annoying on the show.

And, yeah, the Gabriel inclusion was inspired.

The only time I've ever seen Lois Lane come even close to working as a character (especially as a character I liked) was in All Star Superman (where, coincidentally, she looks a lot like Lana does in Smallville). Cleary its Clark and Lana who are meant to be together! Or Clark and Chloe. But not Lois!

The future with Clark dating Lois and Clark and Lex as enemies should be one of those horrible futures superheroes have to fix when having a time travel adventure.

As for the 100th episode that just came out. . .

SPOILERS!!!

SPOILERS!!!

SPOILERS!!!

It wasn't Chloe!!! WOOOOOOOO!!! I was possitive that it was going to be Chloe who died this episode. She's the only character not in the comics so I figured it had to be her, but it wasn't! Instead, they killed off Jonathan Kent, the true secret villain of the series. Maybe now Lex will have a chance at being saved.

Now?

The moment this episode staretd I knew I was going to have one of these
as I'd accidently read Keiths post about time travel and it was all too easy for Clark to get Lana this way.

Totally agree that the relationship came off better there than before, and I guess that's down to the actors having something new to do apart from lie to each other.

Surprisingly I didn't drop to my kness and scream to high heaven once the inevitable did happen.

I did cry like a girl however when THAT OTHER THING happened. The ending in the snow was perfect ...but I would have liked for Clark to keep hold of Lana's hand and take her to the Fortress.

I mean she finds out in the mythology and they can't keep coming up with reasons for him not to tell her.

I was screaming at the telly the last few episodes for him to tell her but I think I remember an interview with gough and millar saying that when their boy gets the girl the show is over, and so is the day job.

He should tell her this season, then we have whatever cliff hanger they've cooked up (ZOD?), and then we see why they break up over the course of next year (why do they break up?) and then....

...clark dons the specs.

Otherwise he may start leaping over tall sharks in a single bound.

Gotta be done

Whoaaaaaaa, what the fuck? Can you explain, I've watched up until an assassination attempt on Kent at a political rally, so maybe I missed some clues, but this sounds really weirdo.

Jack, I think: Jonathan is the driving wedge between Clark and Lex. Clark's suspicion of Lex and vice-versa is fuelled by Pa Kent's assertions (since the beginning of SV) that YOU CAN'T TRUST LEX, CLARRRKK.

If Jonathan were out the way then, perhaps, Clark could finally come out of the spandexcloset and tell Lex which, in turn, could finally let L drop all his suspicion and baggage and stop turning into a ruthless paranoid bastard. I'd argue that it's trying to crack the Cloak of Clark that's driven Lex to do some of the seedier things over the last couple of years.

Apparently the Aquaman series will be called MERCY REEF - the name of the reef where Aquaman's dad met the mermaid in the original Aquaman comics. (series to be created & run by the same people who do Smallville)

Anyone see the latest episode with Cyborg?

I really enjoyed it, Cyborg came off as a pretty cool guy and the team up sequences were quite well done.

From the last few episodes Lex has seemed confused or arrogant but in this episode he was a genuine baddy.I mean sometimes I feel for the guy, fumbling in the dark while all these wonderous things happened around him, but not after this show.

He did try and rationalize his behaviour with Clark , but I'm not buying it anymore. He's done.

So what is the story with Lionel now?
I had thought that he was completetly over his Jor-el possesion based upon his recent behaviour and scenes with Lex, but it seems like its not quite that clear cut.

And I hope to god all the discussion about cyborg and his secret and his girlfriend has some bloody impact on Clark.

Smallville has been renewed for a 6th season; while the much-buzzed MERCY REEF Aquaman series has been pulled, apparently. They filmed a pilot for it and Lou Diamond Philips and Ving Rhames were set for regular roles.
