Yes, but you do live in the Barbelith managed accomodation facility.

(no, it's not a 'home' as such...)

They do try to leave, but we feel it's better that they stay in an environment that's tailored to their indvidual needs.

I just checked: about 3.000 members don´t have more than one single post. I´ve seen this phenomenon on other sites, too. Why bother registering, when you never post anything? You can lurk without being a member.

Does Tom ever do a purge, and delete all the non-posting members?

Stoatie, having claimed the top spot from grant a year ago, has lengthened his lead to 3,300 posts ahead of the next contender.

I should never have introduced him to the sacred mysteries of Big Brother...

Only for those we nominate.

(Has anyone worked out Flyboy's not really in a girlband?)

He'll have a record deal waiting for him though, whenever he leaves. If he doesn't get dazzled by the bright lights, the party scene...

Correct me if I am wrong but there was a stretch of time, over a year ago i think, where you could not actually lurk without signing up.

I guess it's just nice to be able to put AKA GhoulMaster666 and have it be technically true.

Do we mean the same by lurking? I meant, reading on boards, getting to know all the inside stuff/jokes, without ever feeling the need to post (and so not applicating to become a member). Do you see it only as lurking, if they already are registered?

Hmmm, am I the only person that thinks having 14766 posts to your name is probably not that great an achievement? To put it in perspective, Stoatie would have had to have made an average of 8 posts a day, every day for the last 5 or so years. Crikey. At an average of 10 mins per post, he's spent around 146,000 minutes posting here. Thats around 2433 hours!

What else could you do in that time? How do you find time for life, and talking to people that aren't words on a screen?

In the future, respect will be based on post-counts. Shut-ins will become the most respected and widely heard people on the planet.

Maybe.

I seem to have settled into a groove at #100. I think I will try to keep my slight, but regular contribution to Barbelith at exact the same level so I can stay at this nice round number.

On the Barbelith posting leagues I'm squarely lodged between the unlikely pairing (although perhaps not as they are both 'stralians) of Lord Morgue and The Fool.

I'm between you two at #97. This is my 1456th post.

Most of them have been worth about this much, content-wise.

Perhaps I should get a life.

The horror! Two friends of mine are addicted to wow, and want me to start this game, too. They live out their helper complex, running around healing people. So far, I could stay away from that stuff.

And since I´m spending too much time at my computer, I felt a bit worried, when I saw yesterday, that I´m already close to my 1.000th post.

Stoatie - there'll always be the night shifts for you to keep the posts up.

Max of 50 a day remember folks, so get posting!

What I meant was that there was a time where you could not read the forums without being a member. This was when membership was closed and there was a battle with some other board iirc.

I didn´t know that. I know sites like these. But they are pretty small and private (max 100 members).

Did we win the battle? Did we pop-and-lock and do "the worm" or was it the kind where we met in a parking lot with chains and switchblades and did synchronized dances of intimidation?

If I hadn't met the man myself I would truly believe he was some kind of AI resident in the board's code, like an avuncular version of Daedalus from Deus Ex.
