are we ever going to get a press release on HOW they did this retcon? I believe i read on some other posts that Magneto was entirely under the control of Sublime during his role as Xorn. Once Magneto killed Jean, Charles rewrote the scenario in everyone's heads to hide Magneto from everyone...

f someone DOES get the whole story, please share.

The "whole story" happens in Planet X. If you want to believe this later undoing of a storyline because Marvel can't have Magneto dead for more than a minute then you have to read the story as it unfolds in the pages of X-man at the moment.
I prefer to think the MU folded in on itself as Sott kisses Emma. I hate being a GM-purist in this but there really is nothing of worth since he left. Just confusion and retcon after retcon.

I'm assuming that they DID liberate the original Xorn. Sublime WAS doublecrossed and surprised. After the X-Men left Xorn in China to recuperate, he was recaptured by Weapon Plus operatives and had his memories and scent and "sound" copied for use as a disguise for Magneto, Sublime's ultimate weapon. Magneto was informed by Weapon Plus that Xorn is a purely fictional character. I'm assuming that might be the editorial loophole.

NO.

Am I the only person who's excited that Xorn's back (and worried that he's going to become a villan)?

Also, bad as it is, the premise of this storyline (if not the execution) interests me far more than Wedon's. Bite me.

I agree with the sentiment that all the X-Men would snub Scott and Emma's relationship. I mean Jean was a friend, teacher, one of Xavier's star students, She has sacrificed her life 3 times in battle...I'm sure alot of the X-Men wouldn't like it. What I don't like is how they handled it. I must say the biggest downside of Astonishing X-Men #1 was how unnecessarily over-the-top it was. Especially since it's written by Joss Whedon, who loves understatement (look at the closing scenes of Angel's final episode). I mean Grant really went out of his way to have the older members of the group act like adults. Wolverine (who is the oldest out of all of them and should be the most mature at this point) handles everything with a level class that was plausible but never seen before in this comic. But Joss has him whipping out the claws in Emma and Scott's bedroom looking for a "tussle." Definitley a weak point for a series that I was looking forward too.

AUSTEN OFF X-BOOKS??

from today's Lying in the Gutters:

>> AUSTEN OUSTED?

Another story buzzing around Italy right now is that Chuck Austen is off "X-Men." Indeed, he left a month ago, but it has yet to be mentioned outside the company.

I hear he's handed in scripts up to issue to 170, but a new writer has already been chosen to continue after him.

Additionally, when Mark Millar asked about an X-plot point for his Wolverine series on the Millarworld board, he added "PS I'm not the new X-Men writer before anyone asks."

Yeah, and the rumor I heard is that he quit due to editoral changes. Seems he's pretty happy with the deals that DC has been giving him of late.

I just hope he isn't leaving due to his health. Might not like most of his writing, but I wouldn't wish his health probs on anyone.

Chad Well, maybe some editors had a problem with Xorn's Annual characterization versus his being Magneto throughout the New X-Men run. Xorn speaks only Chinese in the Annual, and exhibits real gravity and plasma powers. Later, when Cyclops retrieves him from the temple, Xorn exhibits strange new "healing" powers.

Matthew Fluxington I think it's perfectly reasonable and logical to establish that the Xorn from the annual was one guy, and that the Xorn that Scott recruits is Magneto in disguise. It's totally unconscionable to pretend that the Xorn from Imperial onward isn't Magneto.

I agree with the above. The only difficulty with what Chad seems to be implying is that if the Xorn in the Annual didn't have healing powers then Cyclops has no reason to go get him, he's going because he thinks he can use Xorn's healing powers to cure Cassie Nova's diseased body. If we're going to have a revelation that 'real' Xorn has a healing power just as Xorneto used his magnetic powers to simulate would be ludicrous. However, Austen has been forced to bring back a fictional character, so presumerably nothing is too insane.

Good point. D'oh!

In any case, next week there's a new Excalibur out, and THAT Magneto seems confused, Xavier seems confused, and the readers, again, are confused...

Xorn is on the cover of september X Men, as a part of the team, dressed in "oriental" garb

and considering that Magneto never died, but this all was Xavier's plan, (according to Excalibur 2), this might be the REAL (?) Xorn.

And the secret son of The Mandarin.

No, the Mandarin's kid showed up in Iron Man a couple of years back. I think the Yellow Claw is still available, tho.

It seems that Marvel might be having second thoughts about trashing the GM run. Greg Pak says he will be "exploring some untapped corners of the Grant Morrison run that are giving us a fantastic way to develop our characters and themes from surprising new angles." Apparently the Cuckoos will be returning.

"Wolverine's big emotional moments are going to come from an unexpected, new direction. I can't reveal too much -- but exploring the origins of three blonde telepaths is going to play a huge role."

I wonder if this means Pak is going to 'explain' the mistake in GM's last issue that linked them to the Weapon X program.

Mistake? Weren't there many posts right here on Barbelith, explaining and defending the inclusion of the Cuckoos? Vmemes and everything?

I dunno. I can't shake the feeling that Pak read Grant's NXM run, but didn't really think about it that much. Grant turned the Phoenix into a cosmic surgeon, leader of a Corps of similar entities, with all sorts of Kabalistic/yogic connections.

Pak brought her back as a confused, somewhat psychotic bodyhopper who just wanted to be loved. He even brought Quentin Quire back as a Phoenix wannabe, despite the fact that Grant clearly showed that he was ALREADY a Phoenix.
