I haven't watched it, shock, but I'll ask: six minutes? I assume this big copy got chopped up for TV and cinema ad spots?

Well, it was promotion for the launch of Prada's first foray into the world of perfume, so was intended as pretty spectacular, and the full version was kept for the initial cinema spots and then cut down. I believe the full version showed on TV twice and was then cut down to two 30s and a 1min version which went through reasonably lengthy rotation. The freedom given to production and direction was pretty extraordinary, but I believe Prada's aim was to have an ad that scores on the artistic front as well as the commercial one.

I ordered a CD today and got this response:

Your CD has been gently taken from our CD Baby shelves with
sterilized contamination-free gloves and placed onto a satin pillow.

A team of 50 employees inspected your CD and polished it to make sure
it was in the best possible condition before mailing.

Our packing specialist from Japan lit a candle and a hush fell over
the crowd as he put your CD into the finest gold-lined box that money
can buy.

We all had a wonderful celebration afterwards and the whole party
marched down the street to the post office where the entire town of
Portland waved "Bon Voyage!" to your package, on its way to you, in
our private CD Baby jet on this day, Saturday, July 14th.

I hope you had a wonderful time shopping at CD Baby. We sure did.
Your picture is on our wall as "Customer of the Year." We're all
exhausted but can't wait for you to come back to CDBABY.COM!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Sigh...

They make some great ads, Clarks - does anyone shop there?

I feel you have tunnelled straight to the heart of the problem.

Anyone got a Sony Bravia, by the way?

Just now overheard an advert for a pregnancy test.

"the most advanced piece of technology you will ever pee on"

Or similar.

While I, as an anarcho-capitalist (and it is not fundamentally flawed as an idea! The free market does not necessarily tend towards oligopoly! It just ... it just doesn't! I'll kill anyone who says otherwise!) applaud the idea of board members setting up their own companies, this does seem a bit blatant, Mist, all the same.

The Nutrigrain ads with a disturbed man obsessed with baking posing as a doctor are, to me, absolutely hilarious, if missing an opportunity to go so much darker with the central idea. Oh well, they're only trying to shift crappy breakfast substitutes after all...

The Golf 'Enjoy the Everyday' ad. A simple idea, done well.
