The worst fucking set ever (or why Brighton really isn't as cool as it thinks it is)

One of the grimmest moments of my life was having sex to a soundtrack of iTunes on random play and having Merzbow come on at ear-bleeding volume around 20 minutes in. Killed it stone dead.

My grim time involved recieving particularly toothy felatio whilst that shitty band that did that "Down By The Sea" track played on repeat. God, what're they called? Really chilled beatzzzzz with female vocals. A name like Moloko but not. Gah! Hate them. It's what all those generic DJs go home and listen to for a right good old chill out whilst they engage themselves in Tru Thoughtz which in turn lead to Knowledge Of Self. Someone remember their name so that I may more efficiently direct my hatred.

i believe the abomination you refer to, are the hate-worthy, coffe-table dwelling, purveyors of 'chill-out', 'post-club', trip-hip, Morcheeba. ew.

but for fuck sake! someone further up the thread said "i think this thread is becoming a bit silly", well dont take it so fuckin seriously. if you dont like what they are playing, go somewhere else. no-ones forcing you to drink at Po-Na-Na. There are clubs that play what i imagine you would call good music (and isnt it all subjective anyway?), and like someone else said, you can always start your own club or whatever. it really isnt that hard. the fact that every twat with a J5 record has already done it proves that much.
And anyway, dont you think the very people you are criticising, would say "this is getting silly"?

But I don't care what they say.

Neeeeeugh!

And if you look upthread, the whole thing began with a biiiig moan about the general state of bars in Brighton. It's hard to find anywhere down here(abouts) that isn't all about the breakzzz. Oh, and if you look all over this thread, it's fucking teeming with posters who either run or are affiliated with people who run nights.

Anyway, it's good having a moan.....

Have to say, Riot, that most of the criticisms you are levelling have been answered upthread. Look, it's not like anyone's crying into their pints everytime they go to a pub in the Bright Town, it's just that most of us can't stand the po-faced seriousness and lack of imagination that go into most of these sets. Sets which, as has already been explained, are a little too common, and pretty much unavoidable on a saturday night. To go over old ground, sure we could all go to different bars but that misses the point that life is a messy process that often forces us to go to venues which in an ideal world we would rather not attend.

As for subjectivity, and Phat Beatz aside, this thread is only marginally about musical taste, rather it has more to do with the savage disempowerment of what many of us would once have called good music. Music that, through over playing, has become piss boring and little more than Zell decor.

alright Bobossboy, i take yr point, and im totally with ya, but i think its the same pretty much anywhere ya go, whether its london, brighton or eastbourne the majority of pubs bars and clubs are gonna cater for mainstream tastes and thats never gonna change. and besides, how shit would it be if they did start playing the stuff you loved endlessly to the point where you hated it?
but please understand i am just as sick of it as you, which is why people like myself and other people do run our own nites.

I don't mind that. I mind the po-faced earnestness that accompanies Brighton's mainstream taste. The idea that "this ssssstuff is reeeeeally freeeeessssssshhhhhhh" infuriates like nothing else.
