Sarah Polley - yes, surprisingly attractive... but the only thing that puts me off is that I first remember her as Ramona, and it's just not quite right after that. Gorgeous, though.

this thread is getting soooo mainstream.

I'm disappointed.

Surely we can find a few more freakish deviant crazy looking people to fancy.

Americans of my generation will admit to this, if they are wise and sensitive sorts.

Amy Carter.

Chelsea Clinton has a similar something, but seems so much less... Amy-like. She's not waifish or freckled, she's all-American. Chelsea could beat Amy at field hockey, but Amy would know better books to read.

Sigh.

Amy knew what it was like.

What it was like for the rest of us.

She still knows.

She still knows....

Amy Carter did not receive the same "media hands-off" treatment that the Clintons insisted upon for their daughter, Chelsea. The fact that Amy went to public school, her views on nuclear disarmament, and the time she was seen to be reading a book at the table during a state dinner were all subjects of media stories. (Some furor attended the "reading at the table" incident, which some saw as an affront to foreign guests.)

She was also arrested during the Reagan years for protesting against the CIA.

Riz, we are as one mind in this. Is Barbelith dyyyyyyyyyyyyying? Should it be put down? How has Jade resisted the temptation to post a picture of his own face? These are all pressing questions*.

But let us not dwell on bad hair and fake tans. Let us bask in the cold unforgiving stare of Vincent Katheiser:

"Punish!"

I [heart] androgeny.

*It's interesting to compare this thread to back when we had two threads divided by male/female objects of lust. That way had its problems (binary gender division; at least one arguably overzealous member of the board criticising the existence of the admittedly longer thread for female lust objects) but I do think it provided a kind of balance...

Credit where it's due: Xoc, not Saveloy, started the criticism ball rolling with his ill-advised slagging of Severus Snape.

Yes, bad me. I ought to be punished and I am just shortlisting for the the Punisher of my choice. Mea masturbatory culpa. I don’t think it was ill-advised slagging, really, just impolite. It is the fictional portrait of Snape that I find hard to inject any sex into. I do think Rickman brings a measure of sexual allure to the part in the films, however.

And, in an effort to redeem myself, and to curry favour with the several Severophiles, here he is in his finest and funniest role:

I find, to my alarm, that I actually prefer the greasy-haired Snapery to this Duran Duran bouffon.

Or, as he was in 1991 when I saw him foreshadowing the misery and menace of Snape in a Ninagawa production for the Edinburgh Festival of a Japanese tragedy: Tango at the End of Winter. Alan dies, in a highly stylised manner, amid the cherry blossom:

Rizla: Surely we can find a few more freakish deviant crazy looking people to fancy.

It doesn't get more Barbelith than this, does it? I was going to laugh but then I realized how sad this really was. And Flyboy: Go be someone else while there's still time.

*

And Flux, even though I appreciate good porn, Luana and Daniela couldn't be more distant from this area. I figured, if it's about fucking LUST we're talking here, they couldn't be more appropriate...

I see where Rizla and Flyboy are coming from, because acres of perfect flesh, arranged just so, just doesn't do much for me a lot of the time. But, that's just me - and that's the whole point - we're all bloody different, folks - get over it. Equally I don't personally think self-harm per se can ever be sexy in another human being (scars are sexy, and I like blood, but, as far as self-harm goes, it could never do anything but make me sad). As an aside, I'd be fascinated to know if the cuts are real, however - partially because I'm amazed he didn't slice the vein near the crook of his arm, but mostly because it's fascinating that a magazine would put something like that in. Real or not, it's fascinating, actually.

But, anyway, my point is, I don't think anyone can deny anyone else the right to find whoever attractive - and, blood and fake tits, it's all within the remit of the thread.

I'm not sure if there's much point in ridiculing other people's choices... but if you feel like a battle...

btw, Xoc - consider favour entirely curried, and yourself forgiven. Everyone, look at lovely lovely Alan Rickman. Just look!

And now, as Snape:

Cholister, IIRC (and Iconoplast might correct me here), Edwards was asked in an interview if he was 'for real'. His response was to carve '4 REAL' into his arm with a razor blade. So yeah, supposedly, they're for real.

Alas poor Richey!

4 REAL
4 sure
but just not
4 long...

Hunted high and low for him at Anjuna market, where 'tis rumoured he fetched up, but to no avail. Sad to say, he barely registered on my radar, lurking exsanguinatedly in a corner, whenever lovely lovely & thrice lovely James Dean Bradfield was in the picture:

Ja, was ze hat gesagt.

Between the eyes and the blood, I have to say - when I was all gothy and angsty, I didn't know if I wanted to find him or be him.

Anyway. To balance out the thread...

Mmmm, Elodie.

I tried to find a shot of Robin Tunney as she appeared in Empire Records, but alas, my web-fu is weak. She, however, deserves her place on this list for that role alone.

They are most definitely real - the journalist in question was Steve Lamacq, and that picture was taken for the NME in, oooh, I forget, but 1991/2 I think. Lamacq had asked in an interview whether the Manics were 'for real', as Smoothly says, and after the gig Richey called him over, began to talk about something else entirely, and proceeded to cut himself as you can see. It wasn't spontaneous (I do not mean that this makes it any better or worse - simply that it wasn't a random act). The larger version includes the face of a horrified onlooker. Richey was taken to hospital but apparently insisted that everyone else in the casualty department was seen before him. You used to be able to buy a ghoulish seven-inch (produced by Fierce Panda or Rough Trade or someone like that, I think) which included a recording of the argument in the NME office over whether to publish the picture or not.

Richey's subsequent history of self-harm is well-documented. He was too little for me though (Nicky Wire's about the height I like, but unfortunately his lyrics are too bad for him to be lustworthy).

Don't think I lust after anyone famous really. I only like famous young men when they kiss each other.

Oh, Avon. Silly me.
