Marvel Boy II Not Happening

From this week's Lying in the Gutters:

"However, on the other hand, "Marvel Boy" II is not happening because Bill Jemas wants to change the script, and Grant Morrison doesn't."

Not good, as the first mini was excellent. Hopefully this won't carry over to New X-Men.

Well, seeing as how this was the only Marvel project I was looking forward to.....

I'm not surprised.

Jemas probably didn't cotton to the phrase "Cosmic Jihad."

Or he wanted Noh-Varr to be more hip and edgy. Y'know, like the kids these days.

or maybe he just read the Filth.
And wanted to make sure he understood what he publishes.
(ohhhhh, sorry for the syntax, it's not my main language...)

Not to say the Filth is obscura crapa, of course, not at all.

Morrison said he was done writing it, and Phil Winslade was going to draw it? Not coming out?

So what's the most organized, effective way to petition Marvel
to release it?

Uh, did anyone here save Spider Girl?

FUCK!!! Yet another instance of Jemas interference screwing things up.... (although I will give the new FF writer a chance, there's no excuse for this Marvel Boy crap.) I wonder if this will effect how long Morrison will write NEW X-MEN for Marvel? I know he's written far ahead already, but this might change his open-ended run on the title now, hm?

And yeah, I figure it might be the whole "Nov-Varr is a terrorist against humanity" thing that Jemas might have a problem with, partly understandably so. Marvel Boy's big 'eff you' to NYC doesn't seem so cool after Sept. 11th -- or at least it seems more chilling and less "cool widescreen action!!" I still love the Marvel Boy series, though.

Personally, after reading the first one, I thought that it should be handed out to everyone on the planet. Besides simply being insanely cool, the story said some hard things that no one really wants to hear at all, which is a good thing I think.
Of course, I still just want to see Nov-Varr take on the US military, but that's beside the point.

So can we swamp Jemas' office with postal cards say let Morrison do his "Marvel Boy?" I think that might work I mean once he sees that the money's there he'll just put a mature readers stamp on it and sell the damned things.

fuck fuck fuck, this comic was one of the things i was eagerly looking forward to not only cause because it's so slick and full of interesting idea's(my fav's the sentient corporation) but mainly cause i wanted to see how morrison would build a better world so to speak. Sort it out Jemas, i *have* to know where he's goin with this zen fascism thing.

Actually, I'm over there all the time. I could just show up there with some guys from my neighborhood, but only if you all promise to constantly refer to me as Barbelith's Baddest Motherfucker.

I wouldn't worry about it. Marvel will just hire a new writer.

Well, I'm actually kinda glad. I mean, it sucks for Grant, and I feel bad for him, but I never liked the Marvel Boy series very much at all, and I'd rather see Grant spend his time on other projects than dig that thing up again. Marvel Boy is pretty lame and uninteresting to me, and was really lacking in characters.

you'll find he's full of that. i was thinking about how much i wanted to see marvel boy in oz as was promised just last night. good old jemas, sending the pendulum of his 'nu' marvel approach swinging straight back in direct contradiction to where it was before.

Ah, Marvel Boy. I hated it when I first read it. Then I read it again on pot and thought: "Boy, that's marvellous!"

Lying In The Gutters is a gossip and rumour column, and that particular piece of news was marked yellow light, which means, to quote Rich, "...I think there's an element of truth". Plausible? Yes. Possible? Definitely. 100% guaranteed fact? No.

I think they'd get mixed up with the 'Please give Waid his job back on F4' and 'are you determined to destroy Marvel by dicking around with the titles all the time and stop creative people doing creative stuff?' cards.

Don't youall think it might just be better for Grant to repurpose his story idea to fit with his own characters rather than Marvel's property?

Me, I'm just hoping that he does something more along the lines of Kill Yr Boyfriend and St. Swithin's Day sometime soon. I'm very tired of the high concept Grant. I want character-based Grant!

Funny how NXM is his character book now, huh?

I'm still waiting to hear about the deep hard truths allegedly present in Marvel Boy, beyond Blowing Shit Up Is Cool, Controlling Dads Are Creepy, Young Love Is Unstoppable, and Corporations Are Bad, Mmmkay? .

Marvel Boy was Fun, Fun, Fun. It also had some great quotes such as the exchange: "Say something sexy in Kree" , "This area is no longer infected. You may proceed"

And who could forget "He's not taking my spaceship" and of course: "You repair the ship and I'll fix the planet my way!"

And all the trademark mad GM ideas: engines that run on pure belief (which is pretty unbelievable) and Hex - the living corporation. Wonderful stuff.

We need Marvel Boy II. You need Marvel Boy II. The world needs Marvel Boy II.

I want to make it clear that I bear Mr Jemas no ill will personally, and I don't care much what hijinx he gets up to at Marvel. I just did it for the title.

Qalyn, I'm tall and dark (haired) and sort of um, threatening -- I'm volunteering to go over with you (I live in NYC) and strike some fear into the hearts of men!! (i.e. Jemas)

Oh, and Bizunth, I hope you're right and this story is not 100% confirmed fact. Maybe there's still a fighting chance for MARVEL BOY II!! I'm sure the outrage and uproar on this message board is mirrored by Morrison fans everywhere upon reading that bit.

MARVEL BOY 2 was supposedly "in the works" but Grant [I just love it how we almost never say "Morrison" here] has never been too oustopken about a company fucking him up until he *leaves* it.

so, as fanboy-ishy as it sounds, a non-offensive campaign may do only good to it. I hope.

Tamayyurt
17:29 / 24.06.03
That's right, you're one Bad Motherfucker!

Vortex, any suggestions for a non-offensive campaign?
