Thanks for the link to the Travel Ephemera! The posters for the USSR are kind of scary, but everything is absolutely gorgeous!!

iconoplast, I love you and want your children. Those are fantastic.

Right, as we're aware Granton has now become a Mafia town, so as soon as the Mafia's dock workers have finished loading their supplies and welding the keel back on, we can leave. I'll issue the PMs in a few hours and start the new post at 6pm GMT.

To recap, we have 2 Mafia, 10 passengers/crew (whichever takes your fancy), 2 detectives, and 1 Fink (who, for the purposes of the role, will be someobdy who has been terribly wronged and is seeking vengeance against the detectives).

To simplify the whole day night cycle, it will be split according to the week, with Monday to Friday being day, and the Weekend being night, which should give people more than enough time to get their posts/votes in. Anyone who fails to submit a vote by 6am on any Monday will be removed painfully - but humourlessly - from the ship. the lynching results post will go up at roughly midday on each Monday, which will signify the start of a new game day.

So, when are we good to go?

I am seriously looking forward to this (as long as I don't get lynched on the first day like poor Doc Flyboy and Tez himself)...

Iconoplast, thank you for my label. I shall treasure it. Although you seem to have put "Substandard" when you clearly meant "First Class".

Tez, you should probably clear up which 6am you're referring to - US, UK or Barbetime (GMT plus 1 hour I think)

We'll keep it to Barebtime to avoid confusion. The main game thread will go up at 6pm Barbetime (so 5pm UK time) today.

Cap'n, I think I detected a little confusion amongst the ship's passengers about the day/night division. I understand it perfectly, of course, but would you care to explain it to them a little further? You say that week=day and weekend=night, but doesn't that mean we must vote for lynching before midnight this friday, rather than by monday? Or hasn't the day actually begun yet?

This week is the first cycle, although I appreciate some confusion may well have been caused because the game started on a Wednesday (i.e. halfway through the day period). Day this week, as with all subsequent weeks, finishes at 6am Barbetime on Saturday (which gives people the chance to get those drunk Friday night votes in), with night finishing at 6am Barbetime on the following Monday.
Any person who doesn't get a vote in in time will be removed along with the selected lynching victim.

Me too, especially Flyboy's. "Up diddly up up" - like a 1920's Ned Flanders in a plane. Glorious.

Just a quick post regarding the voting timescales. It's now 23:35 GMT, with only one vote. This is largely because the game has been rather rushed so far, due to the Wednesday start, and there has barely been enough time for posters to make their introduction threads.
Would everyone rather we continued with the day until next Friday, at which point the votes for the end of day one are cast, with next weekend becoming the first night? We can therefore consider this week and weekend to be the introduction to the game before we start proper on Monday. Thoughts?

I'm willing to go this way. I'd like more time so that people can at least form some theories before they vote to lynch someone.

Agreed, as time and no personal computers mean I am reliant on certain days to really catch up on the gaming.

Be aware that the game starts very slow and then tends to accelerate as the population dwindles (barring strange hiccups based on “first voter/last voter” strategies).

Meaning, yeah, extra time good - but a week might be too long for a Day about halfway through the game.

I agree with extending the day. Hold up the sun, I say, hold it up!

Could we not, then, void Flyboy's vote and let him re-cast it later? It seems a little unfair to penalise him for trying to keep to the rules.

Yeah, I'm for easing up at least a day or two. This is, after all, a tropical cruise, and we are lazily settling in. It would take awhile fo us to rouse ourselves out of our torpor and start entertaining suspicions of Chin^H^H^H^HItalianate machinations (and machinators). I, for one, would like a little lesiure to putter about with my experimental apparatus, gathered at no little expense, I might add--in order to test some intriguing modern theories. Thank you.

I may be a little biased but I wouldn't mind if flyboy got a re-vote. We don't need to have him as the one penalized for following the old rules.

Right, motion carried. The first day now officially lasts up until 6am (Barbetime) on the morning of Saturday the 5th April. For simplicity, voting should be done on each Friday (that is, 6am Friday to 6am Saturday). Mafia, Detective and Fink queries then come in over the weekend, with the new day dawning when I post the results early Monday.

Our apologies for the slight hiccup to your cruising pleasure, ladies and gentlemen. The cabin-boy responsible has been sacked. Please enjoy the ship hospitality until late next week.

Can I just point out what a very bad idea the above timescales are? Already people have clearly lost interest over the weekend, as well as the Substandard having apparently sailed without a passenger in the shape of Lionheart, who hasn't yet even checked in. Not that there's anything we can do about that.

I would humbly submit to Captain Tez that the point of having deadlines should be to expedite the voting/killing process, not to draw it out over nine or ten days so that everybody gets bored and finds something else to do.

Why can't people be lynched as soon as all votes are cast? Don't make people (players or spectators) wait till Friday, for goodness' sake!

Yeah, and I'm not withdrawing/changing my vote. What kind of biped would I be if I did that, eh? I made the best choice I could given the information I had at the time - *somebody* had to start it, and at this early stage, *of course* we have very little to go on - and going by the end of the last game I see no point in starting to play the waiting game already.

Tezcatlipoca
12:50 / 31.03.03
Points taken. However, the game was initially - and still is - stated to finish each Saturday morning. Only one vote was in, and lynching on one vote alone doesn't really make for a fun game (quite aside from the fact that the deadline rule that ensures non-voters get killed would have resulted in me killing all but one of my players).

I considered extending it due to the late start, but didn't want to do anything the players were unhappy with, hence my throwing it open to general opinion a few posts ago. The response was overwhelmingly that extending just this first week was a good idea, so I have. I think interest will peak again once we hit the end of this week and things start moving again.

Just so everybody is clear, votes will have to be made before or on this Friday. Voter who havn't submitted by 6am (Barbetime) on Saturday get killed along with the lynchee and Mafia victim.
