Good chance I will be there, 80% i would say.

I can't believe I forgot to post anything about the
Psychic TV gig at The Hook last Friday.

Dammit all, I knew there was a thread I forgot to check before my trip to NY a few weeks back...

I too will likely be at MF Sunday night. I need to consult my wardrobe to see if anything leaps out at me as being in the circus theme, or at very least egregiously loud.

I was there, and Modlad was there. I kept my eye out for you, but I didn't spot you about. I was somewhat incognito, as I went with the circus theme, wearing an oversized red jacket, red shirt, black tie with red anarchy symbol, red Mickey Mouse suspenders, grey slacks and cap, red & black Docs, red nail polish and makeup that was somewhere between a carny and a clown. I had a picture snapped of me, but I've not been able to find it online.

I was there from about 12:30 until about 6 am. I was quite floppy from drink and dance when I made my way to the N. I felt kinda shitty the next day, not only because I was hungover but because I just about slept through my nephew's 5th birthday. (Before you think me a complete turd, I did see him the night before and gave him my presents then, anticipating my incapacitation, but still.)

Unless there's something fantastic at the next one I may skip Mofo until Halloween; all told I probably dropped no less than $50 between admission and drinks, money I need.

22...I seem to remember you and I dancing arm in arm at some point in the VERY early/late hours? Or was this mostly to keep one/both of us from collapsing from drink?

XXII:X:II = XXX
05:01 / 10.06.05
Yes, that sounds about right. I was delightfully schnockered, so much so that I had one of my rare hangovers all the next day. It's usually the only way I loosen up enough to dance unself-consciously.

I'm surprised no one's yet mentioned that this weekend is the 4th annual Museum of Comic & Cartoon Art (MoCCA) Festival at the Puck Building on Houston. Many of your favorite comics peoples, from industry stalwarts to hot young turks to unknowns sit shoulder to shoulder plying their wares and shooting the shit for two days. Admission is $7 for one day, $12 for both. Sat nite is supposed to be a party thrown by the House of 12 crew at a nearby establishment; be on the lookout for any promotional info. I really can't recommend MoCCA enough; it's a refreshing change of pace from your standard comicons, both the sad little affairs on the local level and the over the top sensory overloads made popular by San Diego and WizardWorld and their ilk. Further info, including exhibitor list, can be found on http://www.moccany.com. You have no business claiming to be a NY area comic reader if you're free and don't come down to see what's cooking.

(I'd been hoping to finish up a cute one-sheet item with a friend for the show, but mutual flakiness and inertia makes this highly improbable at this time.)

Need a roommate? Or for that matter, does anyone else? I am in nearly immediate risk of being evicted from my apt of 5 years, and need somewhere to go. If none of you have an opening, pls ask around and contact me either on here or via my listed email. Ideally I should probably live with a guy around my own age (29), but at this stage I'm not picky. Think of it as the ultimate Barbe-meet.

Well, I consider Motherfucker to be one of those things that is a non-verbal experience. One of those things that words don't do justice to. As well, I'm not sure anyone has ever gone besides me. I have a great time every time. I'd love to meet and hang out with some others from the list but since I never get a response it seems like there is nothing more to say. I will continue to inform the list of this (and other) events that I find enjoyable in the hopes that some day there will be a confluence of Barbelith energy.

I'm a-gwine to the Halloween Mofo. Of course, as it's a Monday this year, it may in fact be that previous weekend. I know you frown on Halloween events that take place on any day other than that e'en, Caleigh, but 'tis wot 'tis. This year I'm thinking of dressing as The Maxx. Seems simple enough.

As something of a change of pace from my usual Headquarters and Motherfucker notices, I wanted to alert everyone in town of a great experimental music double bill this coming Sunday at Mercury Lounge: Flaming Fire, the Talking Heads-ish art rock ensemble with a new angle on their signature sound and a stark sleaze look out of SIN CITY, and California's Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, who are somewhere between Throbbing Gristle and Mr. Bungle and just might be the illegitimate lovechildren of Captain Spaulding. All for a measly $10. Oh, and Barbez opens, who I know nothing about. That's this Sunday, Oct. 16, at 8 pm at Mercury Lounge (217 E Houston St b/t Ludlow & Essex St.).

The Flaming Fire/Sleepytime Gorilla Museum show Sunday night was fucking RIGHTEOUS. I haven't headbanged like that in quite some time. I may have sore neck muscles today, but as a tradeoff I may well have shook loose some cobwebs in my spine. If anyone made it out give a shout by PM to compare notes.

Here's another couple of events happening this coming weekend that I figure locals might be interested in.

FRIDAY - EVERYTHING YOU KNOW IS WRONG
The Disinformation Company Ltd Presents A Special Night of Mental Insurrection at the CUNY Graduate Center Friday, October 21, 2005, 7PM - 9PM

WHO SAYS THAT NOTHING AVANT GARDE HAPPENS IN NEW YORK ANYMORE?

On October 21, 2005, the CUNY Graduate Center turns over it's hallowed halls of higher learning to The Disinformation Company [disinfo.com] for a wild night of lecture, art and film with artist Paul Laffoley who will discuss his amazing occult and science fiction oriented paintings; notorious New York performance diva Kembra Pfahler (The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black) and "weird science" expert Duncan Laurie on plant communication and strange electronic medical and agricultural devices from the last century that were banned because of "how well they worked!"

Expect the unexpected! It's NOT a night for the entire family, perhaps, but for jaded New Yorkers looking for something truly strange to do on a Friday night, this is it!

This event features:

Supermodel, rock star, visual artist, producer, Kembra Pfahler is the spirit behind the notorious band The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black.

Painter Paul Loffoley has exhibited his amazing canvasses at museums the world over and has been the subject of two books, "Arcitechtonic Thought Forms" and "The Phenomenology of Revelation." He is represented by Kent Gallery.

Duncan Laurie has been a pivotal figure for years in the underground culture of "weird science' and the "forbidden science" of radionics. He has pioneered some extremely odd acoustical research into how plant life communicates and he is now working on his first book documenting his decades of experience with fringe science.

Richard Metzger is co-founder of Disinformation, the host of the Disinformation TV series that ran for two years on UK television and the author of two books, "Disinformation: The Interviews" and "Book of Lies." He is currently working on his third book, a guide to business from a magical point of view.

There's also supposed to be the second local launch party for GENERATION HEX on Oct. 27 at the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, but I'll let Boy In A Suitcase plug that if he so wishes. Oh, and if anyone cares, the Halloween Motherfucker is, as I understand it, Friday, Oct. 28 (sorry, Caleigh), tho I know not where. Kinda sucks for me, since I have a doctor's appointment at 10 am the next morning. (Is it frowned upon to show up at a doctor's appointment hungover or, worse yet, still fucked up? How much worse is it if I'm still in costume?)

So those of you who tried to make it Motherfucker Fri nite probably were met with the same sight I was: local fun police closed down Roxy before it ever got off the ground. They relocated to the Delancey, a far smaller venue which is probably a good mile or two away across town and an annoying subway ride to boot. Still, I made it there, and I had something of a good time, though nothing like that which would have been at Roxy. Fucking Bloomberg.

Now I'm looking for ideas for Halloween evening proper after the parade, be it party-like or some sort of magick working in observance of Samhain. I'll be the goof dressed as The Maxx. Who's got the ideas? Well, actually, I've got a few:

In Haddonfield, Ilinois, on Halloween night 1963, 6-year-old Michael Myers inexplicably slaughters his teenage sister. His psychiatrist Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence) can't penetrate Michael's psyche after years of institutionalization, but he knows that, when Myers escapes before Halloween in 1978, there is going to be hell to pay in Haddonfield. While Loomis heads to Haddonfield to alert police, Myers spots bookish teenager Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and follows her, constantly appearing and vanishing as Laurie and her looser friends Lynda (P.J. Soles) and Annie (Nancy Loomis) make their Halloween plans. By nightfall, the responsible Laurie is doing her own and Annie's babysitting jobs, while Annie and Lynda frolic in the parent-free house across the street. But Annie and Lynda are not answering the phone, and suspicious Laurie heads across the street to the darkened house to see what is going on ...

QUARTERSLOT's GIGS

Date: Saturday, November 12th
Place: Scenic (25 Ave B, btwn 2nd St & 3rd St) in Manhattan
Time: 10:00
Cost: $5.00
With: Kid Casanova during the infamous Rated X Panty Party

The Story of QUARTERSLOT and the Good Vibrations

A girl with long hair and longer legs walked into a cheap hotel and caught the house band letting loose with raunchy covers of The Doors, The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin. She bought the boys a round of drinks and invited them back to her room for a good time. For many hours they rollicked around on a vibrating bed until they were very sweaty and completely out of quarters. The girl took a shower and that’s when the boys first heard her sing. They burst into the bathroom and begged her to join their band. She agreed, but only if they would move back to NYC with her. So they rented an apartment/rehearsal space in Williamsburg and started writing songs in the sweltering summer heat. They debuted at CBGBs in October and have since been solicited by Pianos, Sin-e, The Delancey and Rothko. The boys call their girl Quarterslot, in honor of their first fun-filled night together, and she calls them her Good Vibrations. Their sound is sexy, spastic and soulful - guaranteed to make you lick your lips and shake your hips.
