I've been to SEA once - beautiful interiors! And many beautiful people there too. Haven't yet done the Planet Thai thing - though I love a Thai place called MOONSHADOW in Greenpoint on the corner of Bedford and Manhattan Avenue, right past McCarren Park. Ah well, I'll look for ninjas next time!

I was there, and it shook me all night long. Place was packed, so I'm not surprised if none of us connected. For reference's sake, I was wearing a pearl white vinyl coat, black shirt covered in white mystical symbols, black jeans, black boots, several pendants, blue eyeshadow (w/ three silver dots on my forehead) and occasionally blue bug-eyed glasses. I was close to the soundboard, so I had a fairly good view of the stage.

I too did not see this until today, but it makes no difference anyway as I'm just returning to town tomorrow from two weeks of teaching small humans how to express themselves in the written word. I think we ought to set up some sort of congregation of our numbers before the conservative zombies descend upon our fair burg, though pretty much all my weekends until then are booked up, between the RenFaire, the Disinfo event at Omega and a roadtrip. Plus, I'm still unemployed and quite poor as a result. Make of this data what you will.

I haven't read all this yet - and I'm not sure I can be arsed - but, like Olulabelle, I have to know: are you guys getting together yet? I NEED TO KNOW!!!

If I come to New York, will you all get together in honour of me?

Yes?

Good.

I ain't fleeing nuthin'. I wanna be in the thick of the shit. I want to show up either well-groomed in a three-piece suit, or I want to come dressed as Judge Dredd. I also have this desire to see someone in a homebrew mecha suit throw down with the riot police, until they bring out their own mechas, and then shit goes crazy in Penn Station. I could die happy seeing that, no matter who would win.

I would like to avoid being arrested, but there may come a point at which that becomes unavoidable. If I do get taken down I'd hope it wouldn't be before I grab a riot cop's baton and crack 'im across the windpipe first.

Oh, who am I fooling; I'm one of the most non-confrontative people you could meet. I just expect things to go quite a bit crazy, and I kind of wish I could go quite a bit crazy with it.

I dunno, Lionheart, what is the plan?

I'm pretending the whole thing isn't happening, because it's not really. The convention will enrich some hoteliers, politicians and prostitutes, and will snarl traffic some for a couple of days. Everything else is goyiche fantasy, like the MAFIA. The protestors will be corralled under and overpass behind chain link fences, for their own safety. The politicians and their lapcandy will be whisked from hotel to convention center in armored limosines. Neither event will make the news.

I would plan on being somewhere else on Election Day, however.

I can tell y'all right now that there's a Motherfucker Ball on Halloween night itself, I believe at Spirit, which is where I'll likely be for much of the evening into the next day. Of course, as such events are huge and most of us don't know one another on sight, either a pre-meet or some visual signifier may be in order if we're to have any hope of actually congregating.

Barring that, there's supposed to be some Ken Jacobs and Kenneth Anger films (creative lot, those Kens) being screened at Anthology Film Forum this month, which seems as good an idea as any.

Let me rephrase. I will be in New York this Friday. I will be leaving first thing Monday. If anybody would care to have a drink on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, please let me know. I will be attending the Mountain Goats show on Friday at the Knitting Factory, so sometimes before then might be a good time, though I don't know that neighborhood particularly well and am unable to suggest a meeting-place. I bite only lemons, so you have nothing to fear from me, unless your own craven fear of lemons is soon to lead your decimation in a lemon-eating duel.

I figured I'd bump this back up to top with a handful of events happening in the next couple weeks that I suspect would be of interest to our local contingent. Please discuss.

* Oct. 22: HEADQUARTERS, my friends and local mod revival sensations, will have their first show in many moons and with two new members at PLAID on 13th St., just off Union Square. They're scheduled to take the stage around 10 pm. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Dress nattily, as befits sexy young thangs at a swingin' '60's scene. The first 50 people receive complimentary copies of HQ's new EP. Additional knowledge may be obtained here.

* Oct. 29 & 31: JOHN ZORN accompanies films by KEN JACOBS (29th, 8 pm) and KENNETH ANGER (31st, 10 pm) at ANTHOLOGY FILM ARCHIVES. Zorn is best known as the avant garde composer at the helm of Electric Masada. Jacobs creates nearly abstract, dimensional, dreamlike projections using his secret "Nervous Lantern" technique; they're like staring into another universe. Anger is known as a magickal filmmaker; no doubt the date will impact the confluence of elements into an intense working of some sort. Go here for further info.

* Oct. 29, Midnight: Final performance of present run of erotic improv show FOREPLAY at The People's Improv Theater. I mention this primarily because my roommate is one of the members of this troupe, and it's very, very funny, and there's usually a party with free vino lasting into the wee hours afterwards, and there's almost always at least one pair of bare tits per show.

* Oct. 31: MOTHERFUCKER BALL at SPIRIT. Babies, if you don't know by now, y'all ain't ever gonna know. I kvetched to Michael T after the last Mofo that I felt the crowd was far too straight-laced for the true Mofo vibe; I suspect this will not be the case for the Halloween Ball. Consult http://www.motherfuckernyc.com/ for salient details.

Surely, at least one of these events can manage to attract the lot of us.

One more to hit you with:

*Oct. 29: RUBULAD Halloween party at the Happy Birthday Hideout, 338 Flushing (at Classon Ave.). I take it that's in Brooklyn. FLAMING FIRE, the most happening local artrock band, will be there, performing around midnight. I am now conflicted whether I will go there or to FOREPLAY. Tell me what you all are interested in doing to sway my easily suggestible mind.

Thinking up an 80s Slasher Victim costume for Motherfucker as we speak.

In general, though, I reccomend 'TisWas at Don Hill's for the best Friday Night club. It's a sort of Britpop New Wave party, and whenever I've been, it's been packed and everyone's been dancing.

This bar called Cellar has had some good parties, too, but that's much much smaller.
Crash Mansion is starting a 'The Queen is Dead' night, but I don't know the details.

And the Thre of Cups has a Thursday night rock party that's pretty keen as well.

Er...

...every time I've been to Tiswas, it's been on a Saturday. This is, admittedly, my limited experience.

I'm having a tough time deciding what I want to be for Halloween. Every year I swear I'm going to build this awesome, involved costume that I'll then keep on a dummy in my room forever, but I never actually end up making it. Last year I threw together a rough version of the robot cop from THX 1138, which no one seemed to recognize. I have no memory of the year before; it must've been really good. This year I thought perhaps to dress as Snoopy, but cooled on that idea. Now I'm thinking The Joker, but it seems so predictable. I want something stylish yet gaudy, and just might get me lucky. Ideas?

Oh, and here's the official poster for Friday's HQ show:

Bask in the modness of it all. OK, stop now. Save it for Friday.

Yeah. Er. well, I should have said Saturday, then. Apparently.

Because 'TisWas is, in fact, a Saturday party.

By the way - tomorrow night, Bowery Ballroom. If earnest numetal is your thing, you are going to love my friends' band, angel13. You may even want to check out www.angel13.com.

The unofficial and accidental meeting of Vlad J and I happened at that Headquarters show the other night. Unfortunately for him, I was out of my mind on whiskey and other nonsense and almost certainly came across as an overbearing maniac. But, a fine, upstanding young man is he...

Man, you must've been REALLY wasted if that's the impression you got of me.

For anyone interested who sees this in time, this is happening this evening. I, sadly, cannot attend. There's some parties coming up later in the week which I may or may not attend, culminating in MOFO Sunday night. Those of you pleading off b/c of a M-F 9-5 gig are dupes of The MAN!

Anyone thinking to have some sort of election night party to root on the good guys and start planning our expatriations if the incumbents take it again?

(sigh) It's not so much that I am The Man's Dupe, as it is that The Man has enslaved my ass to such an extent with outrageous income tax, car insurance payments that would make a Mafia numbers runner cringe, etc...

So, Man's Dupe? No. Man's SLAVE? Oh, yes sir!

This is also going to be the first MF I've missed in I don't know how long. Terrible shame...

Vlad, I'll be pickling myself again at 85A this Friday if you happen to be in the neighborhood. If yr in the mood for live music, Formula One is at Bar13 on Thursday (along with some kind of open bar), and Mesmer is at the Luna Lounge at 9 on Friday.

How about a meet up for the Halloween parade on Sunday?

I don't know whether my finances can support going to a likely repeatable show, but as I intend to go to the Ken Jacobs/John Zorn collaboration at Anthology Friday at 8, that should put me in the right neighborhood, and hopefully in the right frame of mind, for drinky-winks. As usual, I guarantee nothing.

As for the parade, I know not. What time does it start? There's the Kenneth Anger/Zorn companion piece at Anthology that night at 10, and sometime in the early evening I must take my nephew trick or treating, after which I'll probably spend a little time raiding his goodie bag. Christ, with the sugar going into him I have no idea how my sister is going to get him to go to bed in time to get up for school the next day. Me, I'll be Mofucking things up 'til da breakadawn.

Did anyone make it to MF? I saw Caleigh as a sexy demon, and I cheaped out and just went as Shaggy, hair combed forward and green shirted. (I think this annoyed people who actually spent money on their costumes. Sue me, I'm broke.) Anybody else?
