SK can spell just fucking fine. However, SK is a sad, cack-handed idiot who can barely type.

SK hangs his head in shame regularly.

Fae is an alcoholic. Seriously.

Hir head hangs in sincere shame today for what s/he did early this morning to a human s/he LUVz. Second/third/fourth/can't-count-how-many-times my drunkeness has painfully hurt someone close to me. And I'm missing work right now because of it.

But I haven't had a cigarette in nearly six months. Cheated once with a single drag one Wednesday and regretted it all weekend long.

The good news is that you know you fucked up and you know at least most of the reason why you fucked up. Very important step towards unfucking things.

Question is, do you want to give up.

Wow, I didn't know Hause was a smoker.

The last few days I've been thinking of giving it up. I've been a bit of a hermit lately, so I don't have the bar thing, or smoking with friends excuse. And they're like $5 a pack, and I smoke about a pack a day. And I've been smoking for about nine years now.

I tried to go without the other day but as soon as I got to work I would get bored, go on break and light up. Several times.

I might try the nicotine patch. I heard you can overdose on nicotine if you smoke while on patch, and that'd be a pretty good deterrant. Plus I heard you have crzy dreams.

Patches worked for me. I never died, not even once, from smoking while I had a patch on. But they definitely affected my dreams. I'd say try 'em for a while. A two-week course will cost you about as much as two weeks of cigarettes so you're not out too much if you don't like 'em.

Is there someone you could tell? Someone who would make things really uncomfortable if you were to start again? Cos perhaps this is just a sign of my own crazy levels of over-politeness but once I had told a few people I was quitting and they believed me, I was just too mortified to start again apart from a crafty one once or twice at times of high drama...

Actually, that's completely disfunctional isn't it: "Never mind the risk of horrible illnesses; what I'm really worried about is derision from my pals..." But perhaps derision is easier to get one's head around?
Anyway, good luck.

I'm now 63 days smoke free.

Okay, you have to count a lapse when Finland won eurovision, but in my defence I was out of my skull on cheap beer. And I regretted it. And I haven't lapsed since.

I don't know how I did it this time, because all the other times didn't work. But one thing that has been good is, believe it or not, a little Yahoo! Widget that's on my computer desktop and tells me how many days I haven't smoked. The cool thing it does too is it calculates, based on figures I input, how many cigarettes I have not smoked in that time. When you get to even just 200 cigarettes you haven't had, it starts to feel pretty good; just imagine all those in your mouth at once. And I averaged only 4 cigarettes a day; a pack-a-day smoker would have gone through 1260 smokes by now...

I'd been thinking of quitting cigs for a few months now, indubitably spurred on by the fact that come the month of April, DK will by and large be smoke-free. So, a couple of nights ago I ran out and didn't bother buying a new pack, knowing full well I'd be up, way up, before the nearby store opens. Yesterday I didn't smoke. But today, because I don't have classes until 6PM and the weather's fugly, I'm bored and I want to smoke. Thinking about going to that Italian deli for soup. But may be weak on the way over. Aaargh.

It would actually be interesting to see how many contributors to this thread have succesfully quit smoking, and I ask that as someone who has just succumbed to my almighty lord, the Marlboro cigarette -- but then, I justify to myself in an entirely enlightened state that it takes baby steps to quit, yes yes it does. I'll de-escalate, oh yes yes I will.

Bought the small pack with the intention of smoking only when it is akin to torture, the non-smoking.

I haven't had a cigarette since Jan 1 2006. At least, I think I haven't.

yay kit-kat! yay haus! I don't smoke, but my pals who have quit, or just tried to quit have often found it just devastatingly, shamingly difficult. So. Good work.
