I've just finished watching Cannibal Holocaust ("banned in the UK since 1982").
I'm not sure how to describe it. Goddess it's awful. No, awful is not strong enough to describe this film. The basic story rather pre-dates Blair Witch - four American documentary makers go off into the South American jungle to film cannibals, don't return and some anthropologist bloke follows their trail and finds their bodies and their footage.
The footage shows the film makers being complete bastards, raping, terrorising the tribe to get film and, naturally, they end up killed and eaten. All with a dreadful and strangely soppy soundtrack. At the end, the tv company who sponsered the rescue mission decide to burn the film and the anthropologist bloke sticks his pipe in his mouth and muses "I wonder who the real cannibals are" before walking off through Manhattan. Oh, and there's lots and lots of naked women and rape scenes.
Why was this banned for so long? It's utter shite. Although apparently the bloke who leant the video to my sister was really scared by it and thought it was a snuff movie. |
