Fuck that. "Gondoliers" would only have been any good if the Pirates had left Penzance and come and whupped their asses but good.

Oh yeah. Back to the point. If this IS gonna happen, then I think from the point we're all agreed that it will we should switch to email & pms. (Though obviously warn us all in the thread first. Otherwise we'll just think it's died.)

more stupid ideas:

Can we turn the place into a big mid-20th C. hipster artists workshop? please? And we can all slouch in the corners smoking woodbines and take turns making excessively large abstract murals by running up and down enormous sheets of paper with paint rollers? Whilst listening to free jazz?

Because that would be cool.

I want to add my name to this by the way, sounds like a magic idea to me - does anyone know the state of the building inside? Power? Water?

How many floors does this building have? We could have a floor for each little thingamy that we do there. I like the idea of a big mid-20th C. hipster artists workshop. I think we should have live free-jazz in the corner though and get sugar rocks and throw them in to the paint to give it an interesting texture.

Miiight be able to get hold of a London-based generator/small rig - might well need transport for it, but yeah, might well be up for this... also have wrenches/cordless drill/screwdriver..

I'm afraid the free jazz has to come from either a)an antique transistor tuned to a possibly fictional underground NY radio station or b)a reel-to-reel tape recorder playing a home bootlegged Mingus concert again and again..

And we all have to get haircuts that are sort of like quiffs but a bit too messy & out of control.. that's the way these things work.

Very true. So, got the hair... Could borrow the reel-2-reel!!! What about exotic dancers?

I refuse to have an out of control quiff on the top of my head. I shall dress like an old lady complete with straw hat instead. I think that an eccentric old biddy fits in everywhere.

Sounds fabulous, Janina - every squat party should have one.

As for me, I also already have one of these..."And we all have to get haircuts that are sort of like quiffs but a bit too messy & out of control.."

so that's cool...

but I think perhaps formal dress, ladies and gents... And I have a short thing on minidisc of me shouting about satan and seduction over Jimi Somerville's 'I feel love', if we don't mind stretching the definition of free jazz a little...

If anyone wants lounge jazz, we could steal a piano and I'd happily provide.

This sounds fucking brilliant.

I have a piano in the garage and we don't have anywhere to put it right now. Actually Paleface you've played it, it needs to be tuned.

I haven’t had much of a chance to look at the building close up, but I think that the best way in would be through an open first floor window.
If anyone wants to steal something, a good, long ladder would be useful.

The window that I mentioned has been open for at least 2 and ½ years, so we should have plenty of time to prepare for this, but the more I think about this, the more excited I get.

If we do have to go through the window I don’t know if we would get a generator in, it’s quite high and all the ground floor entrances seem to be boarded up. However, this all depends on how big the generator is and what equipment we have.

It’s been interesting looking at the legal side of squatting, in theory we could have a party inside the block and outside (the area around the block is fenced off but with a convenient gap in the fence). Trespassers can’t be prosecuted if no forced entry has taken place and I don’t think we can be moved quickly (although the CJB may have changed this, does anyone know anything about these issues?). I don’t think it’s illegal to organise a squat, unless it’s in an embassy.

I’ll start PMing people soon, but I think the open forum is fine for now.

Hasten to add...

I wasn't really concerned about the legality- once we're in, it's ours until they get an IPO (as far as I remember- as you said, shit may have changed).

More that if we're expected, then we're doing a B'n'E, if they know about it.

I'm paranoid. Kill me. Go on, do it. It'll confirm my view of the universe.

Other than (and above) that, I'm in.

im in, if youll have me.
and if youll tell me where this place is, in relation to junction nie on the M25...its near london, but in or out in regard to the orbital?

and have you got ways to sort music?

one thing i always worry about with this shit is am i the only one who knows any first aid....
and should i bring a sleeping bag?

I’ll inform everyone of any important developments by PM and maybe set up a group reconnaissance. My main concern is with getting into the place. We have to walk before we crawl, the music will surely flow, the paint fly and the fires light.

Of course we’ll have you toksik, it’s inside the M25. I’ve done a rudimentary St. Johns ambulance first aid course a few years ago, but if anyone wants to expand his or her knowledge of this it would be helpful.

BTW does anyone know where we can hire a good ladder? Or maybe mug a window cleaner?

Depending on how this develops in terms of scale, the greater the involvement and commitment. My initial ideas were pretty basic (get in, hang, small party, etc.) but it looks like developing further, who knows? But it’s all good and I’m still well up for it.

Oh jesus, this is that part of life that I hate, the bit where I admit that I've got a ladder phobia and reconaissance for another way to get in to that building would be really really handy.

So is there no 'official' future planned for the place? Cause if not then... you know... Barbelith HQ... the Barbelith Community / unCorporation... "subversive seminars, consultancies, parties..."

We have to walk before we crawl

There speaks a wise man. Plenty of time to get fancy once we've figured out the basics.

Oh, did a St.John's course last year so it's all reasonably fresh, and can possibly scrounge a refresher through work, will check it out...

Janina... I've not seen the place, but I'm reckoning that only the initial "away team" will have to do the scaling. Once in, they can open lower windows from the inside, making it easier to get people and equipment in.

... workable?
