Cholister: I'll do you some Keith Jarrett - most amazing Jazz pianist wever if you want PM me yr. address.

This is fun - kinda like a really low-fi Napster!

Anybody wants to sort me out with what they think is the best Le Tigre go for it. I will follow June's example and post a ludicrously long list in the next few days (won't have time before next week).

Nearly all of my Fall stuff is on vinyl, but I have the means to put it on CD anyway

Wow! Such power! Oh, what I wouldn't give to be able to do that..

[a wee digression] Speaking of vinyl, and computers, some guy has invented a method for directly scanning in vinyl discs and converting the visual pic into sound (presumably an attempt at the original sound on the record).

See here the method and hear the results.

Woo! Looks like I'm getting a bit of Fall then.

Although, y'know, you don't have to send anything to me, because I'm starting to feel like a scrounge, because I've got nothing to offer in return. One day, one day, I'll send you all big parcels full of GOLD.

Dubloons, o' course.

Can we stick to lists of wanted cds and if anyone has them they can respond? Lists thousands of albums people own will bog this thread way way down.

Riz: Ive got the Falls Hex enduction, infotainment scan, 2g+2, 458489A and B sides and nations saving grace...Half Japanese Charmed Life and Music to Strip by.

Wanted: Christie Malry´s Own Double Entry.

07:58 / 11.10.02
WANT: anything by The Slickers, Plastique Bertrand, Jack Teagarden *SINGING* "Peg o' my Heart" (ie not instrumental) and Mr Illmatic's lunatic voodoo calypso.
Can help out with some non-English language stuff: some cracking flamenco, fado, Latin ska (King Chango), Les Negresses Vertes, Mano Negra.
Also, have jacked-off to issue on another thread about Mississipi John Hurt and Robert Johnson, so they're up for grabs too (plus Leadbelly and John Lee Hooker).

Rizla:

I've got both Arab On Radar albums and the 1st SY EP.

Saveloy:

I could hook you up w/Metal Machine Music.

I've got maybe 2000+ albums (1000+ on CD) and CD burning technology (which is actually my roommate's and which I've never actually used but that I'm sure I can figure out, if so inclined), so I could contribute if there's a demand. My stuff's pretty much all over the map, though. Breadth but little depth. Biggest concentration of one artist would be Ye Olde GBV (hovering around 30 official selections between CD and 7" vinyl, very little Pollard solo stuff and no Suitcase). Little pockets of No/New Wave, E6, a heady latter-day Beach Boys set, Thrill Jockey... Probably fairly predictable, for the most part, but there you go.

oh - and someone back there mentioned Keith Jarrett as the best jazz painist ever or something - I'd say listen to Marilyn Crispell or Cecil Taylor for some really mind blowing stuff, especially Taylor, my god, what a man

The Return Of Rothkoid
23:34 / 17.10.02
Re: Jarrett - I'm kinda "into" jazz, I spose, and I remain kinda unmoved by the Koln Concert disc. People raved and raved and it was a bit ... so what? I didn't get it.

I DID like a trio recording of him, live in Japan in '96. I think it's just called Tokyo '96 or something like that - the power and interplay there was great. But... well, I'd take any greatest-pianist-evah things with a grain of salt. I kinda wish he'd break into Joplin-styled insanity once in a while.

I have a reasonable amount of experimental stuff if people want it. Hmm.

Well, "best pianist ever" was me being a bit carried away, it's a bit like saying "best cup of tea ever" ie. I enjoyed it a lot, rather than my best cup was that one at 3.15pm back in August 96...
I do likes that Koln Concert disc tho' - as for the discordance and insanity - well, I'm more of a smooth soul kinda guy...

well, with pleasure, Fred !
a friend of mine got it and i planned to ask him for it for years, so maybe putting your list here could help me to find something else in your stuff (somebody who got "ascenseur pour l'échafaud" probably got some more good stuff, uh ? )
pm your details and we'll do this.

Oh, um, y'know .. a fine selection of punk rock, "indie" rock, art rock, noise rock, garage rock, weirdo rock, psyche rock, various combinations thereof, various completely unclassifiable kinds of noise and lesser amounts of Digital Hardcore, hip-hop, glitchy electronica, (urrgh) alt-country and, um, other things..

Illmatic: I'd very much appreciate a bit of Jarrett. In return... I've got allsorts, but you might like Michel Petrucciani if you haven't heard him. Obviously, I have other non-jazz stuff... but even my CD collection isn't obscure enough to fit into people's requests here. Also kicking around: Monk, Coltrane, lots of Jimmy Smith, bits of Brubeck... and then a pile of indie, rock, hip-hop, and calm electronic stuff.

I am keenly interested in any historical classical recordings (pre-WWII) that anybody may have. Furtwangler, et al. I have only one or two discs to offer in return at the moment, though somewhere down the line I may have more as I am working on an LP-to-CD transfer project. So far I have had very little success -- been very much plagued by poor sound quality, which for these already imperfect older recordings renders them unlistenable. If anybody has any advice on this process, it would be very much appreciated.

Sav, I can get you the Lightning Bolt stuff easy once Soulseek is back up in a day or so.

As I mentioned in another thread, I'd be really happy if someone would hook me up with all of Peter Gabriel's albums with Genesis, especially Lamb Lies Down On Broadway.

I'm also fucking desperate to get hold of some Lightning Bolt, but I still can't find their records anyehere in the UK.

Heard a new one by them on the radio the other day and it was just astonishing.

I hear they're now signed to Domino and touring the UK later in the year though, so presumably their stuff's finally going to become more available..

I've got a massive Billy Childish obsession. I absolutely must have one or both of the Buff Medway LPs - "Steady the Buffs" and "1914" but I am arse-bone skint. Anyone up for a swap? I can provide a big, anal list of all me CDs and that if required.
