and count yourself lucky, and if they're not involved with someone else, which as other people have suggested, makes things tricky and basically unlikely, go for it.
mind you, as per Disco on exceptions, i spent a lovely long time with someone I got together with during the collapse/wreckage of another relationship and I don't regret it at all.
