I'm having trouble with with album at the mo. It just seems to be Interpol on autopilot pretty much.

Apart from "Not Even Jail" which is a good as anything on "Bright Lights" if not **better** and I have been listening to on repeat for the last two days in a slightly obsessional way. Worth buying the LP for that track alone.

Although on reflection is does sound a bit like "Pounding" by Doves.

Make of that what you will.

Saw them last night at the Brizton Academy. Good set, especially the 10 minute or so funk out (can't think of a better description) that started their encore. Although returning to something Flux said upthread a lot of their songs do sond *very* like each other, almost to parody. Funnily this is not something I noticed too much or cared too much about on record but it's a bit more noticable live.

m83 were in support. I think they could be big if they got vocals. perhaps they could get guest vocalists sort of joy division meets basement jaxx.

Hey, I was at that gig too. Didn't know much 'pol, but certainly enjoyed; any Joy Division comparisons seemed just to me. Also, screw Kraftwerk, the bass player is the spitting image of Alan Turing. Lots of fun, anyhow, and some strong songs.

M83 were a bit crap; they had one really good song and they played it at the wrong time. Other than that, slightly prog, very boring, and they need to make playing keyboards more exciting. Also, their bassist was on another planet, bugging out to some other band playing in his head - his were not as exciting.

When I first listened to Turn On The Bright Lights, the first comparison that sprang to mind was early Blur. Seriously. Stuff like Sing off Leisure, or Oily Water off Modern Life Is Rubbish...they have a very similar distorted guitar sound and general vibe.
And that'd be a good thing, IMHO...
