And the literal interpretation of the Cashian meisterwerk "Ghost Riders In The Sky" would seem to suggest that the mortal cry of men "trying to catch the Devl's Herd/Across this endless sky" was "Yipie-aie-ee, ah yippie-aie-ayayayay", which seems starkly unlikely. One would expect something a little more somber, given their stated displeasure at the task, and further, something more pained, as the singer notes that the animals are flaming, suggesting a degree of discomfort in the process.
This method of critical appraisal seems a bit unexamined. On the other hand, applied across the board, it provides some remarkable images. REM, for example, may be asssumed to drink a lot of Kiora and worry continuously about whether they remembered to bring their skeletons when they packed to go on tour. |
