Poor Richard Gere... The moral of the story is to never tell the press you're going to have a gerbil, er, herbal enema...

Peggy Sue about Johnny Cash...? It crossed my mind...

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Seriously, why not "Oh girl?"

Because it's not a specific form of address, it's an exclamation - as in 'Boy oh boy! or 'Oh, man!' I suspect this is patently obvious to pretty much every English-speaking human being in the Western World.

Biz, given point number six in that definition, I can now no longer hear that song without thinking of some kind of Jeeves & Wooster thing happening with Buddy and his manservant.

So. Thread retitling: was Buddy Holly overprivileged scum?

I keep wondering whether the Sufi poet Rumi was gay.
Was he one of the Butthole Sufis?

From the hot summer joint 'Oh Boy' by Cam'Ron and his mate:

Where the fuck is my (Boy!) I got trust for my (Boy!)
That's why I buck for my (Boy!) that's my nigga (Oh Boy!)
He 'gone get his (Boy!) he got love for his (Boy!)
That's my (Boy, Boy, Boy, Boy!)

It's like I've been saying for years: rap is gay.

All my love
All my kissing
You don't know what you've been missing
Oh boy- when you're with me - oh boy
the world can see that you were meant for me

All my life Ive been a wasting
Tonight there'll be no hesitating
Oh boy- when you're with me - oh boy
the world can see that you were meant for me

Stars appear and shadows fall
and you can hear my heart call
and a bit of loving makes everything alright
Im gonna see my baby tonight

Hmmmm.

Applying the same logic to Britney's 'Hit Me Baby, One More Time', one would assume it's based upon a sadomasochistic relationship with an extremely young infant...

And the literal interpretation of the Cashian meisterwerk "Ghost Riders In The Sky" would seem to suggest that the mortal cry of men "trying to catch the Devl's Herd/Across this endless sky" was "Yipie-aie-ee, ah yippie-aie-ayayayay", which seems starkly unlikely. One would expect something a little more somber, given their stated displeasure at the task, and further, something more pained, as the singer notes that the animals are flaming, suggesting a degree of discomfort in the process.

This method of critical appraisal seems a bit unexamined. On the other hand, applied across the board, it provides some remarkable images. REM, for example, may be asssumed to drink a lot of Kiora and worry continuously about whether they remembered to bring their skeletons when they packed to go on tour.

The clues to his long clandestine affair with Hank Marvin are all there in the song: Stars appear and The Shadows fall

Also, he infected Hank with the big glasses meme. Man on man rumpy pumpy may explain Hank's idiosyncratic dancing style too, in a "you won't be able to walk straight for a week after this..." way.

I've always wondered about Rumi and Shams as well. I've met several proffessors willing to look into it, but not many Muslims, who from what I can tell aren't big on Sufism anyway.

Nick: it's Marty Robbins who released that. Y'know, he of the West Texas town of El Paso. Hey - based on that can we extrapolate that Robbins had a love for an illegal alien? While on the lam?
