I'm leaving London - let's all get horribly drunk

It's the obvious response to stress and trauma/happiness and excitement (delete where inapplicable). I'm going to be moving in late September or early October - not sure exactly when yet - so at some point I think we should foregather in a hostelry (suggestions welcome) and drink a great deal. Please say when & where would be good/not good and we'll sort something out...

Next weekend and then on at fortnightly intervals really, otherwise I'd be coming from work and be all grumpy. I hope you'll be happier where you end up.

With you and SFD leaving, is this some sort of karmic thing to make up for Ganesh and Zocher moving down? Does something bad happen when too many Barbelites meet up?

Wait, I've been to those get-togethers, don't bother to answer that one...

Good for you, etcetera...

Umm: early October's better for me, simply because I'm in Cambridge from the 29th Sept and not here, and that makes getting to London much easier and less stressful.

Drinking a great deal sounds good, though...

Name the dates and I should be there!

28th is baaad for me, being as I have to attend a lesbian partnership registration/much drinking I would hope. So, er, much drinking in your honour any time I think.... as to where. Hmm. I rather liked the Hobgoblin - bloody good beer, cheap, good music. Right near a tube station, too.

I'm still here dammit and as long as that's the case I can do the drinking thing. For about the next two or three weeks. Probably. Not this Friday, I'll be in Brighton.

If it's after that, sorry, but have a good time anyway.

What is it about leaving London? Everyone's pissing off. I know why I'm going... but maybe my motives are not as personal as I thought.

the mitre might, er be a place that is quite fun, but it is quite small too - oh and yes, i'll be there.

I'll be there - unless it's the last weekend in September, the 28/29th, when I'm pretty booked up.

The JC? Or the Pillars of Hercules is starting to feel like home. It depends how many people are likely to turn up.

Name the place and I'll try to be in some form of attendance.

28/29 is IMPOSSIBLE simply because I'm carting half my worldly posessions x-country. And Monday and Tuesday (30th, 1st) are also impossible due to the heady world of journalism. Fuck, I'm awkward. Terms, you see.

I like sfd's suggestion of the Hobgoblin. Did you mean the one on Holloway Road? OK, the one on Holloway Road. Anyone fancy meeting this week? It doesn't preclude a celebration later, you know.

I wish I were there. Because I won't be, obviously, unless someone can provide some more high-powered lotto-win sigil voodoo than I've been able to work so far. Maybe I'll just get drunk anyway and sing badly.

Sniff.

I'm back at university on the 21st and not around London town again until the 17th October. If I'm feeling home-like around the time of your leaving thing then I might come along anyway but really it's all dependant on money anyway. So I'll just wish you luck now and have a good time back in the academic world of the dodderers.

28th's out for me... (I think) it's the Don't Blow The Shit Out Of People demo that day. Other than that (and this week) I'm cool- I'm off work for 3 weeks starting Monday morning.

The JC is pretty big, but the Hobgoblin (yeah, the one on Holloway Road) sells, well Hobgoblin, one of my fave beers ever. At £2 a pint. And when we were there before they were playing the Pixies, as I recall. Come on, what more do you want!

This week's bad for me. Could do Saturday, at a push, though I have a party to go to later.

So shall we tentatively say the weekend after the 28th/29th? It's not wildly convenient but at least I'd be starting term with the requisite hangover.

Count me in! I second (or should that be third) the Holloway Road Hobgoblin! It was the scene of a mighty mini-meet and they do Thai Food too, quite nice food if I remember correctly.

I'd love to come. Forgive density: but are we saying weekend of 5/6th October? Hobgoblin sounds good (anywhere in North London is good to me...)

Hmm right next to the tube as well right on the Piccadilly Line. Works for me. And Hobgoblin pubs are usually cool, because who would go to a pub called the Hobgoblin inhabit them .
If I can ask where you off to Kit Kat Club?

Yeah I'll be up for this one, and thankfully (if it is at the Hobgolbin) it's one the bars I've been to before so I wont get lost (in theory)

This sounds alright for me too, as I think Oct. 6th is a bit too early to have essay deadlines and shit like that. Yay! Yay!

Hmmm, I'm beginning to think I should drive to Cardiff and keep my car there for my first couple of weeks. Then I could come home and say bye in a suitable fashion.

Soudns good for me - avoid a barbeque with dribs and drabs of freshers and let everyone arrive and unpack whilst I escape...

Al - going to Oxford, so not exactly dropping off the face of the known world.

I don't know whether I'm going to be moving that weekend - everything is going to be inordinately tight as I don't have much time to find somewhere to live and move there - but it should be all right I think. If I can't make it you'll just have to get sozzled without me (which rather takes away the point, but am sure you can all pretend that beer is the point anyway. What, you mean it isn't?).

Not enormously keen on the Hobgoblin - better for evening sessions than afternoon ones, I reckon - but if everyone else is happy it'll suffice I suppose. Will try and think of somewhere else acceptable...

Kit-Kat - it's your do! It's up to you where we go. And when - if you can't be there, there really isn't much point, is there? Pick a date that's good for you and a place you like. People will still get horribly drunk....

Oh Christ, even got your name wrong.... sorry. No wonder it takes me three goes to get a PM to you. Still, after a few beers I won't even remember my own name....

Ok How about the george in borough (nearest tube is london bridge) - central - nice easy to get to - big beer courtyard with serving hatch for sunny weather and interiors for wet. how does that sound?

I wish I knew when would be good, but I won't for some time - I finish work on the 24th, my God, and then and only then will I have time to sort moving out properly. It is pretty definite I think that not the 28th/29th is better for people - so yes, Lilith, it is the 5th/6th of Oct.

Sleaze - the George! What a good idea. It's pretty big inside, isn't it? That might well be a very good option.

Sorry to be missing you - never quite managed to bend your ear as much as I want to at those barbemeets. Can't come that weekend as am visiting folks, but many congratulations on leaving london...

It now seems as though I will be on the move that weekend and so it is probably out after all. Bebother and confusticate it. There is always the 28th/29th or schoolnights the week after, but I am increasingly inclined to forget about it and just come to town for the next meeting. Will think more and come back to it.

This weekend's no go for me and a fair few others, I expect; I've got my performance on Friday night, and a parnership registration to attend on Saturday. Quite a few others will be going to the Stop the War march on the 28th, too.
