On a day when any soundbite will sound sick and trite compared to the enormity of events I've found newspaper coverage particularly sickening (I haven't turned on the radio or TV yet... give me time)
wraparound full page pictures of the evens of last year and headlines like "the forgotten story of ground zero". As if we've been allowed to forget the events at ground zero last year for even one single second in the past 365 days.

but yahoo has changed their front page to gray, as a mark of respect (?)

Black presumably being considered a little too morbid or something..

I've been more disturbed by the particularly undignified Pentagon service... some guy straight out of a musical singing some song straight out of a musical. I switched over to find the news on ITN showing a St. Pauls service with rose petals floating down on to the altar. Admittedly watching the news this time last year was plain frightening but right now a little bit of calm reflection would be appreciated.

...the particularly undignified Pentagon service... some guy straight out of a musical singing some song straight out of a musical...

Because musicals are so inherently...

Aw, fuck it. I haven't the vitriol for it today.

Just opened up my Hotmail inbox, only to be greeted by a virtual wad of commemorative spam (in amongst all the Amazing New Hair-loss Formulae!, offers to Squash Debt Now! and guides in how to Seduce Women Into Bed!), nearly all of it being made up of images of US flags, much like the end of Saving Private Ryan. It's cheap and it's tacky and I really don't understand the people who went to the meeting and decided "Hey! Let's remember them this way."

The Sydney Morning Herald's subs' department is going to get arsekicked. The front page of the paper - it's a broadsheet, like The Guardian - ran the names of the victims in the shape of the two towers, white type on black background.

Except it obviously hadn't been proofed.

Why?

'Cos, in the middle of the names, presumably left from design stages are the words MORE TO COME! - perhaps there's something to be said for using random Latin or just XXXX to mark when you don't know what the fuck's happening with a layout.

That's a nightmare. Man, heads will roll.

And creepy too. The synchronicity there is not one to dwell on comfortably.

I don't think any 9/11 commemoration was as horrible and disturbing as our own Billy Corgan's "9/11 American Heroes Freedom Feast".

That guy is fucked up.
