How long do we wait until we decide whether people are still around?

Can't we just make it a free-for-all? 1st person (who hasn't shit a track onto this tape already) to PM me with their address gets the fun treat time. I think this would improve expediency. This is proving to be a most impractical enterprise. Part of its' charm, I guess. So anyway, howsabout it, gang? The way I see it is we don't actually need a running order, we just need to get the tape (and all its' aquired bits and bobs) in motion. As long as its' movement is logged here then everything's cool, no?

More clarifications:

- The tape that An Ox has is TAPE 3, which starts with 'Drop the Needle'

- I've stuck the list for tape 3 in the first post of this thread, so they're all in the same place. Should appear when the moderators do their thing.

- I'm cool with An Ox's idea of sending it to whoever PMs him first, but I suggest he PMs everyone on the list below him (everyone he can find, at least), so they know about it.

- The tape that June has (which is due to go to Mirror next) is tape 1

For possible future reference:

A suggestion for a variation on this idea, which I have implemented successfully elsewhere, and which may produce speedier results:

Everybody who wants to contribute a track sends a blank and a recorded cd to the organizer, noting the two or three tracks they want considered for inclusion in the group disc.

The organizer selects the tracks to be included, burns a copy of the final product for everybody who contributed, and distributes. Possibly adding candy or other fabulous prizes to the mailing.

I never got one. No idea what's happened. Maybe we should start a new tape? Having said that, the second Barbelith Notebook seems to have stalled too...maybe these collaborative projects just don't work.

If we do decide to do this again, perhaps a mix CD were everyone uploads a track to some ftp space is a better idea. Then we can have a design contest for a cover and track order, and whoever wants a copy can download the tracks, burn them to CD and then print out the cover.

FTP idea sounds like it would work, but seems less - well, I was going to say fun, but that would sound daft what with all the angst and confusion we've gone through with this thing.

if someone has the space for an ftp i'd love to upload- it seems like a great way to share great tunes without a cassette flying around the world getting lost in transit etc. Also it'd be a nice way to refer to something discussed in the boards?

would legal be an issue? if so maybe a way to work is those that sign up could pm the link to one another to keep it out of the public domain- especially with the current state of play over file sharers.

any volunteers? i really have no idea how to set this sort of thing up and any ftp i'd set up would have to be based around my work- which would be a bad idea... I would happily contribute to costs of cd's burnt tho...
