So issue #24 is out today. And you people WILL talk about it, so help me. *shakes cane*

How did Cali-Beth get that scar across her nose? Was it from the plane crash?

And why do all the women who sexually pursue Yorick seem to come from the cover of fashion magazines?

It was from being Amy Racecar.

I just got hella into this book and it's fucking fantastic, not just because it's, you know, riveting, but also because Yorick talks about The D and reading Preacher ("Fuck Communism"! Ha! I wanted to do that do! But I don't smoke!) like a normal person. I love that about this book. I love that about BK Vaughn's writing en toto, actually. Authenticity.

So, yeah. I'm glad ol' Yorick is finally, well, you know.....

I'm also re-reading The Stand at the same time, so I've been washing my hands a lot.

Amy Racecar...

Hmmm....

Not to sound stupid but what does Amy Racecar, a fictional character created by the fictional Virginia Applejack in Stray Bullets have anything to do with some girl Yorick runs into at a church?

While I'm enjoying the book I don't think the book has any depth and Vaughan's writing is a bit too straight and unambitious.

This month, I forget why I'm a fan. Hopefully I'll be reminded next month.

Um....hey had similar facial scarring......?

Didn't think it was that much of a stretch.

My bad.

I'm enjoying the way Vaughan wrong-foots yr expectations slightly, in that it's not when Yorick spends about two issues tied up by a dominatrix that he finally has sex (instead he has what looks like a spiritual revelation), it's when he goes to church to confess his sins (no spiritual revelation there).

However, at this point in order to keep me happy Vaughan needs to ensure that Yorick's accurate observation about what happens to the people who get close to him (or get within a 1 mile radius) is not proved true this time. He certainly needs to ensure that the first page of the next issue does not see Beth saying "what was that noise?" over her shoulder and clothes being hastily gathered before the status quo of the book can be messed with any further. Ideal scenario: have Beth show that she can indeed take care of herself, and join up with the others much to 355's consternation.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that the three women on the last panel are the three others who survived the plane crash, and that Beth's scar wasn't inflicted in the crash...

Oh thank God...

Y'know, it occurs to me that one of the things I like about Y is that while it's quite common for comics to have sweet but goofy, stupidly idealistic protagonists, it's rare that they're deliberately written that way and that the other characters comment on this - usually this is only done when a smarter writer takes over a character previously created by a more naive one...

so the deed actually happened in issue twenty four (or was it all off-camera? mature readers eh?) - two years of being the only man on the planet and he finally takes a dip? this comic's hilarious - i think they've got the second trade in the library now, might get it for laughs.

You would have loved issue 22 Gambit, he spends a page discussing how much time he's spent with Mrs Palm and her five daughters in the last two years...

well thank christ the future of humanity rests with some politician's son david blaine wannabe who'd rather be amusing himself gently than sowing the seeds of love. meanwhile the monkey's bloody rampant, the mossad chick's really getting pissed off washing the monkeyspunk from her hair.

I picked up Kimono Dragons the other day, the most recent trade, and continue to love Y. The dialogue is top quality, the plot's just demented enough, the art's fantastic and the quality is consistent.

Oooh, now this is a book I'm going to pick up in trade form. How many trades are out now? Is the end of the story in sight?

Currently there are eight trades including Kimono Dragons, which collects up to issue #48. Y is scheduled to end at issue #60, so there will probably be 10 trades in all.
