Okay, off the top of my head:

- the Vibe Bar has an outside and an inside, though might necessitate getting on the Ughcentral line

- there's a place just opposite Foyles, no, not the other side of Charing Cross Road, opposite it across that road down the side where everyone parks their bike, that I remember going to that was quite good

- upstairs at Point 101 has good cocktails and nice sofas, though it's a bit expensive and sometimes wanky

fridgemagnet - isn't point 101 that place that has doormen? looks a bit daunting, although the other suggestion you had (the pillars of hercules? great beer!) sounds less scary. i want to come, but i'm very very deaf at the moment, so people are going to have to shout at me. and i need to get a bit drunk, i think, because there's a party going on in my house that day and when i get home i'm going to have to be sociable with lots of women i've never met before.

For those too young to remember these things, Point 101 was the site of the third (or second, depending on how you look at it - opinions differ) least fun Barbemeet ever. I very strongly suggest that it be avoided. Also, SFD would be unable to hear a verklempt thing over the piped jazz funk.

Even though I'm not sure I'll get there I second that. It's not the door staff (they're not always men) who worry me - in my experience they have always been lovely. No, it's the fact that there's an attendant in the bogs who sprays you with smelly stuff whether you want to be sprayed or not and then demands a tip. They may also have televisions in the loos there (tho' I might be muddling it with somewhere nearby) and if that's so then it's another damn good reason to avoid the place. Oh and the site's cursed too, courtesy of Uncle Aleister. Allegedly.

At the risk of scattering the cats who have already been herded into an appropriately small area, I would like to propose either a) the aformentioned Vibe Bar or b) The Blue Posts on Rupert Street opposite the metro cinema.

The Vibe Bar is nice enough and has a large outdoor area for good summer weather enjoyment. The Blue Posts is just a nice, relaxed old fashioned pub in the West End.

What do you think? Or have I just sent in the elephants to disturb the kittens?

I haven't been to Point 101 for a while, but I do remember the "here's a paper towel where's my quid" bloke. Also that the concrete and glass construction makes it basically an echo chamber. And I'm a bit deaf too.

Okay, leave that out then.

I like the idea of the Pillars of Hercules, it's a decent place that's easy to find, and I also like the Vibe Bar for garden and other reasons, but it is a little far to stagger back home from.

Shall we tentatively say the PoH at 4pm? Unless anyone knows of a good place with a decent garden...

I'm getting a bit concerned as to how we're going to meet up... I've met a few people before, but certainly not everyone. Will someone recognise my fuzzy head? Don't want to be left alone in a corner while everyone's whoopin it up.

I'm 6'1", short hair, oblong glasses, leather jacket, kinda medium build, but I can't predict what I'll be wearing tomorrow. PM for mobile number if that will help.
