I liked the first gun control thread (I don't really know if it was the first, but it was the first one I saw, and it wasn't the most recent one). It was kind of a "Americans are dangerous" v.s. "Englishmen are pussies" thing. It's always great when Barbelith gets patriotic.

I've just got into a really annoying argument with a friend on email which has reminded me how precious the ability to have a Really Good Fight with someone is, and how it must not be wasted.

feuds? i hate em, really hate em. powerful arguements are great, but i recall recently yelling (capital letters all the way because i hadn't yet learned how to do bold or italics) at someone in total frustration due to his endless insistance that i'm a racist. and a liar. also - not a feud - the experience of having a horrendous experience kicked around on the board for pages and pages (the 'revenge' thread) was incredibly upsetting and i hope that kind of thing never happens again, to anyone.

but this place is nothing. another board has in the past been spammed with anti shortfatdyke threads (including the claim that i was rose west's daughter, had a worse human rights record than milosovic, should have my throat cut and that i was a short, fat, dyke) due to me pointing out the classic signs of troll behaviour - such as spamming a board with bizarre insults. but that was just stupid - when it happens on barbelith, it's far more hurtful.

i must also admit to recently shouting at e randy dupre because i got the wrong end of the stick. sorry randy!

True, there are far worse feuds and insult threads on Urban which I attend quite often. But it's one thing being insulted by obvious fuckwits, it's another thing arguing with someone in possession of a brain - much harder to dismiss.

Indeed I was, with reference to the rather loose use of various terms round here (racist, fascist, sexist etc) which have been called into question of late. I posted that in a rush and it could have done with a smiley. As Geoffery Bernard said, "an 'alcoholic' is anyone I don't like who drinks as much as I do". Ho hum.

And Fridge, yes. I also lurk on Urban and the level of hatered, threats and general trolling-as-fact-of-life there is, from the Barbiestandpoint, quite amazing.
