Grant: But that's not a paticularly Buddhist notion, and has roots in Greek though long before Gnosticism. The tension between stassis and flux was pretty much one of the first challenges addressed by the pre-Socratics, and Parmenides for one was, IIRC, pretty clear on the idea that change was an impossibility, and thus that any perception of change we may experience is an illusion. Plato's all over that shit, in a somehwat different way, also. |
