Grant: But that's not a paticularly Buddhist notion, and has roots in Greek though long before Gnosticism. The tension between stassis and flux was pretty much one of the first challenges addressed by the pre-Socratics, and Parmenides for one was, IIRC, pretty clear on the idea that change was an impossibility, and thus that any perception of change we may experience is an illusion. Plato's all over that shit, in a somehwat different way, also.

Well, yeah, it's not exclusively Buddhist, that's true - but it's a central idea to Buddhism.
The meditation and Buddhist prayers are techniques for getting through the illusion to the "real," which I'm sure is part of what would be sexy to a comics writer like Morrison.

There's something rather Buddhist about 'The Coyote Gospel' Animal Man issuse as well, with the Coyote taking on infinite suffering through infinite rebirths in order to save the world.
