Oh yes, we had them this week and the last one, lots of dead cows lying in the open country under the sky, no foot prints or vehicle signs nearby, in the provinces of La Pampa and Buenos Aires, here in Argentina.

Leaving only dry cauterized wounds, the salivary glands, eyes, ears, and external genitalia, had been excised in an apparently random selection -not all cows had the same parts removed. The images were simply amazing, obtained both from the places where the cows were found and from the necropsy room, with a disoriented veteriniarian describing the lesions and forced by a half-mocking media to deliver the hypothetical explanations.

I was going to post this in the Lab forum, but heck, this turns to be as scientific as psychic-reading. Additionally, whenever an alien ship decides at last to land in a public place and the greenies come to shake hands with the local guv'nors, it looks like they will be the first guys responding in court to serious charges of property damage, as the judge in charge of the mutilations has categorized the case.

Now, as I have never been much interested in the topic until last night, in front of the TV, when my abdominal muscles started trembling with zestful intrigue -an indication I have learned to recognise- I wanted to hear you people about it, and to bring my little questions.

- What is the current public status of such a phenomena in the rest of the world? Has anything been postulated that has gotten a fairly general acceptance?

- Are these things occuring periodically, in a stable pattern through time, or does there appears to be "seasonal" peaks through the years?

- Is there any place in the world where this is considered to be a somewhat normal thing to occur??

- I know there have been other paranormal phenomena reported in relation to the mutilations (mothmans? alien encounters?), but of all: which were the most commonly related? and are they always synchronistic with the mutilations?

- And, in short, does anybody here have a seriously crazy or deranged magickal explanation about this??

If anyone does have a good explanation, I'd love to hear it, too. I've got several of Linda Moulton Howe's books--she seems to have put the most mileage into looking into this sort of thing--but the closest to an understanding of the situation I've managed to come to is "someone (or something) is screwing with us in a very weird way.

someone (or something) is screwing with us in a very weird way.

Yeah, but then what can the cows say? Do you think of an "evil" intention to do harm and screw with us here? I sort of appreciate it as something rather cold with an unexplained and ungrasped intention from the frames we use to interpret.

And by the way, I do not buy that they are experiments or studies of the local fauna (a too anthropo-referential explanation), with all the pieces of organs they got from only one specie they should be quite done already, and even moved to other species... if that has not happened yet (sinister laugh echoes)

Hey, that happened about five years ago (maybe a little bit more) here in Mexico. It started from the north and repeated to the south in a way similar to the colective histeria generated by the mass media.
They blamed the chupacabras a supposed monster, many said it was an alien, others thought that it was a failed result from gringo bioexperimentation. I do not know, I never saw anything.
Ever read Planetary? they blamed it to the 4 and their experimentation

Argentina sends "X-Files" team to probe animal deaths

June 20, 2002 Posted: 0039 GMT
At least 70 animals were reported killed in recent weeks, some with their genitals and tongues pulled out with surgical precision surrounded by charred grass with no signs of blood stains. One horse's hoof had a circle drawn into it.

Psss...

bit hazy on this but years ago i read a theory that cattle mutilations occur in the vicinity of government nuclear/bio weapons testing sites, to see what the effect is on the wildlife (i used to have maps that 'proved' this, not sure where they are now). same theory states that so-called 'alien abductions' are part of the same thing. the examination rooms described in victims' accounts are remarkably similar to photos of 'secret' govt labs, and that the 'abducted' are given vague false memories of aliens to throw them off the scent.

I suggest we use the revelatory medium of the docudrama to shed some light on this:

A herd of cattle... a field full of cameras... a cold, inviting night sky... what happened next?

"It's nightfall on the farm, and already the cows are becoming unsettled..."

On another note, I tried to do a seach for your name, )+(, but all I could find was stuff on a puckered anus between two spread butt-cheeks. Please explain

Decomposition can indeed be a magickal process...I'm not too convinced there's much more to it than that.

Here is one rather skeptical viewpoint:

Once an animal is dead even for a short time, their blood will pool in the lowest part of the body, creating the appearance that the animal is bloodless. Scavengers will typically feast on the soft parts of the animals because they cannot get through the tough cowhide...Analysis of remains by veterinary pathologists detected typical signs of scavengers eating and clawing away the soft parts, as well as the normal decomposition and bloating which occurs after death. Comparisons were made with surgical wounds, and they were found to be distinct. Droppings and footprints of scavengers were also found around the remains of dead cattle, even when it was claimed by believers that no signs of scavengers were found.

And another:

Naturalistic explanations in terms of predators (skunks, buzzards, weasels, etc.), insects (such as blowflies), and birds are to no avail, even though the most thorough examination of so-called cattle "mutilations" concluded there was nothing mysterious that needed explaining (see the Rommel report). It is useless to note that insects and animals often devour the vulnerable mucous membranes and the softer parts of dead animals such as the genitalia, instead of trying to burrow through the cowhide. It is pointless to note that incisions to a carcass by the teeth of predators/scavengers often resemble knife cuts. It is of no use to point out that there is little or no blood oozing from the wounds because blood settles, the heart does not pump when an animal is dead, insects devour the blood that does spill out, etc.

I used to recur to Todd Carrolls Skeptic's Dictionary as a source of information, until I started to observe that even the raw data of events is transfigured to serve its "skeptical" purposes. For example, in the cattle mutilation entry he mentions that "No one has shown either that there are thousands of inexplicable animal deaths around the globe". I do not know about other cases, but here in Argentina we have at least 70 dead cows that the day before were happily munching grass under the Sun, not thousands of them.

Of course, "cattle ranchers" can acknowledge the death of cattle "on a regular basis" due to "what is known as "range death."", deaths that "occur from disease, snake bites, broken limbs, eating poisonous plants, and even lightening.", but the striking thing here is precisely the number of dead heads in just a few days, with no evident epidemy of anything, and if there was one, it wouldn't have killed 70 cows in a few weeks without anyone taking notice.

So, the naturalistic part here is being taught from Mr. Carrols' lap top at home to "cattle ranchers" who have lived among cattle practically since they are born and to graduated veterinarians that routinely perform animal necropsies, and who examine and vaccinate living animals everyday. I am pretty skeptic myself, but rather I prefer to use the term "evaluative" instead of "skeptic", as instances like this prove skeptics to be as much affectionate to data twisting and deletion as any good born church cleric.

I'm happy to agree with you there. But why are you looking for a Magickal explanation for this? Are you conflating "paranormal" with "magickal"? These two words don't quite mean the same thing. Although sometimes paranormal activities can be brought about by magickal acts, they don't necessarily occur together all the time.

Ur right Ierne, I take that paranormal activity is related to magick in the sense that magick can instigate it, but not necessarily always. I like to call it an "extensional" definition of magick.

So, who votes for the greenies? Or maybe rather angered crowleyites? Super powered ninjas anyone?

I'd really like to move this to the Lab, since it's clearly a paranormal/fringe science/ufology subject.

I will say I almost started a parallel topic in the Lab myself - my email inbox is positively cluttered with bulletins on bloodless cattle and horses in Argentina. Today: photographs of 16 mutilated sheep in Mexico. Apparently, some other livestock (guanaco) have also been zapped. The attacks, if that's what they are, seem to be spreading.

It's an interesting question, though, where the magickal model and the paranormal model intersect. I'd have to say the paranormalist firmly believes ze is widening the world of science, by offering rational, empirical proof of a phenomena, rescuing it from the "mire" of magickal thinking.

Personally, I'm more interested in the Jungian model you see at work with paranormalists like Jacques Vallee, who skirt that border of saying "it's all in their heads," without actually doing so. There's certainly a flavor of subjectivity to this stuff (*I* saw it!), and that influences the way the phenomena are framed in analysis & discussion.

Having said I'm fond of the magickal-psychological explanations for UFO/cattle mutilation/other paranormal events, I'm also pretty convinced that people have seen (and continue to see) flying "machines" of some sort, and that these "machines" (if that's the right word) have been responsible for doing things - physically - to people and animals.

I have a friend who's an engineer for a defense contractor. He works with lasers. He's told me the army has a laser first aid surgery kit (cuts and cauterizes!) that is about the size of a standard first aid kit (not big), and seems to be of the opinion that a bunch of guys flying missions over ranchland wouldn't be above pranking on the local farmers' animals to test their goodies. I dunno. It's something.

I've read the skeptical accounts of scavengers/parasites mimicking the "surgically precise" wounds of a paranormal mutilation, and I've read one rebuttal that sticks with me: ranchers know what dead animals are like. They kill cows all the time, but also have to deal with animals who die of frostbite, snakebite, disease, malnutrition, coyote attacks, all sorts of things. They're experts in the field of big animal corpses. And if they say it's freaky, then I tend to believe 'em.

Two monks are standing in the garden of the monastery, arguing over the nature of reality when the Roshi overhears them.

"Does that boulder over there exist independently, or is it just in your head?" he asks one of them.

"Well, I'd have to say that it's in my head," replied the monk.

"Your neck must be tired from holding your head up if you have a boulder that big in it," replied the master.

SENASA TO MAKE INITIAL REPORTS KNOWN
** The sanitary agency conducted investigations in the Pampan regions where the dead animals turned up**

The National Health and Agroalimentary Service (SENASA) shall release initial reports on its survey of the investigations conducted over the weekend in regard to mutilated bovine cases in various Pampan provinces. This comes from qualified spokespersons of the agency's director, Bernardo Cané, who personally toured the areas reported as epicenters for mutilated animals. From the start, when these strange mutilations first appeared, the province of Buenos Aires was the hardest hit, at locations so remote that it was necessary to cover long distances on all terrain pickup trucks and some stretches on horseback.

Subsequently, the phenomenon, which is still unexplained, took place in Rio Negro, Cordoba, Rosario and La Pampa, according to reports that reached Senasa. As a result of consultations with veterinarians and technicians in areas adjacent to the mutilation sites, the possibility that the events were related to predators or carrion animals was discarded, since the affected areas did not betray the presence of such carrion birds.

Surveys in hand, Bernardo Cané and a team of scientists--including three from the National Atomic Energy Commission--toured the regions and SENASA reported that this afternoon it will have an initial evaluation on the subject, although the official's collaborators said they had "no information" in this regard. It was only said that it was possible that it may be SENASA's own director who makes the serious situation known--a situation which has caused considerable losses to cattlemen and has given rise to fear among them and national authorites due to the mysterious way in which the events have developed.

UFOs AND MUTILATIONS AT SANTIAGO DEL ESTERO
A judge and police officers set off in search of the strange

The police precinct of Garza confirmed yesterday the discovery of a heifer with parts sectioned off. The event occured under unknown circumstances and the incisions resemble those now seen on a daily basis in the fields of the provinces of La Pampa and Buenos Aires.

The animal was found yesterday in a hilly region of a place known as Quimilioj in the department of San Martin by a local resident, Joaquin Lemos: "The cow apparently died two days ago and it was learned that some of its body parts were missing, apparently its eyes and udders," reported police and judicial sources to EL LIBERAL.

These spokesmen maintained that the event deserves the attention of officialdom since the initial inspections suggest that the animals death has been surrounded by "confusing circumstances".

"There appears to be no putrefaction and while carrion birds presumably approached the animal, they did not touch it," added the sources.

Meanwhile police from Precinct 38 of Garza maintained in its report to authorities in the capital that no tire tracks or footsteps were found near the animal, nor anything that could suggest the presence of cattle rustlers.

At the close of this edition, sources said that "taking these development into consideration, and in order to make the corresponding technical verifications, " Fifth Circuit Criminal Court Justice Dr. Jose Antonio Uñates will head out to the site in question. He will be accompanied by the chief of police, Sheriff Jose Tomas Lescano, and the veterinarian from the K-9 division, Eduardo Betbeder, chemical specialist of the Narcotics Unit, Roberto Adamo and personnel from the Institute of Bromatology of the province. Judge Uñates also requested the attendance of the presdient of the School of Veterinary Medicine of Santiago del Estero and Dr. Andres Miotti, a local UFO researcher.

Residents of the Santa Rosa de Lima neighborhood in the city's northern end contacted EL LIBERAL yesteday to inform that they have been witnessing for the past several nights--in concatenation with the sightings at Fernandez and Ojo de Agua--objects with strange lights in the direction of La Venacha, to the northeast of Santiago. The wave of rumors and UFO sightings are directly related to the appearance of mutilated animals and there are already specialists who point to the presence of "extraterrestrials" as the parties responsible for these acts.

In spite of the proximity of the city's airport , residents of the western sector of the city do not relate the strange lights with planes or helicopters which may be coming in for a landing, because "they remain motionless for several minutes in the air, or go up and down in a straight line before vanishing unexpectedly."

EL LIBERAL combed the neighborhood to collect accounts and although residents did not wish to make their names known, they ratified the presence of these lights "over several evenings." Jose Villalva, the owner of a local supermarket, stated that his customers are remarking on the presence of these lights in the sky while doing their groceries, while stating that he himself has not seen them.

A young man disclosed that a few weeks ago, at night, a group of police officers went into the wilderness behind the neighborhood to capture criminals and that the locals, whose curiosity had driven them to enter the area, saw several lights over the treetops that ascended and descended. They thought at first that the lights came from the policemens' flashlights, but they discarded the possibility immediately upon realizing the officers had gone and they were alone in the area. Since then, many people have returned to the site in the hopes of seeing what they call "UFOs".

A UFO Costs Residents of Fernandez Robles their Sleep

Fernarndez Robles (C)-- EL LIBERAL's exclusive related to the appearance of a UFO in this city between June 11-14 at different nocturnal hours regained strength yesterday due to a new sighting last Thursday around 21:00 hours. Numerous residents of the following neighborhoods: Norte, 12 de Octubre, Juan Domingo Peron, Camping, Roca and 102 Viviendas, among others "the Capital of Agriculture", claim having seen the luminous object.

On said occasion, Marcelo Coronel, a profesisonal mechanic living on Balcarse Street in Barrio Norte, witnessed--along with the light of the moon and strars--something similar to a "headlight surrounded by a red halo which increased and diminished in hue, and moved slowly from north to south without making any sound."

Coronel adds that since he was on his way to the Sportivo Club, he followed [the object] in his car "along old Route 34." Once he reached the stadium, he continued to witness it along with the Gallardo family "for over 20 minutes, until it became lost behind the treeline."

He further added that the event took place after 9:00 pm last Thursday. "On that day--he said--the wind was blowing northward, and for that reason I know the object wasn't a balloon. It moved opposite to the prevailing wind. Very slowly, as round as the size of a car wheel. It was possible to make out its colors clearly: intense white at its core (like a headlight) whith a red aura around it, changing shades of red."

Numerous residents of Fernandez claim having seen the phenomenon. A considerable number of rumors link this fact with the wave of unexplained bovine deaths and the emptying of numerous farm water tanks all over the country. "It is noteworthy that these lights should move over areas in which the wells and tanks of the new potable water system are located," adds Coronel.

Neighbors agree, pointing out that when they are seen, TV signals are interrupted or television sets shut themselves off without any interruption to the flow of electricity, or the sets change channels without the remote control having been touched, while dogs bark desperately without any apparent reason.

URUGUAY: First Report of Cattle Mutilations.

The discovery of a dead cow whose tongue, eyes and genitals were extracted in a livestock region of the Uruguayan interior has raised concern in the country. Officials have begun an investigation into the case.

The first case was reported today in the Department (province) of Durazno, some 300 km from Montevideo ande resembles cases which have occured in some Argentinean provinces.

Indentent (mayor) Carmelo Vidallin tried to cool down rumors by saying that "we must await the expert's verdict", referring to the Ministry of Livestock and Agriculture, which is working at the site.

"It is remarkable that an animal was slain for purposes other than eating it," said the mayor, adding that "there are many hypotheses, because matters are always worse in a small town."

No signs of blood or a struggle between the animal and its victim were found--a situation that adds mystery and feeds speculation among local residents.

For the time being, the possibility that obscure esoteric practices could be at work has not been rejected, since they are common throughout the country. However, the animals sacrificed in these rites have been chickens and hens.

Well, actually I started this there because if you meet an alien green dwarf believe me you'd rather prefer to get advise from a magickian than from a scientist. Anyway, if we strive to get a model of what they are (and where), or why these things happen, we will be sure borrowing intersecting notions from fringe science and magick.

Back to the topic, even if we consider that they are extracting some specific nourishment or substance from the cows organs, it would not fit easily also, because there is no evident pattern for the apparently random organ selection, unless of course they can "scan" the specimen to obtain the appropriate and most suitable organ to their ends. Things were definitely simpler in Predator.

Another observation I could not confirm is that the water placed in the most proximate tanks to where the dead cattle was found had vanished, the tanks were dried and empty, at least according to one report. Has anybody heard about this in other occurences of cattle mutilations?

I've never come across that in anything I've read, that I can remember.

Here's some more news, from Filer's Files:

CANADA EGG SHAPED LIGHT AND CATTLE MUTILATION

BRANTFORD -- At 3:20 AM on June 3, 2002, a very bright object appeared just south of URSA Major in the night sky. The bright object suddenly appeared and glowed very brightly and moved slowly southwest. The object was two or three times brighter than Venus and was a white/yellowish color. It stayed bright for only 4 seconds then faded to a point of light for another 15 seconds until it disappeared. There was no noise at all.

AURORA, ONTARIO -- The witness reports that on June 6, 2002, "We were sitting in the car and then out of no where, this greenish white egg shaped thing flew across the sky at 11:35 PM. It moved too slowly to be a shooting star, and too fast to be a plane, it soared downward to the ground, in almost a round line; like a semicircle. Thanks to NUFORC

MUTILATION -- This report of a mutilated six year old Charolais bull was reported to me by the owner and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. When I arrived, I very carefully assess the situation, walk the perimeter at hundred yards and all the area close to the animal etc. This I do to check for any tracks, odd smells, and anything unusual, like the behavior of the animals. This was an authentic mutilation, and one of the most interesting cases in the six years. This bull was lying in a small clump of Willow trees facing West. The tongue was removed as well as the left eye and left ear. The penis was sticking out, and the testicles and rectum were removed. On the stomach area was a very neat laser type incision, oval shape 14 inches by 9 inches. The skin was never found and the flesh had not been touched. The was also removed with the same precision. Samples of blood, soil and grass were taken Laboratory results show that only pure Hemoglobin remained and that very sophisticated equipment was needed to reduce the blood to only hemoglobin. This like doing Brain surgery in the kitchen with kitchen tools. Claudia Scheffer, another local, witnessed an intense light outside, while the lights in my house dimmed. The dogs were barking and I went out and saw a light in the sky, as did others. Thanks to fbelzil@telusplanet.net and SHnSASSY1@aol.com

ARGENTINA 200 ANIMAL MUTILATIONS

SALLIQUELÓ --*Doctor Daniel Belot, a SENASA Technician in Salliqueló, was the veterinarian who analyzed the first animal mutilation in the area. He has examined over a dozen cases for which he can find no explanation, and is disconcerted. He is convinced that the perpetrators arrived by aerial means and is certain that the animals were slain elsewhere and subsequently dumped in the field. He asks that all strange animal deaths be reported promptly. Dr. Belot, who is a technician for SENASA, claims having never seen anything similar and believes that only those who have seen any such case can understand the magnitude of the events. The expert has been asked to analyze over a dozen cases, and common patterns appear but no explanation can be found. The near-certainty that the perpetrator arrives by air, and the certainty that the deaths occurred 3 to 4 days earlier at a location other than where the carcasses were found only adds to the state of confusion. He is an acknowledged professional with a solid reputation and an official for a national delegation of SENASA. Dr. Belot urged cattlemen to report any anomalous case immediately to aid the investigations.

Dr. Belot was called in by a cattleman who found half his bovine skinned to the bone. Dr. Belt suggested some animal must have eaten it, which the cattleman rejected, saying that no animal eats in a straight line. Upon investigation, "I was confronted by an unnerving sight, "The animal lay on the ground, and the entire left side of its face was skinned to the bone beneath the eye. All of its molars were visible." "When we performed the necropsy we found that it was missing its tongue, vocal apparatus, there was no blood inside or outside the animal. It was perfectly clean with no tearing of the flesh like predators do. "It is a deed that appears to have been carried out by humans, but even so it's something very hard to do." Dr. Belot sent samples to the University of Buenos Aires' School of Pathology and the only response he received is that they cannot determine how the incisions were made. He did not establish the animal's cause of death, blood samples taken from other animals to detect strange substances "have yielded no results so far.

Dr. Belot, says vital organs were missing in most of them. "In the first case, the animal was missing all of its maxillaries, but others were missing testicles and penises, ears, mammary glands, rectums and vaginas. All of this suggest some kind of scientific research, but don't ask me why a scientist is going to conduct research in different farms without asking for permission. There were no tracks around the mutilated animals and strange for no other animal to come near. When Dr. Belot reached the animals many had been dead for 3 or 4 days. "In many cases they were not yet bloated and did not give off any odor. In others, they presented normal alterations, which increases the uncertainty." "The only marks I saw within a ten meter radius, is that the grass has continued to grow, but no animal will step into that circle, despite the fact that the grass is in good shape." Belot points out that "after some time, the dead animals have been attacked by predators. But until recently, they wouldn't come close." The veterinarian noted that generally the rest of the animals sort of "mourn" the deceased animal, but that has not occurred and they appear indifferent, looking from a distance without coming close." Belot emphasized, "The animals were killed elsewhere and dumped there, this is inferred by the way the carcasses have been positioned. Sheep and at least four horse mutilations have also been reported. These fields are often practically inaccessible; it was only possible to reach them on a tractor and it often necessary to cross flooded areas.

Santa Rosa -- Police officers claimed to have witnessed an UFO in the Pampan community of "25 de Mayo" and are looking into the possibility that UFOs have something to do with the dozens of mutilated animals found in the provinces of La Pampa, Rio Negro and Buenos Aires. The incident can be added to a similar event which occurred June 19, 2002, in the Las Leñas tourist complex of the province of Mendoza, where dozens of witnesses saw a UFO fly over. Thanks to Diario "Nuevo Día" (Coronel Suárez, Prov. of Buenos Aires) Scott Corrales, Institute of Hispanic Ufology. Translation (C) 2002. Special thanks to Gloria Coluchi.

Editor's Note -- Ranchers are sending their families to town, and keeping watch over their fields 24 hours a day. Various lights have been reported hovering above the fields. Large tanks of water holding thousands of gallons of water are found dry. Other reports have indicated that an underwater base exists off the coast of Argentina and craft are frequently seen entering and departing the ocean. Its possible these events could be connected. Mysterious U.S. Military Man Visits Senasa

While SENASA's inbox is receiving the most outrageous theories regarding the phenomenon of cattle mutilations, even employees are contributing strange versions and proposals. The authorities are overwhelmed and it was learned that a strange individual resembling the investigators on the popular TV show "The X Files" had entered the country as a reinforcement.

A researcher from the U.S. armed forces landed mysteriously at San Fernando in recent hours and could provide a new perspective on the subject, since SENASA's director, Bernardo Cane, is trying to find the solution in the similarities with cases in the United States. Cane says that he has not forsaken his scientific interpretations and suggests "agitators" as the culprits. The official does not believe that neither the "petiso orejudo" nor the "Pombero" [supernatural creatures of Argentinean folklore] , or even the Chupacabras, are involved.

EXPERTS SAY MUTES DYING "FROM MALNUTRITION"

LA PLATA (DIB) - No more talk of aliens, goatsuckers or ghosts. A report from the Universidad Nacional del Centro at Tandil contains a scientific explanation regarding strange bovine deaths in the provinces of Buenos Aires, Santa Fe, La Pampa and Rio Negro. The document states that the animals died due to a lack of food and their soft tissue was consumed by rodents and other carrion animals post mortem. The School of Veterinary Medicine of Universidad del Centro studied 13 cases involving dead and mutilated bovines in recent days. Four of these animals were found lying in fields less than 48 hours after dying. The results of tests on this group of bovines shed greater light: within the animals' remains and around their carcasses, researchers discovered fecal matter from rodents and other animals. The mutilation cuts and wounds had clear rodent tooth marks--the report explains that the cauterizing effect that caused so many theories over the days is caused as dead animal's flesh is exposed over time. The study promotes the belief that the animals died from their own weakness; analyses indicated that the animals were malnourished and showed Magnesium deficiencies, with the presence of parasites and metabolic shortcomings. The poor nutrition from the harsh winter pastures, and the climactic severity of recent days, would have brought about their deaths. Experts also account for the proliferation of rodents: they claim that the large amounts of mice are a result of new agricultural production methods, such as direct cultivation, for example. This method keeps chaff on the field's surface and provides an ideal habitat for these animals. The report, which has already been forwarded to the government of Buenos Aires, the national government and SENASA--which requested the study--bears the signature of the dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of UniCen, Alejandro Soraci, but was performed by an investigative team from said Faculty. Researchers also found blood and other liquids near the dead animal, and were further able to trap rodents which are being analyzed. The dead animals came from fields near General Dorrego, Tres Arroyos and Tandil. As a refutation of the rural legends which arose due to the multiplication of animal deaths throughout the territory, the University's document dismissed the presence of radiation near the mutilated carcasses, and also explained the absence of tracks in early cases since the carcasses were found many days after their deaths occurred. Over a hundred animals were found mutilated within two months in pasture fields of Buenos Aires, Rio Negro, La Pampa and Santa Fe. The similarity in the incisions, coupled to the lack of blood and tracks, gave rise to irrational conjectures, such as attributing the mutilations to extraterrestrial practices. Soon after the dead animal phenomenon was unleashed, there was a confrontation between the scientific and popular beliefs, with a slight preference for the latter, at least among rural dwellers. Now, the university assures that there is a rational explanation for the cases. (DIB).

Sounds interesting to me. Now, question is why in former necropsies the rodents bites were not identified, and if this would be extensional to instances in other countries. And why in hell are they analyzing the rodents? Do they suppose they found the teenage mutant ninja rats?

I guess they want to find out if the rodents have been eating a lot of meat lately. Maybe some of the tissue might still be in the rodents' stomachs, or something.

I can not translate the whole e-mail I received today, but now someone is blaming this on bees, a type of bee that nest on the ground, the "german bee", whatever that is, that of course feeds on dead animals among other.

This bee is called the "German Vespula", or "yellow jacket" bee, as I continue to read, and also feeds on fruits and other bees' honey. On winter, upon lack of honey, it becomes carnivore (!!!), attacking and bitting dead and diseased animals (bzzzzzzzzzzzz-niam-niam-bzzzzzzz-niam-niam-bzzzzzzz-niam-blerp!). The micro-bites give the appearance of cauterized flesh to the wounds. Of course, they leave no signs on the ground, and they also segreggate some feromones that keep other rapacious from feeding on the same animal (for me, this bit is the farthest stretch).

These bees were introduced during the 80's to Argentina and Chile, apparently becoming a plague in urban settings. Locals and tourists entertaining themselves in the open became upset and worried while under attack of the bees and noticing their predilection for asado (the traditional barbecued red meat we eat here). They are also affectionate to open wounds in both humans and animals. What I do not find as fitting on this is that the whole colony dies on winter, surviving only the mother queen, ready to form new colonies on springtime (the mutilations took place here during a quite unsual wave of artic cold). There follow some disgusting details on their feeding habits common to other bees, worthy of a gory sci-fi movie.

The most threatend activity by these yellow winged buzzing girls is apiculture (they attack other bees and eat their honey, as said above), and also fruit-culture. They are even dangerous to workers collecting fruits. When particulalry aggresive they may leave just the cherry pit hanging in the tree. Massive attacks on humans usually have bad consequences (what would you expect anyway). Tourism is also affected. If you are eating asado on the open, it is recommended that you carefully check what you are putting in your mouth, because they stand on meat and are not easily frighten, and you really wouldn't like one of these carnivore girlies buzzing around inside your own guts.

To keep cool, the e-mail also mentions that "their nechrophagic habits make then cohabitate with humans inurban settings, feeding on wasted or unprotected food". Incidentally, this does explain some odd bee sightings I made when I was a child.

All this is derived from a report from the INTA (National Institute of Animal and Farming Husbandry Technology) and I infer is intended to keep the population calm and at ease, no matter what the heck is that thing flying and buzzing around your dishes. I have not translated the paragraph on how to sadistically eradicate the nests by flooding them with gasoline or poison, and mentioning that there exists recommended trap fabricated by the very INTA, that prevents the bees from escaping and nesting somewhere else. But who would want to harm this furry cutty girls after all?

Yellow jackets!

Nonsense. Yellow jackets are as common as dirt around here (West Coast, USA). While they certainly will go for decaying meat, if they were in the habit of devouring large portions of dead animals wholesale, we'd have had some inkling of it.

For those living in climes happy enough not to be familiar with this wee monster, the "yellow jacket" is a sort of wasp or hornet that builds its nest in the ground, whose numbers are most pronounced in hot weather and whose appetites (beyond the odd decomposing guanaco) extend to rotting fruits and sweet stuff in general. They have the pleasant habit of exuding a potent pheromone when crushed which is guaranteed to raise any other yellow jackets in the vicinity to a state of murderous glee.

Bee sting to defend themselves and their own. Wasps will sting you just for the sheer fun of it. Any proposal of a benevolent deity would have to (to satisfy me) have some explanation for wasps, the psychopaths of the insect world...

Subject: Argentina: Residents Blame Mutes on "Red Magic"

RESIDENTS OF LA CHIQUITA BLAME ANIMAL MUTILATIONS ON "RED MAGIC"

SAENZ PEÑA (Agencia) " This is a matter of "Mandinga". No animal can die that way, it didn't scream, something weird is going on," said Maria Eusebia, referring to the strange case involving a mutilated horse missing an eye, its tongue and its anus. It was found by residents of La Chiquita, located some 8 km, east of Presidencia Roque Suarez, located on National Route 16.

Stories received yesterday regarding this event made evident the consternation felt by local residents, who point out that these events "are the work of practitioners of red magic."

On the night of the alleged animal mutilation, "the dogs slept like bears and didn't bark, despite the fact that they slept right next to the horse," added Maria Eusebia.

Daniel Acuña, who happened to pass that location on his way to work in the early morning hours, claims having seen red lights over some trees on many occasions, "like an evil light, which I was told are those who practice red magic."

The event, as was indicated yesterday, occured over a month ago, adding to the mysterious mutilation of more than 60 animals found in the provinces of La Pampa, Rio Negro and Buenos Aires, but the case was only made known on Friday, after the horse had been buried. "They took out its eye completely, but there was no bleeding. They also took out its tongue and anus, but there was no blood on the ground, nothing at all," said Emilia Lopez, another resident of the ranch in which Agustina Torres, the horse's owner, also lives. Torres "in order not to suffer, since she misses [the horse] so much, went off to Quitilipi," said locals.

In the property where the mutilation took place, located some 8 km of Saenz Peña, almost on the tracks of the Belgrano Railroad, there are several neighboring ranch dwellings, in which the horse--named Dominga by the local children--"was like a pet."

"He was tame, good, young and had just grown out of colthood, " said Adriana, a young girl saddened by the horse's fate. "But doña Agustina Torres became ill, because that was the horse with which would pull her cart to seel firewood and coal in town. She won't be able to feed herself now, " she adds.

One of the woman's children, Diego Torres, is still amazed: "It's not normal. We buried him because here in the countryside we know nothing about the Chupacabras that the TV talks about. But the incisions were perfect--there was no blood, and if [the perpetrators] were human, the horse should have whinnied a little, beacuse it's not going to let its tongue be cut out. It's also weird that the dogs didn't bark, either."

The animal's owners and neighbors cannot find an explanation to the event "because we have seen other animals die of old age or disease, but never like this, without screaming or bleeding." For this reason, some women did not hesitate to assign the event to "practitioners of red magic," in their own words.

SENASA PRESS RELEASE

OFFICIAL REPORT REGARDING INJURIES AND MUTILATIONS TO BOVINE CARCASSES

The National Health and Agroalimentary Quality Service (SENASA) made known today the report entrusted to the Universidad Nacional del Centro (UNICEN) in Tandil, which concludes that the studies performed on dead and mutilated animals have established that the deaths were the result of natural causes and the injuries were provoked by predators, among them a rodent of the genus Oxymcterus
known as the "hocicudo rojizo" (red muzzle) whose population has recently increased and whose nutritional habits have changed.

The report points out that the deaths of 20 animals studied, taken from livestock facilities in the Buenos Airean districts of Olavarría, Tandil, Tres Arroyos, Coronel Pringles, Coronel Dorrego and Balcarce are due to "natural causes and can be attributed to metabolic or infectious diseases which occur frequently this time of year," according to UNICEN's chancellor, Dr. Néstor Auza.

Auza participated in a press conference at SENASA's headquarters, headed by its president, Bernardo Cané, along with Alejandro Soraci, dean of the School of Veterinary Sciences of UNICEN, Ofelia Tapia, a toxicologist with the School of Veterinary Sciences of UNICEN, and Ernesto Odriozola, a technician with the Animal Production Department of INTA-Balcarce.

The conclusions reached by these studies dismiss the possibility of radiation, as well as narcotics, at the locations where the animals studied were found, according to technical reports from the schools of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and Pharmacy and Biochemistry of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), which also participated in the analyses.

The report points out that "it was ascertained through direct observation, and under a stereoscopic magnifying glass, that the lesions on the animals' hide and organs were produced by predators" such as rodents and foxes.

The absence of special elements in the incisions (heat-cauterization) was further shown by means of histological tests.

Field observations confirmed "the presence of rodents around the carcasses, inside the carcasses, and at the moment that animal tissue was ingested." Some of these rodents were trapped and subjected to laboratory testing, where they showed "a particularly voraciousness for the organs provided" in the experiment.

The characteristics of the rodents correspond to a species that is little developed in our environment, belonging to the genus Oxymcterus, but which has proliferated of late, as well as foxes, according to information recorded in previous studies by UNICEN's fauna and biology group.

The report concludes that "there can be no doubt that a series of environmental, management and production factors have been present and which have impacted the ecosystem in different ways, causing evident imbalances among species, as well as in their habits."

The observations made by technicians made it possible to see that the animals studied presented, in general terms, injuries that followed a common pattern: strong association between the presence of lesions and natural cavities such as mouths, ears, mammary glands, rectums, vulvae and in exceptional cases--if the animal had been dead for a longer period of time--the abdomen.

In order to secure additional information, newly-dead and unmutilated animals were placed at selected locations to study predator action, confirming that the lesions produced were exactly the same as those found on the rest of the animals studied and which had been found dead.

Cané noted that "at the start of the study, we did not discard the possibility of human involvement, but it has been proven that there was none because of the lack of narcotizing elements. It was also proven in recently slain animals that the incisions are not so precise as the are serrated, and the studies tell us that the animals died of natural causes and not due to provoked attacks," adding at the same time that "all public agencies concur in this assessment."

The official added that "the most recent dead and mutilated animal cases were involved with the greatest degree of rigor. This is definite proof. This is what was proven."

Moreover, Dr. Tapia noted that "the rodents' diet is normally based on worms and bugs, but there has evidently been a change in this habit due to the lack of insects and worms. We are thinking that there is a modification in the normal fauna populations of the "red muzzle", but the explanation as to why these rodents changed their dietary habits forms part of a much larger study."

The studies and analyses that contributed to the drafting of the final report were handled by an interdisciplinary team composed of researchers from various scientific and public specialty institutions at the national level, and received cooperation from professionals in the private sector.

The schools of Veterinary Medicine and Mathematics of UNICEN, the INTA-Balcarce, the schools of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and Pharmacy and Biochemistry of the University of Buenos Aires also participated in the studies. There was also an exchange of information with the schools of Veterinary Sciences of the Universities of Río Cuarto, Cordoba and General Pico, La Pampa

Oddly enough, the National University at Rio Cuarto is not convinced by the official government explanation....:

SENASA Explanation Found Unconvincing in Río Cuarto

Río Cuarto. Researchers at the Universidad Nacional De Rio Cuarto reiterated yesterday that the calf found mutilated yesterday in Berrotarán presented "clean incisions" in its hide, thus discarding any attacks by predators.

They admitted in this case that "in principle, the conclusions applied by SENASA cannot be applied," referring to the University of Tandil's report which fingered the red-muzzled mouse (oxymycterus rufus) as the principal culprit in the cattle mutilations.

Jaime Polop, a specialist in Rodent Ecology with the National University of Rio Cuarto, stated that the presence of this type of mouse is "minimal" in the southern provinces and expressed doubts regarding the possibility that this animal is the key to unlocking the natiowide mystery.

Polop is an associate professor of Natural Sciences in the School of Mathematics, has 22 years experience as a tenured researcher at UNRC ahd has spent over 24 years studying rodents. He declared that while the red-muzzle mouse is omnivorous and feeds on vegetable and animal organic matter, it is "very rare" that it should consume carrion. "The information from the Univ. of Tandil is the first we've received regarding this type of behavior by oxymycterus. There is no scientific background information in this regard," he said with caution.

Without wanting to dispute SENASA's report, Polop limited himself to saying that in the globality of cases registered in the country there could be different cases for the mutilations. Polop did address, however, the subject of the sheer number of rodents which would have been needed to produce the lesions found on the cows and rejected the possibility that these mice could produce clean incisions in the hides of other animals to feed on them. "The oxymycterus has chisel-shaped teeth, and it is impossible for that type of dentition to produce clean cuts on animal hides. It's bite is similar to any mouse chewing through would, which would never be mistaken for a surgical implement," he defined.

He also noted that the muzzled mouse "is not a predator": "Normally, when a predator such as a fox begins [by eating] the entrails, it continues to feed from the same open wound. To find lesions on the mouth, abdomen, and anus, and to see this pattern repeating itself, draws my attention considerably," added Polop.

Meanwhile, another mutilated bovine, missing eyes and genitals--characteristics similar to other finds in other provinces--was discovered late yesterday in the town of San Pedro, Department of Santa Rosa, 150 km from the provincial seat.

The National Health and Agroalimentary Service (SENASA) confirmed that "a Commission is working in the area to determine the discovery of a mutilated bovine animal."

Thanks for your rigorous and timely feeding to this thread Grant, you should know how I am enjoying and circulating these pieces of info here.

A curious thing is that part of the population is sternly convinced that these are government maneuvers to distract media attention so they can continue to do their nasty political doings... as if they ever had needed such a thing to do so!

By the way, I would like to point that there was a sismic movement about two weeks ago, starting in Chile and reaching our eastern coast, somewhat simultaneous with the start of the mutilated cattle findings. I guess there are other UFO related phenomena occuring beyond cattle mutilations, as they have been related to sismic activity, but I haven't searched much. And please lets not undig those endless reports about "odd lights zigzaging in the sky", I prefer to read about the "real" encounters.

Well, I found some answers to the above at UFO ROUNDUP Volume 7 Number 26 June 25, 2002.

In short, it announces that HORSE MUTILATIONS BEGIN IN ARGENTINA and that UFOs PROWL THE NIGHT SKIES OVER ARGENTINA.

I'll try to make a round up of all this stuff tomorrow.

I am sort of tired, so I do not really care that on Number 27 July 2, 2002 of UFO ROUNDUP its announced that CATTLE MUTILATIONS SPREAD TO URUGUAY, while MUTILATION COUNT HITS 170 IN ARGENTINA and FIRST SHEEP MUTILATION OCCURS IN ARGENTINA. Hell, and MUTILATION SCARE CLAIMS WILD ANIMALS, TOO (a guanaco, small llama) and UFOs (were) SIGHTED IN TWO PROVINCES OF ARGENTINA.

Is this supposed to stop, or end in some sort of revelation, big discovery or anything? Or maybe I have not been paying attention? Should we expect it to end by 2012? Is anybody going to say all these news are crap? I also wonder if reports from contactees are going to start coming up also, and if therapists we'll have to take care of them.

That's it for this week. Join us in seven days for more UFO, Fortean and paranormal news from around the planet Earth, brought to you by "the paper that goes home--UFO Roundup." See you then!

Yep. That's the spirit. Seeya tomorrow.

Yikes!! NOW I am freaked out! Last night I saw again on TV impressive images of the mutilated cows, because most media here was debunking that "official" thing about the blamed mice. It just happens that the lessions in the jaw, that excissed the salivary glands, took away part of the inferior jaw bone as if it had been cut with a very sharp and precise instrument, and mice simply cannot do that.

Don't throw up now, please, becase next new images that circulated the country were of the blamed mice in the open field entering the cows carcasses to feed themselves, obviously through the lession left in the back, that exposes the cow's bowel. Also, for the sake of confirming the official stand, mices were shown in a lab eating entrails of the cows.

I guess this butcher frenzy of exposing Mickey Mouses touring inside dead cows and feasting on their organs is a strong push and bet to support the official version, quite comprehensibly, because the public needs some positive feedback (which is supposed to be stabilizing) from an authority, or at least from a portrayed authority on the topic, no matter how far reached it may be. Problem is that the media was bombarded with opinions from other experts and people in the country that plainly disregard the mice theory, which of course is a negative feedback, increasing "turbulence" and making the whole thing more un-fittable to whatever standards you try to make it fit.
