Just finished GTA3 on the PS2! Dead chuffed. Cracking open Max Payne next, but I quite fancy the new Medal of Honour, and with the world cup on, I'm tempted to indulge my football fantasies and sort out somewhere to play Champinship manager (I know! Its dull and is basically a spreadsheet, but its football!).

Playing Advance Wars on my spanking new Gameboy, also. Reminds me of Battle Isle and Historyline on my old Amiga. Dupre, what bit are you stuck on?

Is the ending any good on GTA3? I'm kind of stuck on the level where you have to lead all the cars into an ambush. I keep meaning to have a proper attempt to complete it but I end up just mucking around, like stealing the Dodo and trying to fly

Just chucked a rocket into the subway station (Deus Ex)... got a right bollocking cos apparently there were, like, some civilians in there... now I can't even remember where the soda machine is... and I have the kiosk nanokey but for some reason can't open the lock...

Ragnarok Online looks fun. It's really too bad the client program is 215 mb.

I'm not very good at this whole hostage saving thing. I snuck in the open window of the 'ton and the two hostages were killed. Then there was the bum and the two NSF thugs. I put a gun right to one guy's head and blew him away. Of course, the other guy saw that and wasted the bum. Currently, I'm on a rooftop somewhere sniping targets.

I just walked down the stairs, not too far because there's lasers and took and the guys with the sniper rifle, you can then get into the subway through air vents, the entrance is in one of the little huts.

I was playing it at the weekend, I'm exploring Hong Kong.

hmmm...lots of games lately...

Finished Resident Evil for GC yesterday, put Silent Hill 2 away for a good while.

The new Bond for GC is good for the 4 player head to head, though it lacks the feel and excitement of the N64 one...just too much of the same stuff.

Wipeout Fusion is out tomorrow for PS2...think that'll be the next one to get / play.

And as said before...running MAME for games like Deadly Discs of Tron, Klax, etc. is bonus. Thinking of all of the quarters I'm saving every time I add credits by tapping the number 3 on the keypad...

I've wanted to find a copy of the origional GTA for some time. It was set in the 60's, looked really Mod and had an early Ska soundtrack for the gameplay. For some reason, it didn't sell well and It's kinda hard to get a hold of.

this was actually an add on for the PS1 GTA game. I may still have it somewhere, or you could look for it on a PC playstation emulator.
If your PS is hacked to play pirated games i could send you a copy if i find it.

What i found worked best for me in the Subway in Deus Ex was creeping through the floor lvl vents, getting behind something and taking out the flame thrower guy first with a stealthy headshot, then going ballistic on the rest of the guys.

I took care of the subway by going halfway down the stairs and taking out as many people as I could that way. Then I went back to the vents and dropped from the ceiling and took out the rest of the people. How many people were there to rescue? 2! 2!

Now I'm looking for the helipad and the ambrosia since Paul seems to have screwed up big time. Back at UNATCO I kept getting stuff about this firefight in front of the 'ton. What firefight? I was never witness to a firefight.

How about The Getaway, its looking like it could be pretty good - I can't find any links because all game related sites are banned at work but it sounds pretty much like GTA3 but its set in modern day London (its meant to look spot on)....

I had a look at the Play website and Grand Theft Auto Vice City, is number 3 in their top sellers and its not out until the end of the year, should be fun though GTA3 Miami Vice style...

Thanks for the info on GTA, Elijah D. I guess the concept looks alot better than the gameplay. Too bad...

And speaking of addictive games, is some version of Bomberman available for Game Boy Advanced? Or Lolo? Or Sobokan(sp?)? Or Mega Man? Or ther really addictive Dr. Mario? If they get those for GBA & I'll gladly buy one.

There is a Bomberman game available for GBA, but it has a nasty RPG section and I found it highly uninteresting. If you're interested in pure puzzle stuff, try Kuru Kuru Kururin... it's weird, but really addictive.

I recently played Advance Wars, though, which is superb - simple, addictive, fun, and much like portable Battle Isle...

I'm not giving the ending of GTA3 away, Bear! It'll spoil it! What's the name of mission you're stuck on? Is it the one where you have to use the Dodo?

I'm up for Bomberman on the GBA. Is it any good? I'd be more interested in the multiplayer aspect....

There was no firefight. I remember the first time I played that map there were all these NSF guys with assault rifles going after the UNATCO guys. I died because when I got to a roof I tried to jump across to the roof of the next building over, matrix-style and didn't quite make it. When I reloaded there was no firefight.

It doesn't matter what they think of me now that I'm in Hong Kong.

I am also playing London, although I keep on getting stuck at the part where I'm trapped in cenbtral London at a train station where the trains have styopped running. There's no cash machine and I have no change for the phone. And even worse, if there was a cash machine I wouldnt be able to get change for the phone and even if I did have change for the phone, I don't know the number of the Taxi people.

Old readers of Commodore Format are now, no doubt pissing themselves with laughter right now while the rest of you are staring at the screentotally freaked...

Damn you all, I saw Deus Ex for a tenner in a shop yesterday, bought it, and played it until rather later than I intended, when I really needed some sleep. (At least I was awake when I got an important phone call later though. See! Computer games can be socially responsible!)

Short rant. When I reinstalled Windows, everything stopped working. I had to dig out and reinstall every last third-party driver because, guess what, Windows doesn't tell you shit. And in fact I discovered last night that the chipset itself... didn't come with any drivers! Even though it says that it does! Because they preinstall them! And so nobody ever notices! Except if something goes wrong, and then they pay for tech support because they can't fix it themselves!

so I managed to find the right drivers on the net, and I eventually got sound. But I'd just like to emphasise the point that Windows is a pig to reconfigure and install, people just think that it's simple because the manufacturers do it for them, try doing anything apart from putting in the simplest PnP widget and you'll see. Thank you.

Linux found my sound without me even asking it to, and configured everything perfectly.

Well, if I had the money and a fast enough computer to run it on, you'd better believe that I'd be playing Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos. Which isn't as great a name as Slayer's "Reign In Blood", but hey, I'm sure it kicks much ass. It just came out today, so smoke 'em if ya got 'em, kids....

Y'know, I don't get it. Never have. Warcraft and all it's ilk never seem to innovate. Once you've played one, you've played them all. Village centre, three different resources to collect, create workers, collect resources, create army, destroy opponent, win. They all follow exactly the same template. I was bored after the two training missions.

I never saw the appeal of Real Time Strategy games. I have two and I've never finished either one and frankly I have no intention of finishing them. The first one I got was Command And Conquer: Red Alert. It had a good story. I played up until the fifth mission, got bored and uninstalled it. I then got Warcraft 2. Played for awhile got bored, turned on cheats, and sent my ravening horde of orcs to slaughter the humans.

Warcraft 3 looks pretty and from what I've heard the focus is more on single hero units and the like. I've heard it's a bit more rpgish since you can gain levels and new abilities.

If I hadn't just obtained a playstation 2, I might have taken a look at it. Right now I'm having too much fun playing dark cloud and Lunar: EBC.

A couple of people have mentioned GTA3 on the PC, although I'm curious as to how well it runs. I've heard nasty rumours that the port across from console wasn't done that well, and that the game is a tad slow and unresponsive on all but the best of systems...

Like I say, mine's currently a 733 P3 with 384MB RAM and a GeForce 2 MX/MX400 graphics card. Unfortunately, that system spec's far too low to run any of the new or upcoming games properly. GTA3 is terribly jerky on any resolution above 800 X 600 and just about playable on that, provided I turn the draw distance and everything else right down.

Ahh, the joys of PC gaming. I haven't been able to finish Deus Ex since I last upgraded, due to incompatibilities between the Unreal engine and GeForce 2 cards.

Trijhaos> I've just picked up Z - Steel Soldiers cheap. It's RTS without the resource management (cash is generated depending on how many territories you're holding) and supposedly plays like a cross between Command & Conquer and a game of CTF in Quake III. Haven't installed it yet, but the first Z game was far more enjoyable than other RTS, with more emphasis on actual tactics than the genre usually manages, so you might want to give this a try.

An RTS game without the resource management? Nifty. I picked up Myth 2 about a month ago and that's basically what it is. The difference between normal RTS games and it has everything to do with resources. You don't build towns or mine for gold or anything like that. You're given a set amount of troops and as they survive through the different campaigns their rank is raised. Once one of them dies, that's it; they're gone for good. It's a game that really places an emphasis on the strategy part of RTS games.

I should probably finish Deus Ex. I just got past the mansion in Paris and from what I understand there really isn't all that much left.

I just got Morrowind for my X-Box....and you know, I may never leave the house again.

Got Deus Ex, can't get it to play on my computer...got so frustrated that I just gave up and started playing an old RPG I got in a $9.99 2-pack, Septerra Core. So far (about 10 hours in) it's better than I thought and DAMN good for bargain software.

Right now I'm playing GTA3 (well, not right now, but...), and I've been noodling around with SSX Tricky. I also have a copy of Fatal Frame, but I haven't gotten very far because it's too damn creepy - I can't play for much more than a half an hour before I have to turn it off and watch Powerpuff Girls to calm down. (And before you call me a pussy, I loved Silent Hill 2, which was pretty damn frightening in it's own right. I'm not sure why Fatal Frame affects me so badly.)

I've managed to progress a little in GTA3, can anyone tell me if I'm close to finishing it, the 3 missions available are either destroying the coffee huts things, or taking the guy in the park to the airport. I'm sure for the airport one you have to use the tunnels but I can never make it.

SSX Tricky, I hired that out months ago I should really buy it, I'm not usually a fan of snowboarding games but it really is a good laugh.

Deus Ex, I just met Tracer Tong, plodding along nicely.

It'll soon be time to restart FFX though...

Just finished Jedi Knight II, which has some FANTASTIC moments, some SHIT moments, and the ending's underwhelming. But Bespin, the Cairn, the Doomgiver, and the end of Nar Shaddaa when you (spoiler) meet the first Reborn are great. As is the opening, which is quickly forgotten when you get the lightsaber, but it's worth noting that the shooting bits are superb. There's just one bit near the end that should be brilliant and it turns out tedious. Grr. Still, most enjoyable.

Oh, and I finished Tekken Advance. With only two characters and four continues. And many Nina multi-part throws. It's quite fun, but not exactly brilliant...

And now, either I-War 2 or Deus Ex. When I'm not working.

I realised on Tuesday I'd been playing too many games when (and this is all absolutely true):
I'd been working overnight on Monday, and as an insomniac, had various (rare) periods of sleep on Tuesday afternoon.
During which I dreamt:
1) I was in Deus Ex, shooting stuff (not too much detail I remember in that one).
2) I was in Half-Life, in one of the tunnely bits, and the mice from Bagpuss all lived in the ceiling, so I had to use the crowbar to rip up the carpet on the floor above and pull it down so the mice could travel between levels (now that one was a bit weird).
3) I was running round Castle Wolfenstein shooting Nazis.

I was disappointed I didn't get to dream about being a Jedi, though (JK2 being the other game I'm playing at the moment). Bah and humbug.
