well this is what they say:
"The Invisibles: The upcoming book "Anarchy for the Masses" (Madyak Press) has revealed that the upcoming film adaptation of Grant Morrison's comic will be based on the second half of the comic volumes which is set in America in order to avoid "The Matrix" comparisons."

I would have thought that the american storyline would promote MORE comparisons to the matrix?

Yo e-n, welcome back! Where ya been, man?

nah, they'll just focus on the 1st Dulce mission. Maybe they'll do the torture of King Mob in flashback?

Plus, doing it in America means they can swipe away any Matrix comparisons by having Mason voice them before the critics can....

I've mostly been in the comics.....and working. No time these days.
Gridley:
Yeah that would be cool, if they just start the movie on the matrix bandwagon and subvert the meme back to where it came from?

The Invisibles would work better as a TV series, but a lot of stuff would not be permitted (language, content) unless it was on cable, which would have budgetary restrictions, then a movie is better anyway. I'm volatile today.

I'm just rereading some of them now.

One thing I've always felt, as a man of limited memory retention, is that Morrison is much more digestible when the issues are read back to back. I would tend to forget the minutae of the last issue by the time I read the next, especially with Invisibles but even with his xmen run. Like I said, limited memory retention. So for me at least, a movie will be a better medium than a series.

As much as I'd love to see the whole thing played out in painstaking detail. It would have to be on HBO or Showtime anyway . . . too much boobage for prime time.

An HBO INVISIBLES series could be great!!! or NOT...

Same with a Movie I suppose...

What will the cast be like now?

i will play everyone, it wont matter that i cant act and stutter, since it will be so tru to the comic i will have speach balloons!!!

Well, obviously King Mob wll be played by Nicolas Cage.

Really?

Me, I'd have thought Jason Statham...

[adopts down-to-earth Yorkshire accent] Invisibles movie, my arse. I'll believe it when it's showing down the Roxy..

ROT jason stratham is credited as playing HIMSELF in THE ONE, as is the rest of the cast, was this a docudrama and i somehow missed it?

While I don't think it's in the timeframe necessary for the film mentioned, I think that Jeremy Beadle as Quimper would be perfect.

KING MOB: how about a bald Daniel Day Lewis... or better yet, Julian Sands... he's certainly in need of a comeback

And for Robin?

Nikole Kidman or Jennifer Jason Leigh???

Ohhh, I think it's such a bad idea. Even if it does get made (and right now I'm standing outside the Roxy with Rizla looking skeptical) it won't be even one little smidgen as good as the comic. Have you learnt nothing from From Hell? A piece of crap that infuriates fans of the source material by skimming over all of the ideas that made it interesting and in no way succeeds in "spreading the word" (the reaction of most ordinary punters being "Oh really? Is there a comic version of that?"). And why the hell does a great comic need to be validated by being adapted for the cinema anyway?

elijah, you clicked on "Jet Li is The One" at imdb, the docu that comes on the dvd; it's listed seperately on the actors' pages and has that disorienting effect...

I think the Invisibles would translate a lot better to film than say, From Hell, but I don't think they should retell a story from the comic. The Invisible are much more flexible than that. Why not write an original script wholly for the movies.

If it's half as good as Donnie Darko I'll be happy.

On the topic of 'who should play King Mob?' how about Robert Carlyle, who is actually a good actor and Scottish (which I've always assumed KM was).

Personally, I'd have focused the movie on Jack's story arc throughout vol 1, ending with the banishment of the King of All Tears and the dark hints that they really accomplished nothing. Its a great place to end off to tease for sequals

And for Robin? Nikole Kidman or Jennifer Jason Leigh???

Y' know, I'd been thinking of Nicole Kidman, but decided she was on the skinny, intense side.... I likewise think Julian Sands is a little too ferret-ish to play KM.

(Kidman would make a kickass Miss Dwyer, though!)

Carlyle was terrific in Ravenous, but he didn't strike me as being physically...imposing, I guess.

Nothing an intense workout regime can't fix.

How about Lord Fanny and Jack (He needs to be able to pull off "fucking moron" without coming across as annoying as Anikin. There needs to be an endearing quality about him... I mean he is the Buddha.)

No, he's the fucking Buddah. Can't forget that.

Someone a long time ago suggested Jude Law as KM. I kind of like that one.

Ever see TrainSpotting?
how about that kid "sickboy" as Jack... Charismatic???

No Clue as to who would make a good Fanny??? off the cuff thought would be the actor from the Crying Game I'm sure there better.

Ever see Passion in the Desert? how about that dude for KM.. though I can sort of See Carlyle as well...

Still wondering on the Ideal ROBIN...

and what about Jim Crow?

The Strobe

Jim Crow???

Easy, IMHO.

Luis Guzman.

Trust me. Not so sure about Jaye Davidson as Fanny, though....

Live-action?

Pffbbbt. Animation is the way to go. Then there wouldn't be any worries in trying to find actors that look like the comic characters. You'd just need to find voices to fit the characters.

Guzman? Bah. I want to see either Busta Rhymes or Jeffery Wright play Jim Crow. Jeffery needs a breakout role.

I'd definitely go for John Leguizamo (sp) for Lord Fanny, maybe Jada Pinkett for Boy and, for those UK soapheads out there, how about Tinhead from Brookside as Jack?

Re: Robert Carlyle - he can certainly do imposing (see Begbie in Trainspotting, Reynard in that Bond flick.)

sickboy/Zero cool from Hackers would make a pretty good jack i think, dont know what he looks like now..oh wait, he was in drac 2000, yeah, he could still pull it off.

Leguizamo as fanny could work, they would need a way to make him taller though...

Sir Miles?--one of the conspiracy people from the XFILES movie and TV, the old guys who cant decide whether to kill mulder or not.

KM is a hard one though...

bear, we are soooo on the same page. Leguizamo as Fanny. Pinkett as boy.

Now, everyone's mentioning Trainspotting, but why not Ewan McGreggor as King Mob. I've always thought that he would be perfect at it. He's Gideon, Kirk, and King. He's multidimensional.

Anyone currently acting is probably already too old for Dane. He should be an unknown.

Whoever plays Robin has to be able to pull of the line: "Hi, I'm Ragged Robin. I'm nuts." And that's no small order.

Jamie Bell, from BILLY ELLIOT. Skeevely-looking working-class ratboy who can dance like a motherfucker: that's our Dane.

It had occurred to me that if Ewan Macgregor were still the age he was when "Trainspotting" came out, he'd make a good Dane...

King Mob: Daniel Day-Lewis*
Jack: Charlie Hunnam
Boy: Alfre Woodard
Robin: Dina Meyer*
Fanny: John Leguizamo

If they make a movie it should be an all-new story.
What did people think of the TV scripts?

* These are GM's choices according to "Anarchy for the Masses"
