X-Men 2 - can this be true?

Kelly Hu ("The Scorpion King") is gonna be in it as Anne Reynolds. It's been said that 1) she's going to be a villain & 2) the fact that Hu is Asian leads me to believe that her character becomes Lady Deathstrike.

Alan Cumming? as in:

Oh that is so very fabulous! And he can act!!!

AW YEH!!!!!

There goes $10 of my hard-earned dosh...

I was going to say no one tell Ierne or she will expire of anticipation. Too late.

I'm with Flyboy and the rest, Alan Fucking Cumming! What were they thinking? He was fair to middling in Titus I suppose (good film, bloody good film] but that's one role in one film...

Margin Walker - according to the X-Fan site, yeah, Hu's character conflates both the Anne Reynolds character from God Loves Man Kills comic with the Lady Deathstrike character from the Reavers.

It's going to be weird to see Cumming done up in the Nightcrawler fur/tail/three fingers make up/suit...

Margin: "the fact that Hu is Asian leads me to believe that her character becomes Lady Deathstrike."

The fact that, in recent interviews, she's stated she'll be playing Lady Deathstrike, leads me to believe she'll be playing Lady Deathstrike.

And Zocher, forgive me if I'm wrong about this (I can't be bothered to clamber up the thread and look), but aren't "Fly and the rest" totally into the idea of Alan Cumming (snigger). I think you're confusing sincerity w/ sarcasm.

Hmm. Why would the simple fact that Hu is Asian lead you to believe that she's Lady Deathstrike, and not maybe a more significant X-Men character like Psylocke? Or even Wolvie's exgirlfriend Yuriko?

Abigail Blue

Didn't Yuriko turn into Lady Deathstrike? Am I terribly confused?

shit, i'm sorry to get off track, but getting back to the look of sentinels on film [massive groan]...anyone remember a recent TRANSMET in which spider is sitting on top of a big robotic city guardian? i dunno, but i think darick robertson perfected the way a fear-inspiring sentinel should look. and now back to your regular discussion...

by Keanu.

Let's hope they're wrong. They also say he's cast in the new Superman flick, to be directed by Brett Ratner. Get out the toilet paper.

You're fucking with me. You must be. There's no way. Dr. Henry McCoy cannot be played by a man whose significant contribution to cinema has been a blankly uttered, "Whoa."

Hieronymus

No, no, no. The story is that there is a possibility that Keanu will do the Clark Kent thing (ugh. Different thread of much ranting). But as far as the actor playing Dr. McCoy? It's this guy, Steve Bacic. He's been in Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda and other forgettable roles:

Breathe deeply, Maz.

Look slike you're right - it was the wording (and the fact that I couldn't get the X2 page to come up last time) that got me:

Two CA Exclusives: The Beast is Revealed...and the Man of Steel Too?

What an incredible Friday night it's been. First, a reader hand delivers to me proof not just that The Beast will be in X-Men 2, but who's playing the character. Then, a short time later, a very trustworthy friend in showbiz tells me there's been a decision at Warner Bros. and a major star has been cast to play Superman. You know what I said when he told me who it is? C'mon, take a guess!

"Whoa!"

Misreading on my part. False alarm.

This Steve Bacic, didn't he play Captain Hunt's No. 1 in the pilot and some nonsensical secret operation episode halfway through the first season?

Hieronymus

Yep. That's the guy. He's also lined up to be in that Banderas/Lucy Lui actioner, Ecks vs. Sever. From what the Coming Attractions article said, it's still spotty whether Beast's cameo officially will or will not be in the film. But they seem to think he will.

My fanboy thought now is what's he gonna look like? I'm really hoping he resembles Grant's Cocteau-like Beast. I find myself warming up to that Beast more and more over the just blue sideburns and hairy-arms of the Claremont days.

Thing is, if he looked like Beast in New X-Men there'd be no reason to get a conventional actor to play him at all. The closest they'd come is the way they've modelled Gollum on Andy Serkis, getting a great voice talent to match with whatever CGI they come up with.

Hieronymus
00:09 / 16.09.02
That'd work for me.

Anyone who hasn't read Moriarty's yummy breakdown of X2 really should. Check out Flux's link earlier in the thread and head over to AICN.

It may be the land of fat geek, but it's often on the money.

From the Trib, courtesy of comics2film.com:

Playing Nightcrawler in the upcoming X-Men 2 is no walk in the park, actor Alan Cumming recently revealed to The News Tribune in Washington.

"It's an exhausting nightmare from hell," Cumming is quoted as saying. "Yesterday was a 19-hour day. I sat in the makeup chair for seven hours. It's a little hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Right now, I'm lying on the grass with my dog and my boyfriend looking at the sea. There's a God."

The actor reportedly has had to bulk up and wears contact lenses on top of the rest of the makeup. Regardless, the job does has its perks.

"Yesterday I killed someone by flicking them against the wall with my tail," Cumming revealed.

AICN has a poorly lit shot of Nightcrawler. On the one hand, it looks pretty bad. On the other, it does look like Nightcrawler, and I'm sure the vibe will be different onscreen. The early shots of the X-Men for the last film looked dire as well, so I'm hoping for the best...

Yikes. The garish neon green behind it is what's forcing me to keep my breakfast down. Otherwise, not a bad Nightcrawler.

Although the split in his pants is kind of... strange.

the split's probably for his tail...

The trouser-hole for Errol Flynn-loving buccaneer Kurt Wagner is, naturally, to give his tail room.

As an X-Corp press-release might read.

Or not.

Erm, Alan Cumming went to my high school. And Roddy Woomble of shit-good-shit band Idlewild. Really.

Saw Mr. Tricks' post. Shit.

Ummm, yeah - when we privileged little shits used to play Goldeneye on the N64, it was often a race to see who'd get Boris, and shout 'Carnoustie!' first. He was in the musical in 1979.

It's true.

I anticipate doing similar civically-minded things when X2 and spin-offs come out.

Nononono! Less Rogue is good. The less the better. I just hope the primary team all get personalities this time out, and can fight better.
