Not only is Nightcrawler going to be in it, but he's also going to be played by....

wait for it...

Alan Cumming!

What an inspired piece of casting that is... I'm looking forward to this already.

I saw this this morning. I think in my half asleep state it didn't quite hit me. hahahaha! Quite looking foward to this, although in my mind I keep seeing an amazingly camp nightcrawler.

Hmf. Casting alone does not a movie make.

"Hey, everybody, guess what? Carrot Top is playing Arcade in the next X-Men movie!"

"Whoa. Talk about perfect casting."

"Yeah! So do you want to see it?"

"Fuck, no."

Elijah D: Get yo lazy ass to http://us.imdb.com. Internet Movie Database's Alan Cumming listing here. Punk.

In the US, he's probably best known as the "I'm InVINcible!" Russian programmer in Golden Eye & the flaky TV show host in "Spy Kids"

Alan Cumming as nightcrawler = inspired casting with fingers crossed

Who cares? It doesn't matter if they fucking cast John Candy's corpse as Nightcrawler... it's still going to be Wolverine and His Amazing Friends !

They should try and grant-morrison-up the script a bit... just to aline it with their best selling comic... and, you know, to make me happy.

Actually, while I enjoyed X Men in a "super heroes in not looking completely terrible shock!" kinda way, from what I've heard about it, the sequel sounds much better. Yeah, I found out about Cumming last night, and, even though he is a bit old for the part, I'm with it. Sounds good.

SPOILER:

And I'm really pleased the Sentinels are being kept on the backburner this time. I like the wait. Holding out for X3.....

sweet!
Boris was the best thing about goldeneye, well, famke with a machine gun and leather was cool as well.
not a bad bit of casting, i hope he doesnt have the "all my german is from hogans heroes" accent they gave the Xmen-evolution nightcrawler.

any word on the plot to this bad boy?

Tamayyurt
20:51 / 02.06.02
Yeah, if they're not doing sentinels, then what? I hope not Magneto again.

Tamayyurt
20:54 / 02.06.02
And do you think those big ass pink sentinels would translate propperly to film? Would it leave the non-comic readers shaking their heads and laughing or do you think they could inspire awe? Maybe smaller human sized sentinels would be better... I don't know, thoughts?

Matthew Fluxington
21:09 / 02.06.02
From what I've read, there's no Sentinels.

It's actually going to be a fairly elaborate storyline involving the main players from the previous film plus Nightcrawler, with lots of doublecrossing and intrigue. It sounds pretty interesting actually, far better than I would have expected.

For more about the plot, go here.

Oooh, sounds most good. I really liked the first one, but that's just me. But yeah. Sounds good. Only one request: More Rogue.

Hey chaps, I am kinda outadate with this. Has Beast also been confirmed or not? And also, -for the computer image thing- wouldn't have been easier and more fashionable to bring in Colossus?

Alan Cumming in the X-men! that makes my heart go pif paf pof!
Anyhoo, its sounds like a pretty cool casting decision, and I'm well looking forward to it.

No Beast. They wanted Jon Favreau for Beast, according to Singer, but I guess their budget only allowed them one blue-furred mutant per movie.

I think Cumming is inspired casting as well. I saw him as the emcee in Cabaret, and I've got to say, not only does he have cuteness and comic timing going for him, but his German accent is very sophisticated.

Matthew Fluxington
19:28 / 03.06.02
My understanding is that Colossus is in the film, as a junior X-Men cameo capacity.

"The "Legacy virus", a disease that kills only mutants has been
created by humans in an attempt to eliminate Homo Superior
for good. It's up to the X-Men to stop the man behind the
Legacy virus, as well as prevent the disease's spread. "

"The characters of Angel and Nightcrawler join the
X-Men team. Gambit is not among them"

It would be nice to see some serious CGI Angel Wings in action don't you think?

Tamayyurt

I thought it wasn't going to be about the Legacy Virus.

Patricky, where did you read that? That goes against every official report that I've seen.

The story of the sequel is loosely based on the God Loves Man Kills graphic novel, and the only major new characters are going to be Nightcrawler, Striker, and his henchmen. Pyro, Kitty Pryde, and Iceman will have expanded roles from what they had in the first movie.

Are you sure about Alan Cumming, I read on another site that it was going to be some young American actor, I'll try and find the site?

I think he's in one of the cut scenes, mucking about w/ a fireball.

Yes, I think we can be pretty sure about Cumming. Flux and Hindermate say so: I trust Flux, and Hindermate's geek-research is never wrong (he has fabulous bullshit filters).

From coming attractions:

May 30, 2002... Embry might have been in talks to play Nightcrawler in X-Men 2 but he didn't get the job. According to Variety, Alan Cumming (Eyes Wide Shut, Spy Kids) has been inked to play the blue-skinned mutant teleporter. Variety does confirm Reporter's mention that Aaron Stanford will play the part of Pyro. [Source: Variety.]

pyro was in a cut scene with iceman, pretty silly really, since pyro is supposed to be not american and evil, but ah well, xaviers only recently became an actualy school...

I always thought that was nod towards the Human Torch. They called him Johnny and, you know, he had fire powers... oh well. Pyro's alright I guess. And who's Aaron Stanford? Is he the guy who played Pyro in X-Men 1?

Matthew Fluxington
03:57 / 06.06.02
Pyro was indeed in the first film, as was Kitty Pryde. They were in the schoolroom scenes, and both are referred to by name.

Pyro's real name is John....John Alderdyce, or something very close to that.

I'm not sure why they have Pyro as a featured student at the school when in the comics he is a villain - it probably would have made more sense for the Pyro character to have been Gambit, particularly since the Pyro character has a brief flirtation with Rogue and would have been about as easy to do with the special effects as Pyro. Whatever.

Don't misinterpret my knowledge of the X-Men movie for me liking it much - I thought it started off well, but got terrible about halfway through. It's on cable all the time, so I see bits and pieces of it here and there, it's fresh in my memory. I also check the X-Fan site every couple days for news, and there's always X-Men movie news there.

From Dark Horizons, today:

"Something interesting...Halle Berry, James Marsden, and Patrick Stewart, will be filming some extra scenes which will be mixed into the first film, which will be released as a 'Special Edition' DVD sometime around Spring/Summer of next year."
