Bongo party looks like fun...

Or if people don't mind shelling out a few more £££s on the 8th we could go to the Fleah festival at Finsbury Park and shake our collective booty to The Pogues(with Shane), Alabama3, Joe Strummer and no doubt hour upon hour of New World tripe...

The money saved from not drinking in a pub for 10hrs will surely make up the £32 entrance fee plus some cheap plonk...

I have a terrible vision of the Pirates vs Ninjas volleyball match from 'The Creation' being enacted in one of London's larger parks...

It'll be just like that Run DMC / Jason Nevins video - only with footie-playing geeks pretending to be ninjas and pirates...

couldn't we have a picnic AND go to a party in a few weeks?

Well, is anyone still up for a little picnic that Saturday?

I promise it'll be fun...

So where could we HAVE the picnic exactly? And when? I am thinking Saturday but what Park? And what time?

Oh I'm talking a week from this upcoming Saturday.

I vote for the more boho/Barbelith-y environs of the east end, personally. The football will likely end up a farce- might as well use a medicine ball and have everyone carrying a spliff or something

Hey there - I know most of all y'all are off doing whatever your doing with your holiday weekend but just wandering if people still want to do the picnic thing or perhaps just a smallish pub thing? Might be a bit less work.

Just let me know, kids.

Well, I've somehow got myself talked into going to a belly-dancing party later that evening, but I'll come along to your picnic or pub beforehand to say hello.

Working today, if the weathers nice tomorrow I may drift around the centre of London looking like a big fat ghost...

This is a week from today, right? I'm still up for the picnic idea, mos def - if the weather's like it is today it'd be a crime not to...

12:25 / 01.06.02
Yes, a week from today. I also would still like to do the picnic idea, but whatever is easiest...

So this is on then? (Though I hope the weather clears up, bloody hell)

I'm planning on it being on!

So if the weather is crap what about a pub alternative?

But where?

Ideas, kids?

ONLY NICE THINGS

OK, can I suggest a few possibilities?

1) East End, either Victoria Park (Bethnall Green) or, if it is raining, the Crown? I am seei9ng the Bacchae, so will probably not be there, especially if it is this far east, until later if at all.

Pros - nice park, nice pub.

Cons - Out of the centre, comparatively hard to find, biggish park so likely to lead to lostness.

2) West End, St. James' Park, and if it's raining the Chandos

Pros - Central, easy to find, could set a place near the main gate for meeting.

Cons - Is football allowed? Lots of backpackers. Evil backpackers. Filthbeer.

3) Holborn/Soho - Soho Square, and if it's raining the Princess Louise.

Pros - Central, Princess Louise is pleasant enough and has spacious upper floor. If weather is good Soho Square will be full of topless fit blokes and no dogs allowed.

Cons - very much doubt football is allowed. Space at a premium. If you are allergic to Euroboys, forget it.

Three possibilities, each with unique strengths and weaknesses.

Thank you Mister Haus, for doing the thinking my jet-lagged little mind is having trouble with at present.

I like option 3. Particularly the topless fit blokes running around bit. And I like the Princess Louise rain-date location.

However, I don't give a crap about football so if this is a serious issue, please speak now.

I'm thinking 4-ish?

Well, Soho square would be a very different kind of bending it like Beckham, certainly...

So, anyone passionate about football? Because I am now thinking of a Barbelith 5-a-side thing at Spitalfields....

Old brown-eye is back

Certainly would like to be there. Now, if only someone could only make up they mind about where, what, how and, er, if.

I get passionate about football every two years, but while the idea of Barbelithers trying to play proper 5-a-side amuses me (and I'd be one of the most amusing), I was going to suggest meeting up to watch Brazil thrash the proverbial pants off China at 12.30 on Saturday... anyone game?

"I think I'll support Germany, they're a good team... Aqua libra?"

I'm gonna only be sporadically on over the next two days - can someone text me where this fizzgig is gonna be?

1. I'm going to take charge here and say "Saturday, June 8 at 4pm, sunshine location Soho Square (which I'll have to figure out where that is but shouldn't be too hard), rain location same time except at the Princess Louise pub.

2. Actually as a foreigner to football madness (non football americain madness that is) I would be interested in meeting on Friday to watch the game as well. Could be fun, like an anthropological experiment.

But where for that one as well?

well just to clarify for the non-football literate the england argentina match is at 12:30PM (noon)

So I presume, based on earlier statements, Haus is hoping it's going to rain
And I don't do football, though I can shout abuse from the touchline. Early child school football-related trauma, I'm sure you'll all understand... And if you don't, fuck you!

Sorry, I fucked up earlier - I meant watch the Brazil/China game on Saturday at 12.30pm. Doh. The England/Argies game I'll be half listening to on the radio, half watching in my lunch break...

Cherry Bomb
07:48 / 07.06.02
Yes, Rothkoid, Princess Louise, "rain," Soho Square "shine."

Just as well with the screw up as I really should prepare some lessons for my students this afternoon. On the other hand IF anyone decides to meet up for football today, leave a message here and perhaps I can meet up with you for a quick break.

Don't believe I'll be getting out of bed in time to make the match tomorrow, quite frankly...

...meeting up to watch Brazil thrash the proverbial pants off China at 12.30 on Saturday... anyone game?

Grrreat idea, Fly dear! After my frustration with the loss of Argentina (but whAt a match that was! yessir, whAt a match) it'll be the best thing.
Er... I don't usually play footbal nor know exactly how to do it, meself, but if the mood is right... can I play? Just for fun?

Me working tomorrow night, unfortunately (therefore asleep all day, if the rest of my street will just shut the fuck up for a few hours). But, whatever ya end up doing, imagine a really pissed bloke talking about badgers while you're doing it. And that'll be me.
