That's right, kids. I'm coming baaaaaack.

And I want to see all y'all! Preferably without planks, or fear of planks, this time.

Anybody free the weekend of June 7 and 8 for a little get-together over drinky-poos?

Which day ya think? Friday or Saturday?

Where should we go? I really liked that Princess Louise cuz it was so damn cheap... but then the Foundry was so nifty and not too expensive.
Thoughts?

Will ya come see me again? Will ya?

princess louise is cheap and usually quite empty at a weekend... not tried the chandos at the weekend yet though - that's the same brewery/same prices - will find out how that is as a weekend venue at videodromes little gathering this weekend.

Either way I reckon I'll be there.

Seeing as you're returning in summer (of course...) I think we should forsake dingy pubs and meet in the part to drink canned lager and assorted carry-outs. It's much cheaper and much nicer and we can always go to a pub afterwards... Why 'the lads' could even have a kickaround, jumpers for goalposts and suchlike. Bagsy I'm not on the same team as Flyboy, and sleaze can be goalie.

um, for 'part', read 'park'. A slip that is not in the least bit freudian, I can assure you.

jumpers for goal post? marvelous. Football, isn't it? My massive hands are suited to goalie skillz

Actually a sunny picnic could be great fun - we did a similar thing a few years back (!) for kooky's goodbye bash - St. Dunstans in the east was the venue then- and we were very naughty. This time hyde park might be a better option especially if footie is on the go.

It goes without saying that if sunlight is involved, I'm out.

Not even if we could find you a big goth parasol?

Although I quite like the idea of somewhere huge like Hyde Park it is a bit of a bugger to hike refreshments to, anyone know of more intimate parks in close proximity to pubs? The only one I know of is Hampstead but then I know that some Barbelithers knees implode if they have to go further north than Camden.

What was St. Dunstan's like as an area? I've just finished 'From Hell' and my curiosity is piqued.

st dunstans in the east (as opposed to the church that is still up in the west) is very close to tower hill tube...

Hyde Park's not that far from pubs, depending where you are. I remember one memorable picnic with Sleaze that ended up in a pub with a traditional(?) knees-up round a piano. It was alarming and fun in equal measure. And nearby, which is my point.

Lancaster gate tube is opposite the park and conveniently stationed close to a pub or too - of course, the idea is we all bring our supplies of drinks and a little something to eat with us...

Requisite plug for East London - Victoria park is absolutely lush. It is full of ponds and the ponds are full of fish. Amazing fountain. Great pubs (including an organic one for those with ethical diets). 10 minutes walk from Bethnal Green tube, or right by the bus stop. Less police than hyde park and more people smoking spliffs. Chance encounters with interesting hippies a possibility. Pleasant 20 minute walk down the canal to shoreditch for clubbage.

Prime real estate.

I second that emotion. The area round Victoria Park is lovely...

London Fields might also be a possibility - there's a good pub there, I think it's actually called the Pub On The Park. Handy for the Stoke Newington/Hackney contingent.

Of course since we don't need an entire park, just a reasonable bit of grassy space, the possibilities are endless. There's a surprisingly nice little bit of field round the back of Brick Lane, for example...

gotta say the idea of trapsing all over east london 20 minutes from the nearest tube doesn't exactly fill me with excitement...

The wheels on the bus go round and round, sleaze. And that's before we consider the exciting prospect of Shanks' Pony - it's what your legs and feet were made for, you know.

be still my beating heart - the prospect of waiting LONGER than 20 minutes for a bus to arrive and turn a 20 min walk into a 30 min bus ride...

As i said- Walking is a wonderful pursuit, but walking 20 mins though the streets of my east end heritage is still not as enticing as a tube ride directly to the expanse of hyde park for all the running in the fields and grass action one could desire.

I LOVE the idea of an outdoor picnic!! How very fun!! I could bring wine and supplies!

Let's go someplace easily accessible and pretty.

OK, so providing Hyde Park is in that crucial 'near to booze' area I'm in, which of course will mean I'll be 'Hayfever Boy' for the duration...

picnicking is a fab idea, i'll bring the football, for sure...

but how do we pick teams if everyone is 'last person to be picked at school' material...

Naked Flame
16:32 / 19.05.02
Simple. Change the rules so that the object is to lose as spectacularly as possible.

And we're not all 'last to get picked' material. Hell, some of us never got picked at all. Only way I could get a game was to offer to be a goalpost.

st dunstans-in-the-east is also v close to a pub that's actually open at weekends should the weather be crap.

though actually it's a moot point because i don't think i'm around that weekend...

tyrone- can *you* actually play? the form isn't encouraging...

I think you should go to Victoria actually, I grew up round the corner, it's really nice and the advantages have already been written. I'd love to come to a meet someday, unfortunately I'm in Birmingham that weekend for Sundissential and some Goth barbecue fiasco (don't really go together... oh well) but one day...

if you were up for postponing it a couple of weeks, then we could go to the bongo beach party -- music, dancing, bring your own food & drink. and it's free. and there are a few pubs round there if the weather's shite :]
