Watchoo gonna do, when Hulkamania limps all over you?
They're hushing it up, but the smart money is on Hogan's ribs being broken. So it looks like the NWO will "put him in hospital", which may take the wind out of the Hulkastalgia sails rather. Meanwhile, we're still looking at a dearth of good, young mid-card talent that can be pushed up, and Hall, Hogan, Nash, DDP, Flair, the Undertaker - all these fortysomething-plus wrestlers - that MacMahon either keeps bringing in or giving pops to are doing nothing to help that. Who has really come up through the ranks in the last, say, two years from genuinely able mid-card competitor to regular main-eventer? Jericho, maybe. RVD, perhaps. Anyone else?
Not to mention that MacMahon's obsessive fondness for big strong types means genuinely able cruiserweights are either marginalised or forgotten about completely (what have Team X-treme managed of late? To get beaten senseless by Brock Lesnar, and that's it) while wrecks like Triple H and Austin, both weighed down by huge injuries, are constantly touted.
Triple H is, I suspect, never going to be the force he was, Austin is on his last legs, the Rock is increasingly diverted by Hollywood, Jericho needs to get back to being an abrasive face and probably lacks the heft to be a MacMahon favorite...the WWE needs to change, and I really don't think the "brand extension" is enough in itself. |
