Thought it was about time for another thread for the good old WWE(F). I don't have Sky/Cable anymore so I wondered what people were thinking of the new RAW/Smackdown setup?

I want to see Brock wrestle!

So Scott Hall didn't last long did he, the guy sounds like he needs some real help.

Mr. Perfect gone too.

Back maybe Steiner on the way and Shamrock...

There are rumours that Goldberg has been sounded out, although where that would leave Lesnar I'm not sure. Than again, they didn't seem to object to screwing Austin in favour of Hogan, so...

Yeah Goldbergs contract has been bought out, but he says he doesn't really want to join WWE as he doesn't like their values.

I don't mind Hogan being the champ as long as they don't drag it on too long, he deserves a good finish.

Watchoo gonna do, when Hulkamania limps all over you?

They're hushing it up, but the smart money is on Hogan's ribs being broken. So it looks like the NWO will "put him in hospital", which may take the wind out of the Hulkastalgia sails rather. Meanwhile, we're still looking at a dearth of good, young mid-card talent that can be pushed up, and Hall, Hogan, Nash, DDP, Flair, the Undertaker - all these fortysomething-plus wrestlers - that MacMahon either keeps bringing in or giving pops to are doing nothing to help that. Who has really come up through the ranks in the last, say, two years from genuinely able mid-card competitor to regular main-eventer? Jericho, maybe. RVD, perhaps. Anyone else?

Not to mention that MacMahon's obsessive fondness for big strong types means genuinely able cruiserweights are either marginalised or forgotten about completely (what have Team X-treme managed of late? To get beaten senseless by Brock Lesnar, and that's it) while wrecks like Triple H and Austin, both weighed down by huge injuries, are constantly touted.

Triple H is, I suspect, never going to be the force he was, Austin is on his last legs, the Rock is increasingly diverted by Hollywood, Jericho needs to get back to being an abrasive face and probably lacks the heft to be a MacMahon favorite...the WWE needs to change, and I really don't think the "brand extension" is enough in itself.

Agreed. They are meant to be pushing the whole cruiserweight division, focusing around Rey Misterio Jr.

Beniot back soon though, him and Angle need to get an angle going they're probably the 2 best right now, although Lesnar is meant to be a very good "real" wrestler but like I said I haven't seen him yet but what I've read sounds like they're pushing him as unstoppable force.

You still need the big names though like Austin even though the can't actually wrestle, its all about the character with them.

Good to hear that Bradshaw is getting a push though, always liked him, clever boy you know.

Bradshaw rocks. Good-humoured, self-aware, not a bad actor, bright and just really sweet. I miss the APA, though. And I'm not suire Bradshaw's push is going to go much beyond being Austin's loyal pack-horse...

Woot woot! Damn Vince, I hope the light heavyweight/cruiserweight comes back in a strong way. They dropped a bunch of lucha libre talent back with the WCW takeover, it would be easy to get it back at this juncture, I imagine.

What is up with the chick that won Tough Enough? Maven has done us big eyebrow'd folk well, but I hoped the girl would show up evey month or two as well.

Finally, Brock. This Aryan looking motherfucker needs a personality. The feral boy schitck is fine in ECW (remember Rhyno?) but this boy needs a new angle. Besides that I am in hetrosexual love with this young man. His moves are tight and he looks the old-school rassler part.

WWE?

What the hell?

Who in their right mind thinks of Pandas and koalas and the like when they hear WWF? Jesus, I don't know why, but the stupidity of people still astounds me.

Isn't the Undertaker supposed to be retiring? I thought the whole purpose of his change from badass lord of darkness to biker guy was so that he could slowly get out of the business.

Ah, the Vinnie Mac show.

He's got some real problems with his federation now. First, now that Flair has turned heel, BOTH shows have an evil owner against a wrassler who the fans like, but isn't exactly a babyface. He has most of his big stars either too old and going somewhere else, and the rank and file seem to be out of control.

All of this because the ratings are low. The WWE has lost half of its audience in the last two years, and the main reason is that there isn't anything they do that make you say "Oh My GOD, I have to watch the next show to see what happens!"

There are some bright spots, Brock Lesner will be amazing in about a year, once he learns how to speak on the mike, Paul Heyman's hand shows up in the booking from time to time (remember the beginning of RAW this week, with a match that had 5 Hardcore title changes? That's class Heyman booking) and most of the mid-range talent is better than they have had for a long time.

But you don't have a big draw. The Hogan stuff is a nice nostalgia angle, and I really bet that in the arenas, it goes nuts to see him. But on TV, Hogan looks like someone's gandpa hobbling around the ring. I was AMAZED that Jerico was able to carry him through their match on Smackdown.

My idea for getting people interested?

First: Shake things up...bring in Goldberg if you have to, but have him turn nWo. Lord knows he's given enough interviews about how much he hated Vinnie Mac's product...you could easily do a storyline with him saying he is part of the "poison."

Second: Surprise us. Have titles change hands on the regular shows and give them to people you don't expect. Can you imagine how it would get the net folks buzzing if Brock Lesner got the Heavyweight title?

Third: Let Paul Hayman Book. The man created the style that the WWE stole to become number one, now they make him sit out in most booking meetings because he doesn't push the comedy angles as much as Vinnie Mac would like.

Of course, your opinions might be better than mine.

This topic is taking Bump on the runway ramp.

Am I the only one thinking that the Judgement Day PPV is starting to smell of desperation? ANOTHER RVD/Eddie Geurrero match (not that I'm complaining, but...) and Jericho and HHH in a Hell in the Cell match to make up for Grandpa Hogan and the No-Sell-Taker in what may be the slowest match of the year?

Of course, it's always the WWE PPViews that look boring that end up being the ones that we remember.

And I think Bradshaw's push is about over, due to his antics on the flight back from the Europe tour. Not a good idea to cut off the hair of the road agent and tack it up on the wall as a trophy if you are looking to advance your career.

Whats the deal with Austin then, sounds pretty mad.

I'm just reading the news on rajahwrestling - Stone cold leaves the WWE and then Debra calls the police because he's beaten her!? Sounds like its all made up but seems its all true.

Shawn Micheals is back, but not wrestling.

I hope they bring back Marty Janetty, he always was the blander version... How many times did they try and a f(r)eud between them and fail...

And Austin was getting boring anyway.

Bring back Randy Savage with a skinhead and a goatee...

Heh.

Janetty won't ever come back...they sent him to rehab too many times, and he was never over with the crowds. Anyone but me remember when they tried to make him big after he got out of jail for cocaine by teaming him with Al Snow as "Leif Erickson" and called them the New Rockers?

As for Austin, I agree that it was time for him to go. He just can't seem to have a difference in his character and still be over with the fans, so maybe it's time for him to step aside and let the younger guys get a chance.

I'd like to see The Undertaker go back to his Undertaker persona..the whole American badass is just horrid. Id like to see them play up the fact thathe is one of the older (if not oldest) wrestlers in the wwe and then have him take on an evil manipulator type..sort of the Undertaker meets the emperor.

Lesner is a former amateur wrestler who is just HUGE...and reminds me a lot of Goldberg before WCW messed him up. He has a nice set of moves, looks amazing, but can't give a promo to save his life.

Let's see. The Rock is back, Austin is gone and prolly headed for a divorce and/or jail, ratings are still going down, and Vinnie Mac brought back Vince Russo for about a day.

Anyone know how the WWE can turn things around?

Foley won't come back. He was as unhappy as Austin, but left by going to Vinnie Mac, saying he wasn't having fun anymore and asked to be let out of his contract. He does one of those robot shows, and is a full-time author now, with his first novel coming out this fall.

Besides, Hasn't Mick gone through enough pain for us?

This "American Badass" stuff of the Undertaker's is just silly. I used to look forward to seeing the Undertaker. I got back into watching wrestling along about the time the Ministry was formed. Of course, they completely screwed that up by joining the Corporation and the Ministry together.

I think before he retires, the Undertaker should go back to his roots. Come in wearing the old Undertaker outfit; the hat and the long black coat, with Paul Bearer accompanying him. Hell, he could stuff Hogan into a coffin again.

Arrghh - what the hell are they up to now? Kane the murderer, these storylines never work! The sooner they sign me as a writer the sooner I can sort out RAW..

Seems like the ratings are going up, and Vince has stated there are going to be more storylines like the one above to bring back viewers..Smackdown on the other hand seems to be getting better and better.

They were actually looking for writers recently but you needed 2 years experience writing for soap operas, maybe I'll just pretend that I used to work on Eastenders.

I love you, Bear...

1. The match between Gerraro and Edge was OFF THE HOOK! That wan an incredible match.

2. Huri-Kane? GAH! What is the deal? Kane is going to be the "all round champ"?

3. So...is there 2 tagtems belts and Two Heavy wieght belts now? I'm confused.

4. Stacey Kiebler is sooooo hot...

5. What happened to Rock? I missed the Brock vs Rock match.

Please respond. Thanks.

I love you too -

1. So I've heard, you can "close the book" on the best match of 2002 they say, good on Eddie I say seems to have sorted himself out well.
2. Huri-Kane indeed, I'm not sure what they're up to to be honest, they make him more human, show more of his face and make him kiss Terri and do a Kane-aroonie and now they're trying to say he has a dark past and murdered someone called Katy Price I think it was, isn't that Jordan?
3. Yeah tagteam titles on both shows now and at No Mercy Kane fights Brock for the title and they're combining the WWE title with Kanes title, which gets rid of allot of history.
4. Yes, yes she is.
5. The Rocks a movie star! woooooo, making Helldarado and then something in Hawaii about a King I forget his name, sorry

And thats about it, oh yeah and its now Ron Simmons again people are saying that this might be because of the terrorist camp Farooq

What's this I hear about ROCK being booed?

Bear
11:26 / 16.10.02
The Rock was booed when he fought Hogan at Wrestlemania, probably slightly to do with the fact that Hogan had to be the face really, but I heard its more to do with the fact that Rock didn't turn up for house shows in the city months before due to movie work...

So Kane's not really a murderer then, he just got drunk and crashed a car and the girl he was with died, could have left it at that but HHH claims that semen was found in the girl and wonders if this happened before or after the accident.... I kid you not!

And of course there's the rumours of a Lennox Lewis v's Brock Lesnar PPV event, which they think would probably be the biggest PPV ever...Imagine if that goes ahead, they say it would be a shoot which would make even better !!

ONLY NICE THINGS
13:16 / 16.10.02
That would so never be a shoot. There'd be no point in it being a shoot. If it was a shoot it would take about five seconds.

1) If fighting without gloves, Lennox Lewis punches Brock in the face, Brock goes down, doesn't get up.

2) If fighting with gloves, Lewis punches Brock in the face. If Brock remains on his feet, he puts Lewis in a front face lock. Lewis submits.

I'd go for option 3), in which Lewis has enough money and enough pride not to go for it.

13:27 / 16.10.02
I think Brock could handle a few punches, Lennox is still human...they tried it a few years ago remember a little tournament thing, granted Bradshaw did get knocked out by Butterbean after one punch so you might have a point

I don't think he would be able to pass up the money, Tyson got something like $5 for 3 shows a few years back...

Lennox Lewis in in talks with the WWE, but don't look for him at No Mercy, since that's already set...MAYBE at Survivor Series, but I wouldn't hold my breath on it. Besides, EVERY time a wrassler and a boxer get in the ring, it's a boring match. I still have vision of Ali vs the Japanese wrassler, they couldn't work out who was to job to who, and the wrassler laid on his back kick at Ali for three rounds.

RAW was easily the worst nightmare of a TV show I have seen put out in years. Kane as a drunk driver who may have screwed a dead girl...oh dear heavens, if it wasn't for the fact that I had it on tape, I would have switched channels.

HHH (Triple Ego) is killing RAW as a show. Smackdown has amazing matches, quick stories and a LOT of guys being pushed to the top. On that show, Edge, Eddie, Benoit, Undertaker and Rey Mysterio are ALL top workers who can have credible matches with Brock Lesner (and Matt Hardy would be one if he wasn't doing the craven, ego driven bad guy angle)...

On RAW? They pushed Bubby Ray Dudley, and HHH puts his out in the middle of the ring with a sleeper hold. RVD gets shoved into the loser catagory after HHH puts him out (after the built him for a good three months). Now, Kane holds the IC Belt, held the Tag Title, BEAT 6 PEOPLE IN A TLC MATCH, and if Triple Ego buries him as well at the PPV, they have No One on RAW they could elevate.

I am SO sick of the HHH Effect (kill off all possible contenders and kill everyone's heat) that every week, I am thinking that I might quit watching RAW and just watching Smackdown.

The wheel had some great matches...but in that strap match from this week, the Triple H effect reared it's head again...Trip didn't hit with a strap once, and RVD got beat down repeatedly. Why?

Every time Trip came out and went after Kane as a murderer, Kane stood in the ring and did nothing. No running down to beat him up, no impassioned "You're a liar!" Just stood there accepting the abuse and accusations.

Taker is on Smackdown now...he switched over to ensure a title shot at BROCK LESNAR. Previous to that, he was going toe to toe frequently with JEFF HARDY...after which TAKER declared him one tough son of a bitch...MATT HARDY, being the jealous extreme, jumped to SMACKDOWN and is now trying to out do JEFF by battling the TAKER. Also, UNDERTAKER...cheating husband? A woman appears on SMACKDOWN calling TAKER Mark and saying she has been sleeping with him for months, unknowing that he has a wife...OOOOH!

My No Mercy predictions...

Undertaker vs Brock Lesner in a Hell in the Cell: Brock is gonna be champ until WM XIX, unless something horrible happens...should be an OK match, but not a GREAT match with huge bumps.

Triple H vs Kane for the OTHER World Championship: I hate this, but if Kane doesn't win, RAW will be unwatchable. Since it already is, I say Trip will lose but take all his heat back by beating down Kane after the match.

Edge & Rey Mysterio VS Kurt Angle & Chris Benoit: EASILY the best match of the night, and I think Angel and Benoit will win because the story of Tag Team Champs who hate each other is one of Paul Hayman's...and Rey and Edge are getting very good single's pushes.

Christian & Chris Jericho VS Booker T & Goldust: Hate to say it, but I almost think they will give the staps to Booker T and Goldust to kill Booker T's heat. But the bad guy heel team is a good one, so they keep the straps.

Trish Stratus VS Victoria: Time for Victoria to hold the strap...could be a good match (scary, isn't it?) with Trish being one of the most improved wrasslers in history and Victoria starting to remind me of Chyna...except she looks like a woman.

Rob Van Dam VS Ric Flair: I love Flair, but he's just been through too many matches to give a good performance...but RVD can carry the Big Show to a good match, so it won't be painful. And Flair shoudl win with help from Triple Ego, since he wants the rub.

Torrie Wilson VS Dawn Marie: Oh Ghods, who cares...Dawn Marie... Torrie will win, but it won't end the feud, since they don't have anyone else to fight with.
