it is amazing really. yknow the difference quitely makes to this title. Just from those few panels you can tell how good it'll be. Those some kind of weird synch thing going on between those two glaswegians. Weird and powerful.

Let me just point out how terrific it is that Morrison has made Cyclops cool again, as opposed to the characterization of Scott before the big X-Cleaning House/Overhaul. Scott's only distinguishing characteristics before Morrison were: he's a clean-cut goody two-shoes boy scount, who Wolverine likes to make fun of.

There was the bit about Cyke being merged with Apocalypse and how that made him darker and more brooding, somehow -- but that was really awful ("Hey guys! We can make him a little more dark and brooding now that he's emotionally and psychically scarred! What do you think? COOL, huh??")

Morrison has shown that Wolverine respects Scott's cool confidence and leadership abilities. Morrison is shown that Scott's not a "square" (like he was shown to be in the X-MEN movie) - he's a good man who always tries to do the right thing. Jimmy Stewart and Atticus Finch were cool in their day too, as is the protagnoist of Arthur Miller's classic play THE CRUCIBLE. A truly GOOD character doesn't mean "goody two-shoes boring." And Morrison has brought us back to that realization.

Scott is complex; thankfully, Morrison is the first writer since early Claremont work to demonstrate how complex and interesting Scott really is.

Dekapot Mass already linked this in another thread, but this is well worth quoting here, courtesy of Newsarama:

- When asked about the artist rotation on New X-Men, editor Mike Marts said that writer Grant Morrison is substantially ahead on plotting, and editorially, the books will be structured so writers will handle specific story arcs, rather than individual issues. Marts confirmed that Ethan Van Sciver and Frank Quitely will remain as two of the artists on New X-Men, and added that Phil Jimenez will be illustrating New X-Men #132. Marts said that Marvel and Jimenez are in talks about him playing a larger role on the art chores of the book. The publishing plan, in terms of numbers of issues per year, of New X-Men is still being discussed, according to Marts.

When Newsarama.com spoke with Morrison recently, the writer alluded that the series may be ramping up in terms of frequency, saying: “I've written six issues in the last two months and found it very easy and enjoyable. I seem to be discovering new energy reserves in my alien solar cells which allow me to do everything and I think what we're seeing here is a kind of comics Darwinism picking off the more vulnerable and less prolific animals at the outskirts of the herd. Gentle, lumbering herbivores, like Mark Millar, who can only handle two books a month will now be forced into a strict Bendis-based regime of high-protein breakfasts, power typing and script pumping just to survive. Any foolhardy creator unwilling to rise to these challenges of the 21st century will be undoubtedly picked off by merciless market forces.”

- Ethan Van Sciver said that the X-Men Icons: Phoenix miniseries has been postponed. Tom Peyer is still attached as the writer, and Marvel may seek out a new artist if Van Sciver cannot fit it into his schedule.

I think it's probably safe to assume that after the upcoming 3-issue storyline, we've seen the last of Igor Kordey on New X-Men. Yes!

I was thinking the same thing.

Goodbye Igor.

Bye bye Igor. I'll miss you.

Our Lady of The Two Towers

Thank God they've changed their mind about keeping Igor and dumping Ethan...

The sad thing is people are still going to bitch about the artist, no matter who they get. If its not Quitely, they'll bitch and moan like little children. "This isn't Quitely, its crap. I don't like this, I like Quitely better." and so on and so forth.

I think Ethan is a far superior artist to Igor. His fill in for the imperial story arc kept with the 'feel' Frank had put down and I'm glad they are keeping him on rather than Igor. People will still complain, but I will be able to blissfully ignore them. YAY!

That's right, Trijhaos. Because the art on Invisibles was obviously all shite up until the very last issue.

Yes.

I'm glad that they're keeping Ethan, because I like watching him grow every issue. I really think that Ethan Van Sciver will eventually be a really great comics illustrator, but is still in the learning-on-the-job zone. He has a lot of potential, and I don't think his art is that drastically different from Frank's to throw off the feeling of a story the way that Igor can.

I don't know a bit about the Invisibles art. I belive I've read maybe two issues all told. At one time, before I knew a thing about this Grant Morrison guy, I was going to pick up the first tpb, but the art turned me off totally. Ick.

I kind of thought Kordey was attempting to emulate Quitely's style and failing miserably.

The Natural Way
07:21 / 13.05.02
It really doesn't matter if people continue to bitch. At least Kordey will be off the title.

Our Lady of The Two Towers
11:32 / 13.05.02
I love Ethan's work, that second issue of the Imperial storyline in the garden at the mansion was so lovely. In fact, based on current work I'd rate him slightly higher than Frank. But if Igor's work was so bad because he was rushed, I'd like to see what he can do when he has the time...

Go read 'Cable' or 'Germ Free Generation'.

I'm not convinced that Jiminez is the right kind of artist for New X-men. He's certainly a great comic book artist, but it's interesting what he excels at. I thought his stuff on Invisibles was stunning because it was classy comic book art that didn't shy away from trying to draw the undrawable. But his stuff on Wonder Woman just looked too super-heroey in a really 1985 George Perez style.

Tom, I have to say that I have every confidence that he can pull off the X men and have the crowds on their feet.
But Prof X is going to be a lot more obvious that it's just Grant in a wheelchair.
