The issue to me is that here is a technology which doesn't rely on a crime having been committed to produce a list of suspects. You could abstract a profile of a person likely to commit a string of serious sex offences, for example, and see whether it matched anyone who had a string of minor offences but no major convictions...
A gross violation of civil liberties.
But on the other hand, it could save both potential victim and potential offender from a world of hurt.
I'm not seriously advocating it. But I'm intrigued and frightened by the notion. |
