Although The Haus is a central figure of many famous philosophical dialogues, little is actually known about him. He left no writings irl, and what is known is derived largely from an anecdotal source known as the Barbelith.
The Haus was a fencer by trade, even though there is little evidence that he ever sat on one. However, he did own a mask, plastron and vest when he was a Barbelite. Throughout his life he claimed to hear voices which he interpreted as murmurings from the Special Board.
It appears that The Haus spent much of his adult life in the agora (or Barbelith), conversing about ethical issues. He had a penchant for exposing ignorance, hypocrisy, and conceit among among his fellow Barbelites, particularly in regard to moral questions. In all probability, he was disliked by some of them.
However, The Haus did have a loyal following. He was very influential in the lives of several other Barbelous types and is fondly remembered by ZoCher for the kindly Christmas message.
The Haus is admired by many philosophers for his willingness to explore an argument wherever it would lead as well as having the moral courage to follow its conclusion (the infamous Haus riposte with a one-two.)
Many think that, after succumbing to self-doubt, The Haus was impeached and drank hemlock, as decreed by the King-Archon, after the arrival of a ship from Delos. In fact, Crito, or maybe Flyboy, substituted a very dry martini at the last minute and The Haus survived by the ruse of adopting yet another fiction suit...
Oh, and Wagner wrote an opera about him. |
