Good, because otherwise my tauntacious activities would probably be considered inhumane and criminal.

Low:
Misplaced apostrophes.
The use of '....., anyone?' within threads; it comes across (to me, anyway) as a smug, slightly wanky turn of phrase reminiscent of smug, slightly wanky dinner parties. Conversation topic as Ferrero-Roche.
'Discuss', for the same reason.
Words I have to look up - especially within posts purporting to be clearly understandable by all.
Barbe-love threads (because I feel compelled to join in then hate myself for it).
Lengthy, exhaustive dissections of 'Buffy'.

Medium:
'I'm so bored with Barbelith' threads (especially by me).
'Why do you all hate the Knowledge?' threads (especially by Andrew Calo).
Lengthy explanations of why persistent, reactionary trolling is - zzzz - actually 'revolutionary'.
Inappropriate use of medical/psychiatric labels ('schizophrenic' doesn't mean 'split-personality', 'psychotic' doesn't equal 'murderous', fluctuations of mood doesn't make you 'manic-depressive', and so on).
Blatantly attention-seeking provocation/'wackiness' it's near-impossible to ignore.
The whole 'you are sheep/sleeping/sedated with beta-carbolenes' approach to disagreement.
Most personal attacks.

High:
Use of the September 11th bombings to justify one's own highly-evolved delusional system.
Being threatened, especially off-board.

Mordant, does it count as anti-gothness if you see, like, a really, really cute 16-y-o gender-wobbly goth boy with an inverted cross painted on his forehead, and you say: "awwww!!! how cute are you!!!"

Cos I keep doing this, and I'm sure all the baby goths find it very annoying, but I don't mean like "aww, you'll grow out of it", I mean like "aww, you're the future of humankind..."

Ganesh: "Discuss" = "I think this might be an interesting idea but I haven't read enough (New Scientist) (cereal packets) (slash fic) (Derrida) to make my case in quotes, and I'm too lazy/scared to invent my own arguments, so I'm going to run away and watch everyone else bosh it out from a safe distance."

Deva: I do that all the time, at least in my sick and twisted mind. Whatever you say about kids who like Slipknot, at least they're not listening to fucking Steps.

No. They're listening to fucking Slipknot.

People who diss Steps and other POP! music... hmmm, they probably go in my 'Medium' box. Move to 'Low' if they mention their fondness for Tool, Coil, etc...

Re: Buffage and ice-picking eyes (!?)...

Sometimes it just strikes me as a little bit odd that a series that's so "obviously retarded" should garner so much big love from some of the most thoughtful, intelligent, humorous and, dare I say it, cool posters on this board: Tom, Mordant, Rizla, Haus, Fly, expressionless (even Plums has been known to tarry awhile in Sunnydale). Now, I know this isn't exactly an argument, but, I don't know....these aren't posters whose opinions/tastes I would dismiss out of hand.

I remember going on about how much I "hated Buffy" whenever anyone I knew told me it was good. I was sure it was the height of geekery and I loathed the weird Sunnydale language....

And then I watched about five eps in a row and realised how wrong I was.

Because of this (and because of viddying loads of friends/enemies/siblings/funny dwarves go through the same process), rightly or wrongly, I'm kinda sceptical of people who go on about how crap Buffy is. In my experience, most of the show's detractors have never sat down and watched a block of episodes (which is what you really need to do in order to get a feel for what's really going on w/ it). And I challenge anyone to watch 'The Body', 'Hush' or 'Once More With Feeling' and tell me that what they just saw was shit, just because I few people added the suffix "age" to the end of their words.

I have indeed been witness to numerous episodes of Buffy and still find it just frankly annoying. I've even seen the fabled "Once more with feeling". Be assured that I am not foolish enough to detract from such a well heralded form of entertainment without at least knowing some of which I speak.

I think that it's fair to include Buffy under the Woody Allen Entertainmeme Collective as most people seem to either love it or hate it and rarely a middle ground to be seen. Like Woody Allen I find Buffy to be nauseating, incredibly overhyped and not a little pathetic. On top of that it's is incredibly sold out.

Oddly enough, on the occasions that I have seen it Angel doesn't seem even half as bad.

Actually, probably medium scratchiness includes people trying to demonstrate their intellectual superiority with intricate use of relative and absolute clauses, and ending up speaking Martian.

I don't think 'Buffy' is "crap"; far from it. I do think it's a little overhyped, though, and mildly resent the the extent to which it creepingly pervades so much of this board.

Actually, the fact that we've spent the last three, four posts discussing it has shunted it into Medium for me.

I suspect that Woody Allen analogy's kinda on the money, actually.

Buffy does have a certain...taste to it.
