I'll be there tonight - a lot of people I know are thinking of going. Where there is Blow Up, there is almost certainly wembley.

Okay, so I reneged on Blow-Up for the first time in olympic history. What can I say, I was pooped. Anyone else have a fun time?

Not sure if anyone else went, Wembley.

March 2nd update. The Datsons are playing the Rancho Relaxo, so there's a better than even chance I will be attending. This will only be put off my appearance at Blow Up (at Lee's Palace for anyone not paying attention) temporarily.

March 16th is still up in the air, I believe...

by odd coincidence, I ended up, well, near Blow up last saturday. That's one daunting line-up; dashed my dancing plans in one fell swoop. next time I'll show up well before 12.

Two weeksish away folks, where do you want to meet/go/do?

OK, if the weather stays sane I will be in the big T-Dot to get down on Saturday night. Hope to see at least a few regulars there (that means you Wembley). I'll be wearing a beige jacket that makes me look like Lee Majors, and I'll probably affix some sort of button to my lapel.

That, or just watch for my booty.

March 2nd. At Blow Up, a weekly event put on at Lee's Palace every saturday. I have no idea who will be there. This isn't really a meet, just me wondering who will be there.

March 16th, now that will be a meet.

Busy tomorrow.

On the sixteenth I'm thinking we should go to a restaurant or something and go from there.

Who's good for Tortilla Flats?

Having been sick for two days, I think it's fair to say I've at least got one arm and one leg out of my deathbed now, and in all likelihood will pump myself full of pharmaceutical glories just to get down at Blow Up. Watch for me - I'll be blowing my nose on a paisley top.

Just having a quick poke about for March 16.

Interesting looking indie band playing at Lee's called ....And You Wall Know Us by the Trail of Dead. Review compares them to Fugazi or Sonic Youth.

No other bands of note yet, 'cept Bad Religion, but too fuckin' expensive. Damn punk bands.

Honestly, searching toronto.com for clubs is like pulling fucking teeth. I second the going somewhere for a bite, but I don't know what to do after that. Don't they still have a really cheesy nightclub at the top of the CN tower. Invading that might be a laugh.

(Zoom just gets geekier and geekier with each post.)

Do they still run raves at the Science Center? I know, not exactly underground, but think of all the messed up shit they could do there.

Ah, won't be at Blow Up tonight my friends. I'd like to but Zoom is a very very very poor boy these days. And I've been conscripted to do some guerilla film-making tonight, whatever that is. As long as it doesn't cost me anything.

Zoom.

I had my Wembley-Bootay Sensor on at a little past 9.6, and I couldn't find her. So I'm assuming she couldn't make it, because when Wembley's on the floor, you damn well know it. Bang.

Get well, Wembley.

Bad news. It looks like I won't be able to make it to the Saturday night gathering after all. On the plus side, my schedule for that week includes at least one trip to Toronto.

Wednesday the 13th, Bloor Cinema is having a lecture by renowned cartoonist Richard Williams, which I'm following up with some vintage comic shopping. Thursday, I'll be in Niagara Falls getting down. If you haven't seen the Falls by that point, BK, I'll be happy to bring you. Friday is the Hanson Brothers show (not the Mmm-bop kids, more like the ones from Slap Shot), so anyone up for a little hockey inspired punk rock, let me know. And I should be in TO saturday morning as well, if I haven't crossed paths with you yet, BK.

Whew. Yeah, so any of those days. Take your pick.

As a side note, on Friday 15th I'm going to be at Clintons (SW side Bloor/Clinton) to see ultraLOfreq say farewell to their drummer. These people are great and it should be a great show. Come along and have fun.

OK.

For awhile there it looked like I might have been able to make it to the Saturday Ubermeet after all, but my fortunes have turned once again.

In all likelihood I will be attending the Richard Williams animation lecture at Bloor Cinema on Wednesday, and will be comic hunting before and after then if you want to meet up, BK. Thursday I will be in the Falls, getting down to some bad retro with my friends at Rumours nightclub. If you all can make it for Thursday night, we can check out one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and shake some ass. Friday is the Hanson Brothers show, Captain. I think they're playing at the Horseshoe. They are also playing Saturday, but as I mentioned before I won't be around, and even if I was I'd be going to the Barbemeet. So, if you want to catch them Captain, Friday night is the night. BK, if I haven't seen you by then, maybe we can meet up Saturday afternoon.

saturday would be the best time for me. Im going to be tired wednesday night. thursday Im going to spend the day getting my picture taken (which, knowing how stubborn I am, will take all fucking day). thursday afternoon and night I have plans, friday night Im going out and sunday night Im going back. so that leaves pretty much all of saturday free. wembley, if you want to come, Im sure - positive - we can find you a ride

I suggest that we all hook up for going down to Niagara Falls on Sunday morning. For those of us without transportation I reckon I could rent a car for the day and we can drive down from Toronto.

If Mr. & Mrs. Zoom have a car then they could meet us there.

There's a Budget on Spadina/King which would give easy access to the Gardiner and the QEW

Except that Bitch Kitty heads back on Sunday - unless you meant Saturday morning to make a start for the falls.

I'm not sure yet if I'd be free for an all-day, out of town excursion - but I am certainly free for an in-town meet. I've also made Ray Fawkes mark the date in his calendar.

Nah, BK doesn't leave until the evening, plenty of time for a run down to the falls and back plus the car can be dropped off at the airport for a few more dollars.

Of course if you're not available then that certainly changes things.

It looks like Sunday is out for me as well. Hrm... how about a plan that lets people pop in and out according to their schedule? We could arrange to meet up somewhere mid-afternoon at a coffee shop, take BK around to see a few sights, then head to a pub for something to eat & a couple of pints. If there's a schedule that says where the barbegroup will be at, say, 3 pm, 6 pm, 9 pm and 11 pm, then folks can catch up with the group as the day goes.

Just a thought. I have no idea what BK's interested in doing/seeing around TO, other than her mention of the Falls.

Time's moving fast, and it seems there still isn't some kind of consensus.

BK, I'd like to see you sometime this week, but you've got to throw me a bone here. Time's tight, and if you're not up for the Falls on Thursday, then is there any chance of meeting late Friday (after our respective gigs, maybe for a street dog or Bif Bang Pow at Lee's) or early Saturday?

early saturday for us, moriarty! would that be ok?

for everyone else, it seems that saturday afternoon/night is the best for everyone, except for H/wisdom, who has another comittment. any particular time or place? Im easy, Id like to go anywhere that everyone else is interested in. Im low maintanence and dont mind walking (as long as its not too cold!). Id be more than content for a chance to chat, but if you have grander ideas Im willing!

Captain Zoom
15:21 / 13.03.02
Alright. I'm supposed to be working until 7. I may be able to get a relative/friend/slave to cover for me for a few hours. I think the schedule is a great idea. But it really depends on what miss Kittie would like. Obviously, come evening, we might want to hit somewhere to eat. So we should use that as a main point. Like at 8:00 we'll be at (fill in blank) for dinner. Then go forwards and backwards to figure out what to do the rest of the day. I mean, touristy things? CN Tower, the ROM, art gallery, or walking Queen St. or Yonge, or some other cool places. Or a bit of both.

As far as somewhere to eat, as long as they cater to the vegetarian set, I'm easy. I'm not terribly familiar with eateries in T.O., though there's a place on, um, College, I think, called Oasis, that does nice food. I think. I'm really scraping my brain here.

Anyway, for me it's going to be a matter of whether someone can cover my store for me. I don't mind knocking off a little early, but I can't close all day sadly. Also keep in mind that a lot of places have March Break right now, so touristy/cultural stuff will be packed tight.

There. Anyone know a good place to go? Miss Kittie, when's a good time to start? Lunch time, mid afternoon, or early evening?

Zoom.

Checking in, c'est moi.

I'm definitely only fresh on Saturday (got a cue-to-cue from hell on Sunday), and I'm not sure whether I can do evening or what. I might only be good for lunch, because I have way too much homework to be lollygagging around.

But here are some suggestions off the top of my head if anyone needs inspiration. Saturday night - jeepers, you want to scale that down a bit? Way too much to do! My suggestion as ever is Blow Up or possibly Mod Club. Good idea to get there not too much after midnight, as the weather is getting all nice-like and more people will want to go out.

In the Bloor-Spadina area: New Generation Sushi is a fabulous place for food, if you dig Sushi. If you want uber-healthy, try Juice for Life, the vegitarian juice bar and restaurant that's so wholesome you'll want to spit (there's also one on Queen). Oasis on College has excellent food and beer for cheap - one of the few tapas places I know about in Toronto. Also in Spadina-College area there's the Red Room, amazingly cheap and good food and beer with a fabulous ambience. Across the street we're getting into chinatown eats, and I'd suggest the Kom Jug Yuen (or as my friends refer to it, the cum jug) for really good and inexpensive Chinese food. It's one of those places you drag people, and they look scared, and then they get the food and they're amazed, and then they get the bill and they're gobsmacked.

For daytime, the art gallery might be a good pick, because even if you can't be arsed to see the Yoko Ono exhibit, there's an amazing show called "Ultrabaroque: Aspects of Post-Latin American Art" on right now, and it's really worth checking out.

So, what's up early Saturday?

14:34 / 14.03.02
I'm still sorting out my schedule last minute. My big problem is that I have to bring my dog with me and leave her at my aunt's overnight if I want to come out for lunch. Actually, that's not really the problem. I also have to hear back from my friend Tanya to see about staying over Friday night at her pad. Sheesh.

No matter what, I'm up for lunch on Saturday, whether I'll be driving up from Niagara or not. I'm not picking restaurants, because all I know is Amato's and the Cleanest Hot Dog Cart in the City, which has mysteriously disappeared.

So, I really have nothing to add other than I leave the decision making up to the T-Dot folk.

By the way, Wembley, I heard that Fridays at the Dance Cave are dancilious. Any truth to the rumours? And is anybody else going to see the Hanson Brothers? Zoom?

I'm liking the Blow Up idea for Saturday night dancing. There's also a fetish night happening at the Reverb, but the music is typically uninspiring and it's nowhere on the scale of Torture Garden.

For Saturday afternoon, there's also the Royal Ontario Musuem - the Asian Dinosaur exhibit is supposed to be v. cool, and I can get one other person in for free with me.

I've also heard really good things about that exhibit at the ROM.

And as for fridays at the Dance Cave, they are indeed dancelicious, and free. However, last time I went someone groped me and I decided to avoid the place for a while. Not that I would be afraid, were I to be surrounded by knights in shining armour (hint).

moriarty
17:10 / 14.03.02
Well, I would be able to attend the Dance Cave on Friday night, but only after the Hanson Brothers show, and only if I can find a place to crash (hint, hint).

Barring that, I will definitely be checking it out at a later date, and I will keep you informed as to when.

In other news, The Kingpins, my favourite ska band ever, will be touring in June. I'm pulling a Grateful Dead and following them around for five+ stops, one of which is in TO. I know at least a few people in Toronto are interested in the ska, so I thought I'd give you all a heads up.
