(3rd) Uncle retro: Sounds like you want uber-goth '80s kitch stylee... I'd gather that the more industrial stuff wouldn't fit your comp?
In which case, 'All Cats Are Grey' from The Cure's Faith is a must, as it's little known. Or 'The Funeral Party'.
If you're after non-goth, but no-less-goth-than-anything-else-marketed-as-such, try Jeff Buckley's 'New Year's Prayer', 'Nightmares By The Sea', or 'Dream Brother' for some goth-non-goth... equally, the already mentioned 'Teardrop' or 'Inertia Creeps' from Massive Attack's uber-goth, stoner-NIN opus Mezzanine would work (recommend the latter, personally, because 3D's voice creeps the fuck out of me). And almost anything from Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds' Live Seeds album, especially 'The Mercy Seat' for that terrifying authentic 'Sisters' feel.
Then there's Radiohead's 'Climbing Up The Walls', James' 'Someone's Got It In For Me', Counting Crows' 'Perfect Blue Buildings', U2's 'Love Is Blindness', anything from Tricky's wilderness years, Faithless, ...Trail Of Dead, Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Portishead... dear dead Christ, how many non-goth-goth bands are there?
Crypto-goth is the new black... |
