My buddy just burned me a copy of Kings of Metal because he said that everyone should own that album. For the longest time I've had this averseion to Manowar as they are incredibly cheesy, but, for some reason, when another buddy showed me the bassist playing "Flight of the Bumblebee" (only called "Sting of the Bumblebee") on his bass, I decided they weren't all that bad. And I find myself listening to Kings of Metal more and more lately, despite that the first few times I heard the album I spent arguing with the singer (not literally, but he sings things like "my dad was a wolf" to which I would yell at the stereo, "No, he wasn't, you're lying to me" and I would also yell at the steroe during all their songs about battles and what have you "What the fuck are you talking about? You've never killed people with with an axe!"). And when I talk to people about things like thier cheesiness and the fact that they don't fight in vikingesque wars with broadswords, the only reply I get is "They're Manowar, they can do that." And lately, I'm starting to see their point, which is a bit frightening to me. |
