The Rock! Booker T! Kurt Angle! Stone Cold Steve Austin!

Will anyone else be watching this spectacle of the absurd?

My brother used to do the boston crab (now called the Walls of Jericho) on me when I was young, it hurt like fuck.

And whatever happened to Benoit?

Why do we watch when we know it is so bad?

In victory. grace. In triumph, maturity...

YES! YES! YES!

Man-beats, hose-beast, bring 'em on! I'll take on all comers - not unlike a certain bottom-feeding, lip-smacking, over-bending trashbag ho of my acquaintance. And here's a special message for Stephanie. You probably never have been kissed like that before. You're probably hurting for some Y2J loving. But let me assure you, you grotesque skank, it will never.....NE_E_E_E_E_VER...happen....again.

Did anyone see Stone Cold's little speech/routine last night, where he was praising some of the Alliance troops but berating others, culminating in him asking Taz to take his shirt off so he could whip him?

Juts when I think that show can't get any weirder...

Have to say, I'm a bit disappointed with the Rock since his return. He hasn't really lived up to his title of the most electrifying man in sports entertainment so far, what with losing to Booker T, a man so camp he makes Little Richard look like Chuck D (the leg-spinning! the gloves, ferrchrissakes!).

Come on, Rock. Prove that you can still... BRING IT.

Did anyone else read that there were serious investigations into there being a "gay casting couch" in the TV wrestling world, whatever became of that?

I still watch it, but from time to time i get flashes of some overweight TV executive slapping an oily Rock demanding he squels like the bitch he is.

Kane and the Undertaker rule and Mick Foley used to rule also.

Hey, Mick Foley will always rule. Any man willing to take that much of a beating for our entertainment (and some money) deserves nothing but respect and adoration.

Plus, he's one of the most amiable guys on the planet, and he's a really odd shape!

Foley forever!

OK, so The Rock beat Booker T (who's a lame knock off of The Great One anyway)... and I'm sorry, but it's not the win/loss ratio that matters with this stuff. His Booker-baiting is the stuff of legend...

The Rock: Who in the blue hell are you?!

Booker T: (can't believe he's being asked this) I'm the WCW champion, sucka!

The Rock: Let me get this straight... You're the WCW champion sucker?

Booker T: I'm gonna challenge you to a match for my WCW title at Summerslam, sucka!

The Rock: You're going to Summerslam? What, do they need someone to park cars outside of the building?

Classic.

And The Undertaker is still the man. The Dead Man. When he came back in the 'biker from hell' character, I was disappointed, I'll admit that. But it's his last year wrestling ("they call it a decade of destruction" you know), and Mean Mark Calloway is still Wordless Charisma personified (he's better when he doesn't speak - although his "I've crippled more people than polio" comment to The Rock a couple of years back still has me grinning).

His total annihilation of Triple H at Wrestlemania this year was one of his best matches ever. Had me on my feet, punching the air, screaming DEAD MAN! DEAD MAN! And he managed to make a Limp Bizkit song seem cool.

What did happen to Triple H??

And Chyna?

I hate the new Stone Cold... "What...What? What did you say?"

Still, you got to love William Regal, he's so.... pasty.

Still, it's more entertaining than the theatre, so I tell myself.

Chyna asked for a HUGE pay increase and said she wanted to just dominate the women's division, and so was given her walking papers. Hemlsey is out fopr another three months due to a very nasty injury where the muscle tore away from the bone.

I think building the current show around Austin in a bad idea, since he just hasn't been very entertaining since he came back from his injury.

But you know...having Jerico AND RVD giving the best matches in their lives makes this one of the best runs the WWF has had in a while.

I miss Benoit though, he and Jericho were cool together.

Jack The Bodiless

The Crippler's also out on injury, which is a damn shame, as his mic skills had improved in leaps and bounds since joining the WWF, and his babyface turn was finally getting him the leading man status his talent deserved.

Kurt Angle's recent complete shift from pratfall comedy sidekick to Stone Cold, to Hulk Hogan/Stone Cold hybrid is an impressive piece of propaganda... never thought they'd pull it off as well as they have. Same goes for Austin's heel turn - took serious guts to take the comeback of the alt.hero figure who (arguably) made professional wrestling what it is today, and successfully turn it into a Dark Pheonix variant. And Steve's risen to the challenge so well - Triple H (the greatest heel in the history of the industry, IMHyperbolicO) is actually going to have a fight on his hands to get his seat back.

You're right about RVD, though - while some of the WCW wrestlers are finding themselves out of their depth in the flashier arena that the WWF inhabits, he's fast making the kind of matches that Shaun Michaels used to be famous for.

Anyone else worried about Jeff Hardy? He's got another two years left in him if he carries on like this - either that, or the same fate that befell Owen Hart or Droz - a bodybag or a wheelchair...

Ellis

What happened to Droz then??

And Angle is so much better as the Patriot character than Lex Luger was, and Tatanka, and Jim Dugan.

I believe Droz broke his neck during a fairly routine slam. And Jake The Snake was a legend - mic skills to die for. But if any of you have seen Beyond The Mat - he's probably one of the most unhappy and fucked up men I've ever heard of. Articulate as fuck, and a crackhead, too. Such a shame.

What will be done with WCW ?

Will it become a seperate enterprise or stay at war with the WWF until Vince gets bored and dumps it?

Vince has a big problem with WCW as I see it, he (or should that be He?) wants WCW to be full of good wrestlers and not look like crappy 2nd raters (no one will pay to see WCW if they are all considered to be naff) but he can't afford to have the WCW guys look better than the WWF as it will weaken that franchise.

He can't make one look good without the other looking bad.

And who remembers Vince's other ideas... the XFL (snigger!) and the WBF (moo ha ha!)

What's a Vince gonna do?

[I saw Chyna's book on sale for 5£ earlier, I may buy it, BIG font though...
I really want to buy the Mankind one, thats gotta be good]

By all means, Ellis, buy that book! Have A Nice Day, the Mankind one, i mean. I wouldn't touch that Chyna Early Reader with a biiig pole. HaND is a great read, though - Foley's intelligence, kindness, and fearlessness are so apparent on every page.

Plus it's got some really pretty grim pictures in it - including one nasty close-up from just after he lost his ear in Japan.

There's just one question I have to ask you, just to ensure that the Rock understands the situation completely.

What in the BLUE HELL is a spinaroonie?

Who invented the spinaroonie - Fisher Price?

Let me get this straight. The Rock has the rock bottom, the sharpshooter and the People's Elbow. You have.....the spinaroonie, the dipsie-doodle and the SUFFERIN' SUCCOTASH!

Classic. Dwayne's mic skills are a legend. I think a neutral observer would probably say that he and I are the most charismatic fellows in the WWF today.

It's a great shame that Chris Benoit is injured - he was on the edge of a big push, and he's a great personal friend. But he'll be back, bigger and badder than before. I'm really looking forward to some great stuff with me, him, Jeff (Hardy) and RVD.

13:22 / 31.08.01
sorry guys, i'll have to stop you there...

the Rock is the lamest wrestler there has ever been. look at the facts-

1) his mic skills are nothing more than a bunch of catchphrases, he is almost entirely reliant on the poor recipient (recently Booker T) shutting up and playing along in order to get him over. some other wrestlers have genuine mic skills, improvising lines in the heat of the moment rather than regurgitating a prewritten script.

2) his finishing move is totally pants. hit one rope, then the other and then... AN ELBOW DROP. oh wow! again this so-called "great" wrestler is relying on someone-else to get him over, in this case the announcer declaring the "electrifying" nature of the move.

3) he is starting to suffer from Hulk Hogan syndrome, you know the thing, where the babyface becomes so big that they will only ever lose due to interference, cheating, whatever. BORING!

Well, that was the most electrifying riposte in sports entertainment.

Although I have to say, my "Walls of Jericho" is probably the most visually satisfying finishing move. Sure, the high-impact stuff is cool, but there's nothing liek a good submission hold to build up the tension...

The Rock does suck...remember when he first came around...he had dimensions and was a badass. Now Vince is making him say the same lines over and over again...its sad really.

Give my vote for Kurt Angle...a real wrestler who will never get respect...the perfect WWF concept.

He is just sooo bland!

BRING BACK DINK AND DOINK!!!!!!!!!!!!

They did bring back Doink for the WM "classics" match, which showed just how dumb the gimmicks were back in the late 80's and early 90's.

I think everyone in the business knows that gimmicks have a limited shelf life, and even something like Sean Stasiak running into things trying to prove himself should only last a short time.

The Rock is the Big Crowd Fav, and he gives the fans what they want. Instead of saying "HIs big move is an elbow drop, big deal," I am amazed that with his ring skills he can make an elbow drop a move that drives crowds crazy...

But then again, I watch for the comedy and to see these guys work crowds.

Oh, and am I the only one who thinks it's a great Idea to have The Big Slow doing his comedy bits and cheesey impressions of other wraslers?

Nope. Hulk is trying to start his own federation with a FOX Sports deal and Flair will only come back if he doesn't have to work the ring. Both have big contracts with AOL from before the sale of WCW and will get paid through at least next year to sit home and watch TV.

I wish someone had run over the Rock. or he'd bugger off into B-movie obscurity forever. the sad fact is that the big names almost always hold wrestling back. Undertaker is just dull now, Kane is ok but doesn't really do much, Big Show got too fat to wrestle at all, Steve Austin makes an interesting heel (but it takes the whole of ECW/WCW to get him over, sacrificing their own interesting storylines and integrety in the process). Name one wrestler who stayed interesting after hitting the A-list?
