Scammed from Previews, just for you lot:

Since word first broke about writer Grant Morrison’s new creator-owned series, the comics community has been abuzz with one question: Just what is THE FILTH?

Here’s what we can tell you: Morrison’s return to VERTIGO with this 13-issue maxiseries guarantees readers the heady brew of big ideas, exotic locales and bizarre action that they’ve come to crave from the fan-favorite writer. Fans have had their imagination rocked by his previous groundbreaking works such as ANIMAL MAN, DOOM PATROL and THE INVISIBLES, and watched as the writer helped reinvent and revitalize JLA and X-Men. Now, joined by the stunning visuals of penciller Chris Weston (Ministry of Space, THE INVISIBLES) & inker Gary Erskine (THE AUTHORITY), Morrison’s new series THE FILTH shows all the signs of an instant classic. And speaking of notable art, the covers by progressive designer Carlos Segura stretch the boundaries of what has been previously seen, continuing VERTIGO’s commitment to cutting-edge comics.

Then there are those prosthetically outfitted dolphins in scuba gear, the hard-smoking chimpanzee who dresses like a guard at the Kremlin and the cryptic pronouncements that something sneaky is going on right under our very noses. World-class weirdness, to say the least. You’ve seen the images. You’ve heard the buzz (“THE FILTH is everything I can't do in a mainstream comic like X-Men,” says Morrison). The time for THE FILTH is now. What does all this have to do with the Way We Live Today? Want to know more about THE HAND and STATUS: Q? That would be telling… And our lips are sealed until June 5th!

This project is supported with a 4-color poster, house and trade ads, and a minisite at www.dccomics.com.

THE FILTH is a 13-issue VERTIGO maxiseries edited by Karen Berger and is suggested for mature readers. The 32-page issue #1 arrives in comic-book stores June 5 with a cover price of $2.95 U.S.

Who's excited?
I am.

Re: Chris Weston's art.

How would you feel if they'd announced that Jill Thompson was drawing it? Just putting things in perspective...

And if Phil Jiminez were drawing it, that'd be quite good. But we get Westie..."better than Jill Thompson."

>>By mini-site what they mean exactly?

I guess it will be something like this but completely and absolutely FILTH-y :-)

http://www.dccomics.com/features/100bullets/100bullets.html

Probably it will go live by the end of may.

Oh, and count me VERY excited about it all...

So here's your mini-site info. Check it out, chaps and chappeses...

p.s. I said it before and I'll say it again. Jill Thompson was one of my fave Invissy artists when she inked her own stuff. I thought she blew Jiminez away. But what do I know?

Okay. Since there was no reply to my last post, I'll assume that it went completely under the radar. Here's the scoop. On monday, AND MONDAY ONLY, the Vertigo section of DC's website will be filled w/all kinds of Filth nonsense. The url to Newsarama's story on this is in my last post. Just thought it might be moderately interesting...

If it's similar to it, Jenny, I'll be happy.
And listen to our buddy Arthur, it's on Monday. And Monday only.

I feel horrible, but I won't be buying this mini-series.

NOT because I don't want to read it, not because I think I won't like it, but because I know that when it is done, I can buy it as a trade paperback. That way I can read it all at once. I don't have to dig through my comics to find all the series to read it.

Am I the only one who is thinking of the series like this?

Well the Vertigo site has been over run and it tell you sod all.
Loved the "What is the Filth?" Banner though.

Nice. Like all the mystery.

Looks like the Outer Church won.

That's it?

Wow! I'm...overwhelmed by all the information thrown at us about the series.

This is the big change to the vertigo site? Some pictures and a couple pop-up text boxes.

I feel somewhat let down.

if this doesn't sell well, it may not be collected into a TPB.
We never know.

Trijhaos, I was let down too, but because there's no more info on the series themselves (I knew there wouldn't be).

That's not how the Vertigo site will look from now. Tomorrow it may disappear.

Trijhaos

That's what I was hoping for though; more information on the series. I guess I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up.

Oh well, at least the art is nice.

I know that if it doesn't sell well, it might not be collected....but do you think Grant would allow a contract for a mini-series without a trade paperback clause? I know that a LOT of people are demanding them now, since there are next to no royalties for a regular comic.

But who knows. I'd just rather read it as a collected book, and I'm like that with all mini-series now.

The Natural Way
07:35 / 02.04.02
Now is it actually in B/W? Hope so.

Don't really know what everyone's moaning about. Info? The visuals provide plenty of information. At the moment the series could be about anything (tho' I do have a few ideas). Don't want the feeling of limitlesss possibility ruined, so enjoying the mystery.

Trijhaos
08:45 / 02.04.02
The mystery is nice, but if they had tossed us a plot point or a bit of character info, they might get more people talking. They could even make it a minor bit of info and still keep the air of mystery.

so agree with you runce.

I fink you should share your predictions on what the filth is about and how it might pan out cos I value such opinions and you are uncannily accurate at times.

Yeah, the Filth is definitely the world through an Archonic lens.

Whether or not they won tho, dunno bout that. Maybe this is the ideal world in which everyone gets what they want (both te good guys and the bad guys) and were seeing it through the 'bad' guys eyes.

Maybe it's the Invisibles spell reshot with dirt.

Dunno if thats such a good idea tho, considering te Invisibles becomes more 'true' every day.

ps. I'm bored and trying to avoid doing autocad drawings of Glasgow Central Station toilets.

Filthy, filthy job.

The Natural Way
12:06 / 02.04.02
Everyone "won", dinthey? Yeah, so this is, as you say, the "Archon Lense". Outer Church as dominant perspective. I think Grant's just playing out the nigredic, integration-w/-otherness thing here and in the X Men. The Filth'll really allow us to get our hands dirty, however.

I expect toilet bowls will be a major motif/theme. Poo!

Got the hands up on my desktop. People look worried.

Heh. Me too. Ten minutes of Photoshop gave me the palm and horns across the top, fist and finger across the bottom, with the horizontal orange strip with "The Filth" in tiny letters. And yeah, the folks in the office are giving me quizzical glances.

Runce: the series will be in full color.

I love the strong "branding" elements in what we've seen so far. Taking the evil-corporate-logo ideas of MARVEL BOY's Hexus and co-opting them. Niiiiiice.

Unlike THE INVISIBLES, which took a while to find a strong visual indentity (the introduction of Barbelith in the third issue? the rotating cast of artists didn't help either...), THE FILTH looks like a sigil from the very start.

Say what you will about Chris Weston as an "artist," he's one hell of a designer.

yawn - thing's buddy
14:34 / 02.04.02
I'm not going to get too hot and bothered about The FIlth being in colour, but I'd really prefer it to be in black and white.

Y'know, just like reality.

The Natural Way

So, d'ja think the protagonist's some sorta dustman?

yawn - thing's buddy
20:29 / 15.04.02
that'd be grate.

or a toilet cleaner maybe.

though dustman seems more 'heroic', somehow.
