No, my left ear.

Gallery openings, Haus.

Haus about we all give each other a big lovely huggle?

I guessed. I was intentionally misunderstanding for comic effect. For funnies. And later, post-funnies huggles.

For some reason Haus (or rather, the Haus suit) has always reminded me of Momus...the classical allusions, polylinguism, the Bataille affectations, the ambisexuality, the witty put-downs....I'm not sure if that is a compliment or what....

Let us start a Momus thread somewhere else...

momus is yet another glasgow (well paisley actually) boy from the same era as Grant Morrison, Bobbie Gillespie, Mary Chain Reid Brothers etc.

A bumper crop I think.

Taking it back to THE FILTH, I remember Grant saying Weston was not attatched to it anymore sometime in his website. He did 2 or 3 issues and that was it.

There should have been more plot info and some image to go with that press release.

Some more details from the man hinself have been revealed at Newsarama:

quote:“Basically, we're not announcing any details about The Filth until issue one hits the stands,” responded Morrison. “As for what it's about - it's just me doing the kind of mad comics I like to read. It should speak for itself and I’d prefer it that way. All I can say is that it's taken two years of hard, dirty research but I’ve written 12 of the thirteen issues and I’m more excited about this than about anything else I’ve done for a long time. It's set here and now, in the present day but I don't think people will know quite what to expect from one issue to the next. Fans who've only ever seen Chris Weston draw biplanes and World War 2 tanks should prepare themselves for the kind of dark, kitchen sink surrealism he does better than anyone else. I like to think this will be Chris' breakthrough project and elevate him to the pantheon of top stylists where he belongs.

And the following also sounds quite promising:

quote: The writer also told us about a new web venture that launches this weekend that will serve as a preview site for his upcoming creator-owned work, and that teaser images from The Filth would likely premiere there soon.

What's with this 'Momus' character he's always going on about though? Had a look at his CDs in the shop and they all looked a bit wanky..

I've never heard Grant praise Momus, but that's terribly cool. Momus is wanky is all the good senses of the word. I quote, from the song "Coming in a Girl's Mouth":

"or, is there in this thrilling ritual something Messianic, some sort of baptism by sperm? Like my cock is John the Baptist saying 'one day someone greater than me shall cum,' or some Moses who leads an entire nation across her tongue..."

the fact that he writes these lyrics into mega-catchy alt-pop songs is unforgiveable and therefore irresistable.

Teaser images from The Filth:

I thought this was pretty good news too, in a not-beating-things-into-the-ground sorta way...

quote:“So...not much else to say about it at the moment, other than to point out that, in spite of what the Vertigo promo may say, The Filth is not 'psychedelic' in any way, it doesn't feature much in the way of espionage, and there are no extra dimensions, occultists or drug trips involved at any time throughout. The prosthetically-enhanced dolphins, however, are genuine.”

I liked Grant revealling less about it and the Weston pics, although they looked a little bit rushed. Or maybe that's the book's looks.

Has anyone noticed the similarities between Botecelli and Chris Weston?

Their art, I mean.

Don't know if I've mentioned it before.

It's got that Red Meat look to it. I'm interested to see if the whole book's going to be in that style, or if these are just promo designs...

What, you mean it takes 20 questions to work out what he's drawn?

Y'know, if this is coming out in the spring, they're cutting it close. It's not in the new Previews, and that's stuff for April. Did I miss it somewhere, or has there been a definite release date for it?

Right, on the basis of all this fun stuff, I can safely say I'm pooing myself w/ excitement over this book. And, dare I say it, I think I might be on the verge of becoming a Weston fan...

Still, he should stay away from fashion. He's not good w/ fashion.

So the latest Previews lists all these new things coming out from Vertigo, and finally the Filth has been mentioned. No release date, but at least it's in print now. They claim no info will be released until #1 "hits the streets".

It's a'coming.

gotta tell you, there's nobody whose art makes me retch more than chris weston. well, that's a lie. how about: chris weston makes me retch as much as any comic artist ever could.

that's better.

i was thinking of something along the lines of "i'd rather buy 32 individual pages smeared with dogshit than a comic drawn by chris weston", but that's going a bit far, isn't it?

still, he does draw very ugly things. very ugly static things. with hideous sneery faces.

You mean wobbly, sillyputty faces, surely?

I don't know, I'm not Weston's biggest fan either (fashion, etc.), but I kinda like what I've seen of his Filth stuff. I get the feeling his distorted naturalism-gone-wrong is totally in tune with what Grant's trying to do with the book.
